none used properly - maybe we should turn it into a thanks button , which would make a nonsense of the weaponising .
Yes they are. If you write a comment on my post that I like, I like it. If you post an image I like, I like it. If you write some crit that I like, I like it etc. The clues in the word 'like' :p

I used to be on a funny weather page on FB, but I think I posted something they didn't like so they ban me from commenting so I left lol. What the name of yours?

:D It'll come under the name of The Cloud Master. Enter at your own peril (although it's Kent-based I'll let anyone in).

no i meant theres no problem used properly (sorry my eeenglish) - I was agreeing with you

the only problem comes when someone writes xyz member is a f*****g moron and a whole bunch of members rush to like that (but as said its a tiny minority and can be dealt with in other ways - like banning the person who feels it appropriate to say that in the first place)

Ahh, sorry

Have you ever considered the option where all these members liking said post do actually click like because they agree xyz could well be a f**** moron??

You know, just sayin like, surely if it's a truthful comment it can't be bullying by buttons? :D

All this talk of people going back into locked threads and clicking like buttons. There is another reason. Most of the time I dont realise a thread is locked until I get to the bottom of it and see the "you have insufficient priviliges to reply here".
During my reading of those such threads I may well click like on a comment or two but I havent deliberately gone in there to do it.

I enter most threads by going into the alerts area and jumping into a thread from there and its not obvious then that one is locked.

Just sayin' like.

Two types of men; w####rs and liars. Ain't that the truth?
I am both. Pretty good at them as well if I say so myself.

Even if it is true, is it a nice thing to say though ?

Describing any member as a f*****g moron is contrary to the forum rules , however much some of us might think one person or another deserves the description. My point is that while the person who says it probably needs to feel the wrath of mod those hitting like are equally culpable.

The other thing is that member x describing member y as a f*****g moron generally gets the thread closed , but the people hitting like are using the loophole that likes continue after closure to repeat the insult.

I'm not so much talking about my case , I know fine well why the three people liking the oaf comment were doing so, and I don't really care that much what they think - but you see some cases where theres 10-15 people htting like on a comment which should never have been made in the first place, which is not what the button was intended to be for.

The other thing is that personally if someones got an issue I'd rather they just had it out by post or probably prefferably pm (for reasons of mod sanity)- making sly digs and liking snide comments doesnt do anything to clear the air. Theres a few people on here who I had an awful relationship with but with whom after clearing the air the relationship is much better and in some cases would now count as forum friends.

TLDR - I disagree with the point , bullying is often composed of the truth - fat kids get bullied for being fat (ditto black, gay, poor, whatever) just because something is true doesnt mean that its not hurtful or that its acceptable to point out or like someone else pointing out

I fell asleep.
Is it over?

I think we all do that keith - I know I do , but its a different thing from continually clicking like on posts that are critical of a particular member - I've gathered a small posse who do that on posts critical of me , but as i said above I know who they are and why they do it, and as their opinion of my character matters less to me than that of an ameoba I can't get too excited.

However certain other members have garnered far larger wolfpacks of 'dislikers' - particularly in the recent tranche of political discussion , but also in certain crit forum debates - and that isn't on IMO.

clicking like on a post that is critical of another member is not a direct comment though and a bit more open. I agree that it is a little off sometimes for people to gang up but that's typical of anonymous internetary

Another way to look at it, Is it different to make sly comments, digs and generally slag off people, maybe on social media like twitter, facebook, or privately, against clicking like on a post that might be disappeared when its RTMd ? at least on here it is cards on the table, if it was done offsite then that would be, IMHO, more underhand and nasty. Small minded people do that sort of thing.

IMO , pretty much every body does it privately to some extent - members letting off steam about someone who's annoying them on TP in a closed facebook conversation isn't much different to you guys having a good old rant in the admin only staffroom board about which ever member is p***ing you off at the time. Its generally preferable to doing it in public in my view. End of the day what the eye doesnt see the heart doesnt grieve

As someone who's received a lot of abuse off site including via social media and indeed email , I agree about people who take the actual bad feeling off site though. - you've got to be pretty sad to think that threats and abuse are an appropriate response to someone criticising your picture, or your political view point. (the main lesson I take from that is don't display your email address in open conversation on any forum)

Edit: for clarity I'm not suggesting that the people involved with the liking abusive comments have taken it off site btw , they havent. Most recently it was some frustrated wedding wannabe who was "going to kick my f*****g head in for saying s*** like that about my photos"

I can't decide if I'm learning a lot about human nature in relation to the internet, or this is just the most f***ed up thread I've ever read.

I'm laughing too much to care to be honest.

...the more I learn of Human Nature, the more glad I am I'm a Wookie (apparently)...

some people don't do it in closed facebook groups though Pete, they lay it all out for everyone to read.

yeah thats out of order too ( My FB is locked down to freinds only so anything I say on there is at least semi private - at least until FB b****r up the privacy settings yet again, I forgot that some peoples pages are readable by everyone)

Right ok I'm on my mobile so can't separate or highlight sections, my point is you do just as much as others, you use word like pathetic morons and some such so surely that's a bit pot kettle?

Very good points...could we have a w****r and a liar button please :)

Right, I think the points have been made and discussed but we can see this going into personal territory so mind the doors folks
