Downgrade Dslr to micro 4/3?

I find that M4/3 cameras are much easier to live with than DSLR's. They are small and light when out and about especially with family. Other people don't mind you taking shots of them, where they do mind (in my case anyway) is when you use a DSLR. Everything for them is smaller and usually cheaper and IQ can be as good as DSLR's if you know what you are doing.

I enjoy using mine far more than the DSLR which I have now sold. If you go for a camera that is just being replaced like a G3 or Pen then you will get a great camera at a great price. Get lenses used from this forum and the cost will not be too great.

One thing I am leaning towards is using just one or two prime lenses on the GX1 to keep weight down and compactness and IQ up. The X100 is just that in a nutshell!

I ended up with an X100 for the same reason. And while it is smaller and lighter than my small DSLR and small prime it turns out that in use it really has made no difference.

- It still doesn't fit in any of my pockets so has to go in a bag if I am carrying it
- It weighs 450g which is only 150g lighter than my DSLR and lens and when carrying in the hand it doesn't make any difference. In fact the DSLR was probably easier to carry due to the shape as could rest fingers around the grip.

So it basically didn't gain me any of the things people search for when downsizing. However, it is a joy to use, the IQ is great, the viewfinder is superb, the lens focal length just seems right etc,. and I wouldn't swap it for a DSLR now.

A RX100 with a built in EVF would be a perfect for me. I wonder if we will see one now that the rx100 has proved so popular?

Just on the cusp of doing this now, stuck between the X10 or G3. Can't work out in my head if I will miss the view finder so learning towards G3.

I'd say g3.

Sounds like the x10 fills the gap between a compact point n shoot and a micro 4/3. Not a great market.

The G5 is much better ergonomically than the G3. Yes, it is more expensive but....

The more money you have, the better the camera you can buy yourself. Thats always the case.

Still having problems deciding what you want? Maybe go into a store and hold the G3, see if it's for you. It's not massive, but I wouldn't say it's small either. When I tried it out, I didn't find the EVF to be particularly great, had a weird colour tinge to it which I didn't like, don't know if it was some setting that caused this though.

It's definitely no where near as small and thin as the E-PL3, which I still think is the best bang for buck at the moment for double zoom kit at Jessops for £369. Granted the new sensor E-PL5 has been announced, but that will be pretty expensive I suspect. I believe more users prefer the JPEG straight out of camera from the Oly's as opposed to other brands, so this might sway your decision if you want to just shoot in JPEG. Also, the Oly bodies have built in IS. Having said that though, the G3 is meant to be the better camera in terms of IQ, is 16MP compared to 12MP, has touch screen and full swing out/swivel screen and an EVF.
