Yes
All this happened at one wedding...
1. Arriving groom says 'who are you, no professional photographer has been booked at all...'
2. huge, white and red van parks and driver scarpers, in the only position which effectively ruins all the bride arrivals shots
3. Bride and father arrive 14 mins late which although sounds funny, the vicar doesn't think so
4. mikes on church p.a. are intermittent, causing hilarity among guests, but not with a] bride and groom, b] brides father c] said vicar
5. vicar refuses to allow photographer to do an agreed 'posed' reg. signing shot depite video guy already filming same covertly
6. Vicar walks down aisle immediately in front of B & G, thus totally preventing that shot
7. Village yobs drop beer bottles at precise position brides dress will rest on..there is no alternative location for this pic. Photographer brushes broken glass away as best can do
8. Members of main party state that they do not want to be photographed at church setting, something which was specifically requested by said bride.
9. Several spots of blood on sleeve of brides [white] dress are noticed. This has come from the fingers of said photographer [which were cut on glass: see#7]
10. Brides father shouts to all guests assembled for full group: 'If this photographer takes much longer, everyone will be issued with folding beds'
11. Sudden torrential cloudburst causes all said guests to depart for reception [Marquee located at the very bottom of very muddy field]
12. Bride casually remarks 'they will all be in colour won't they...' This just slightly conflicts with her written instructions for 'monochrome coverage only please '

If only I had made it up...:bang:

oh boy!!! You poor thing...I can feel your upset, I would have been so upset and probably in tears!! Were the photos any good?

Hi and welcome

Quite a day then?

LOL. He's not kidding either. ;)

A good reason for watertight contracts with everything in writing there I think.

definatly good reason for not doing weddings

oh hello and welcome

Hi
Many thanks, I have been thinking of getting back into weddings after a five year break.
Many thanks for bringing me back to my senses
John

A good reason for watertight contracts with everything in writing there I think.

Point is :

In the end it makes little difference to the customers how good your contract is. The vast majority of people involved in weddings [including vicars] couldn't give a monkey's toss about your contract anyway.....

Situations Vacant
Weddie pics person required
We guarantee the harder you work
the less you will be appreciated

The contract gives you a legal fall back position though, if the couple said they wanted a signing the register shot and the vicar stopped you taking it you can have that in a clause in the contract so they cant hold you personably responsible for not getting the shots asked.

Very sorry to read of this... did you get any of your fee up front?

I have been asked to do several weddings, one was called off with 2 weeks to go before the big day, and and the others I have so far either been unable to attend myself, or have declined due to my inexperience, but now, I am going to start advertising and offering my services as a wedding tog.

I already have a (fairly) watertight contract that works both ways i.e. protects me and the B&G, and will only do the wedding if I receive 50% of my fees upfront. Though stressful and problematic for the poor tog concerned, these threads are a prime example for illustrating to the bride and groom the potential pitfalls of what can happen if things go wrong - the results of which are not good for anyone... i.e. the photographer, nor the bride and groom. I try to use this type of situation as a 'positive' - and look for 100% buy-in from the B&G on their requirements. I explain it is a two way deal... and has to be that way.

I appreciate that wedding photography is a stressful business to be working in, and as such I will not be charging budget rates, but for the price I will consequently charge, I will provide a first class service, managing all client expectations and covering all requirements - both mine and theirs. Clients need to know that it's not just turning up on the day and clicking away with an expensive looking camera that produces a set of photographs that can be treasured for a lifetime. We all know there's far more to it than that.

All of this is explained to the B&G in detail before they decide if they wish to use my services or not and I try to conclude with a win-win scenario. Of course, it's nice... but I am not dependent on the revenue generated from my wedding photography, and so if the B&G conclude that I am either too expensive, too inexperienced, or that they are unable to commit to my T's & C's, then so be it, I won't be losing any sleep over it.

My first adverts go in this week... wish me luck!! :)

Cheers John, I wish you all the best, but reckon you're totally :cuckoo:

And 100% of fees for ivortripod were paid a month up front :rules:
