I think it's sad if people just disregard types of photos due to their genre rather than because of what's in the photo or the way it's presented.
I can understand people being more interested in particular areas, but I have yet to find an area of photography that I havent seen some amazing pieces of work in.
100% Agree.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as clearly illustrated in this post:
Why do you assume "humanity" is missing from shots involving aircraft or race machinery? People designed and built then and used them - there's plenty of humanity in there if you know where to look (for example my latest set posted on here don't contain any things racing on tarmac - go take a look).
Also, the machinery itself can evoke an emotional response - just because you aren't someone who feels like that doesn't mean to say it doesn't happen for others....
Indeed.
I think it's just a case of preferences being undermined for amusement here really.
Someone said that self portraits are vain. I used to think this when I was younger too. To put it bluntly, if you had a shoot and I turned up as your model, it'd be 'What the hell is this?'
But now I have many self portraits, I'm over weight, I have awful skin and I'm losing my hair.
There are many reason why I take a portrait of myself sometimes but vanity couldn't be further from the truth.
This doesn't mean to say that vanity isn't the motivation for some, but to say all self portraits are created as a result of vanity? How could every self portrait that ever was or is, be the result of a single state of mind or motivation?
Developing your own style and defining your own taste is a healthy practise after all, thank the skies we all have different and opposing preferences.
Imagine what it would be like if we all liked precisely the same things...........
....I think someone spiked my coffee....
