Do you tip your hairdresser/barber?

We always leave tea/coffee biscuits for our builder...Even go specifically to ASDA to get instant coffee and value biscuits....

We don't give them biscuits but do give them decent tea/coffee. Then charge them a tenner for karzi use!

If they are on offer in Poundland :)

PS. Yes I am, don't you know that the Dutch are a product of Yorkshire and Scotland :p

Years of selective (in?)breeding has shortened your arms... :P (Mum's father was from Yorkshire and some of Dad's ancestors were Scots.)

Plus, these days they barely actually 'do' anything.
Attach the bin (which is right there at the edge of the road waiting for them) to the back of the truck, and then un-attach it again.
Bit of a lottery as to whether we get the right bin back too.
Tip for them? Yeah....look both ways before you cross the road mate. :D

Admittedly since my wife gave them a two tins of sweets at Christmas they always put out bins back nicely up the side of the house and will also take anything extra I leave out.
I was even loading stuff into my boot for a dump run and two of the lads ran over grabbed the bags / boxes and chucked it on the truck.

So on that note I might give them 3 tins of sweets next year and see what 'upgrades' I get....

Careful! Don't discourage builders from using your toilet. They'll "go" anywhere.

Reminds me of something I heard on the radio this week. There was a feature about how cathartic resigning from crap jobs can be and one chap's first job was on a building site. He was straight out of school and the youngest on site so was given the worst jobs, including going around blow-torching the "mess" where the builders had defecated inside the wall cavities.

Anyway, one day he'd had enough and let rip at the boss, telling him where he could stick his job and he felt quite satisfied that the boss actually looked quite worried throughout his rant. Later he found out it was because the boss thought he was going to shake his hand.

I'm a self employed mobile car valeter. I appreciate tips but don't expect them. What does annoy me is when I spend over 5 hours on the customers car and they don't offer me a cuppa.

I just had this vision that they bring you out a cuppa and place it on the roof of the car :P Now surely that would really annoy you :)

IIRC I've had that happen lol. I often see scratches on roofs where people have put something on them. You'd be amazed at how people treat they're cars.

I'm guilty :) Especially when I smoked and stopped smoking in the car...Stop at the motorway services for a fag and a coffee, place the coffee on the roof or bonnet of the car....And drive off leaving it there :)

LOL Or about two months ago, we stayed at a hotel with work but were in the pup so long that no restaurants were open.....Hotel menu was rubbish, but Vlad Kebab van was still open, hotel would allow us to eat it in their lobby....So five of us ate it from my bonnet...

It is just a car :) besides it keeps service providers like yourself busy

TIGHT!! My wife used to do home care and has had it where she's been told she can make herself a cuppa while making one for the client but the client has told her to use the value coffee but the client had the nice coffee. I very rarely get offered a biscuit, which is good because I'm on a diet.

LOL But many people in the UK like instant don't they? The 'tea club' at work gets that rubbish...

I smoke in my car...though miraculously no seat burns.....and I put coffee cups on the roof too....but have yet to drive away with still up there

Smoking ruins cars but it can be sorted
So spoils rather than ruins....if it can be righted ;)

My cars have always been a to b tools.
Smoke in my house, however, and I'll take your face off :D

It's people who treat other people's cars badly that pee me off, like the "members" at the place my wife used to manage who would take their sports bags out of their car and slide it onto the roof of the car next to theirs.

We don't tip our car washers but they do a free wash after 6 paid for ones and we always pay them for that as well.

If you mean the ones you drive into any they all flock around your car missing bits, then no you should tip them and start using a proper valeter ;)

If I knew a good local one, I might try it but I'll bet they're a LOT more expensive! (And the chaps we use miss less than we do.)

@viv1969 and @dejongj I know your sort all to well, and worse lol
In your line of business you should love us. I love my nice cars, but ultimately it's just a car. No need to treat it with gloves especially with lanes around me as the bushes will scratch it much more than anything else.

I do. I'm messing. However, well looked after cars make my job a lot easier lol

I am because you get what you pay for. Give him a try. If you like forward me his website first and I'll take a look for you :)

PS That's another annoying thing 'You're prices are to high to valet my very expensive car'!! lol

Used to tip the hair dresser, but then starting having the number 3 all over (£9 for literally 5min with some clippers) and service just went down the pan. Now I just use clippers myself.

Tipping is a funny thing. We moved house 25 years ago and were not aware that a big tip was expected for the removers - we'd already provided food & drink + refreshments - and the guys were seriously grumpy afterward to their boss who was a friend. [shrug].

No 2 all all over, neck shave, ( the only time we consider letting women anywhere near our neck with a cut throat razor ;) ) eyebrows, ears etc and a boob in the ear if I'm lucky :D all for £7.50

Sounds fair enough to me
