Does anyone recognise this lorry/logo description? (FTS)

Hi,

A long shot, but worth a try: my friend's car was written off this week in a "fail to stop" when a lorry tried to overtake her on a narrow road near Spalding in Lincolnshire and realised too late that s/he was going too fast to do so successfully.

As the lorry had come up behind them out of nowhere, neither my friend nor her passengers saw the lorry before the accident, but one of them noticed the following afterwards:

  • The cab was gun metal grey.

  • It was an articulated lorry with hard sides - but was not transporting a container.

  • The sides of the lorry were white - they don't remember any writing on it.

  • The logo on its side was royal blue - imagine an S rotated 90 degrees anti-clockwise, then stretch it. Possibly the RHS tail of the logo was thinner than the LHS.

  • There was nothing on the back doors.

  • They did not see a number plate.
If anyone has any idea of which company logo and lorry this might describe we would be really grateful to know.

Many thanks, :)

Liz

Your best bet is to go to your local goods vehicle testing station. If it's from your area the inspectors may be able to help.

Andy

:plusone: Good luck.

Sorry but I'm confused, an articulated lorry tried to overtake on a narrow road? Are you sure it was articulated?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies and suggestions - that will give us somewhere to start.

Sorry but I'm confused, an articulated lorry tried to overtake on a narrow road? Are you sure it was articulated?

Yes that bit puzzled me too - I asked if she was sure that it was articulated and not a very big truck. It did overtake and they reckon it must have damage on both sides as it bounced off a wall, or something, the other side of the road.

It was on the B1180 heading towards Pinchbeck. Having looked at a picture of the road I am not sure how big the lorry could have been, but the description definitely has the cab and the rest of it different colours. I don't know that area at all.

Thanks,

Liz :)

Being a truck driver, I can only say good luck, I can pull as many as 6 different 'customers' trailers a day. It's a long shot that you are asking, but not impossible. Try google images of truck company logo's

As the lorry had come up behind them out of nowhere

Liz, I sincerely hope your friend manages to track down this truck as it should take a very dangerous driver off the road.

The above statement puzzles me, however, as I don't see how a large truck can do that. They are speed limited and should have been seen in your friends mirrors at some point - unless your friend has a problem with using mirrors, of course :)

Hi,

Thanks for your comments, and encouragement.

Steve, that made me smile about the mirrors - she says that she feels it must have been going VERY fast as she had not noticed it approaching at all ;) and suddenly she saw it behind her *tailgating*. She aparently had just said to her passengers "OMG a lorry's going to ram us" when it pulled out but it was too close not to miss them.

I have spent a few hours googling but to no avail. I think the next move will be to go to the village and see if it drives through at a similar time this week - another long shot - Phil's comment suggests that we might never find it.

He could so easily have caused a lot worse than the damage he did.

Thanks,

Liz :)

I'm more confused by the description of the truck,

"It was an articulated lorry with hard sides - but was not transporting a container."

What exactly does that mean?

I'm thinking a type of single vehicle transporter or trailer.

Hi,

Sorry! When I first heard about the accident I assumed that because the cab and 'back bit' were different colours that it was a container on the back and that it was coming from a ferry port or something. Probably because I have lived in Zambia too long and got used to 'hard sided' large vehicles generally being container transporters.

My friend and one of the passengers, who have been able to describe the vehicle, both say that it had a cab that was detachable from the back - but that the back did not have soft sides (tarpaulin?). (Yes, not a curtain sider!)

Does that make sense? Probably not!

PS Googling infinity logos - looks promising!

Sounds more like a stolen truck to me., I cant imagine even the worst of drivers overtaking on a narrow road "bouncing off a wall" and hitting car. The trailer must have had pretty substantial damage. How would a driver explain this to his empolyer?

So its basicaly just a normal hard sided trailer presumably.

Container is the generic term used to describe a box which can be removed from either a 'flat bed' or 'skeletal' trailer. Used extensively to transport goods on road, rail and sea which are generally either imported or exported already packed.

Articulated lorry 'with hard sides' I would presume mean a tractor unit with a removable trailer which although not carrying a container has rigid sides. That could be anything from a bulk tipper to a 'hi-cube' step frame trailer, and various alternatives in between. Not curtainsided either.

The point is while the description is fairly vague a crime has been committed by the vehicle driver ie: failing to stop.

In Lincolshire it would have probably been transporting foodstuffs of some sort.

The MOT centre would be a good place to start as they are government appointed and there are not that many of them compared to car centres.

Probably not going to help much but have you / friend googled "Haulier logos" / "Haulage logos" - on google images.

I am not doubting for one minute - but your friend must have been going incredibly slowly - they are generally limited to 56mph (I think) and speed limit on a single carriageway is 40mph (though many do more than this to help improve the flow of traffic.) If you've ever sat behind one in the outside lane of a D/c they take forever to get past!

Good luck though.

generally hard side artics are things like chilled trailer units?

This isn't going to help much, but was she in a small blue car that ended up in a field having taken out an electric telegraph pole? on Friday night/Saturday morning, if so I wondered how that had happened when I drove past it about 8.30 Saturday morning. (think it was Saturday anyway, been a long working weekend) I travel that road every morning to work, and am amazed there are not more accidents, it is very narrow in places, To be honest, I think you will be very lucky to find this vehicle, hundreds of trucks travel along that road daily, and many are foreign, I will however keep an eye out and report anything I find if it is of any use.

Simon.

the only tractor units i can think of that are grey also have a fair bit of red on them as well ,,,but garn transport have a depot in spalding ( pinchbeck ?? )

theres quite a bit of chilled work there as well , fowler welch have a depot at pinchbeck and theres no reason why garns shouldnt pull their fridge boxes ,although they would be marked up ,,,a lot of fridges are just plain white though
