Dizzy - My 52!! 52.26 Night

Hello again. I'm just doing a mega catch up :D

Relationships - I love the idea behind this - I was teenage sitting in Paris for a couple of nights and they spent such a lot of time on-line talking to their friends. I agree with Spartacus though, you could have pushed it a bit more. But then I've got no room to complain - my Poverty shot didn't push me at all - I just took what I could get. Really good interpretation of the theme though so :clap::clap: for that ;)

Poverty - Love this one - can't really say more than that. And it sounds like it was good for your soul too.:clap::clap:

Thanks for the kind words and the constructive criticism!

52.13 Up. Probably because it's such a vague theme I had so many ideas for this week it was ridiculous. Unfortunately, time was not on my side. We're going away to San Francisco with the rug rats and I was extremely busy at work making sure everything was sorted before I finished as well as running around with last minute holiday related jobs. I didn't think I was going to be able to get anything sorted for this week, which would have been ludicrous considering! Anyway, I was driving back from Nellis AFB to home as the sun was setting over the valley and I dived off the freeway and had a frantic 20minutes trying to find a decent vantage point of the stratosphere before the light was gone. I found somewhere that seemed to work and had the added bonus of the moon in the background and all three of the rides in action on the top of the stratosphere. It may not have been top of my list of ideas, it's not mono (which made me feel a little ill), but I'm pleased. So, 52.13 Up - Up to the Stratosphere!

I love this image - straight out of a tourist operator's dream! It's stylish, clean and beautifully composed. And nobody could deny the 'Up-ness' of it.:clap: Jean

Agree totally, well done!!

Smashing light, crisp and on theme

Lovely colours, great composition and having the moon in shot just adds that bit of extra interest. Nice work

Wow, Dizzy, what a fantastic picture :clap::clap:

You've made what looked like a hard concrete building to me when I was there into a golden structure, and what a bonus getting the moon in to

A perfect example of the golden hour, and definitely UP. I felt sick looking up at the top and thinking about the rides

Lovely shot, well composed good subject, great stuff.

Excellent work David. The tower is up and pointing to the moon... so many up's, and I think probably the colour is an up here too....

Thanks for the colour warning - I'm beinning to worry about you.

Jean

Why thank you! Believe it or not, it did look very nice in mono but I just couldn't bring myself to lose that light!

Agree totally, well done!!

Very kind, Angela

Great shot, fabulously lit too (the joys of the golden hour). I love the inclusion of the moon too

Cheers, Simon! There've been loads of occasions here where the moon has been up during the day and I've never found a way to work it in. It was just sitting there taunting me as I was charging around in the traffic trying to get a location to shoot from before the light went. Much swearing involved...

Smashing light, crisp and on theme

Cheers, the 17-40 is back to being the favourite again!

Thank you!

Thanks for the very kind words! I know what you mean about the rides. We were in the viewing gallery up the tower one night when the rollercoaster bit just suddenly shot over the top right in front of me. I nearly had a little accident and I wasn't even on the thing!!!

:agree: nuff said.....

Thanks, Mark!

Can't argue with the others TBH very nicely done

Starting to get a little overwhelmed now, thanks!

Lovely shot, well composed good subject, great stuff.

Cheers, I just hope I can find something in San Francisco for next week now, it's going to be hard to fail after all the kind words this week!

Excellent work David. The tower is up and pointing to the moon... so many up's, and I think probably the colour is an up here too....

And so are the corners of my mouth! Thank you all again, it's great motivation!

That's another great shot from you...

You seem to on a run lately with some fantastic shots...:p

Brilliant always a pleasure to see your work Sir

Thanks, Marcus. Very kind of you indeed.

52.14 - Letter. Well after the freedom of last week this was a definite OMG moment (to use the kids vernacula). I could see lots of scope for some interesting interpretation, unfortunately the family holiday to San Francisco meant that sort of time was not available. All I had to do was keep my eyes open for an interesting letter. There were surprisingly quite a lot of options, but my favourite was from the moorings of the SS Jeremiah O'Brien down on Fishermans Wharf. Here we have 52.14 Letter - 'S' is for Ship!

Dizzy, I've only just read your whole thread, I can't believe I didn't think of doing a 52 instead of a 365!!

3 of your photos really stand out for me, Surprise, Wealth and Poverty. Excellent work!!

Yours is the first 52 I've looked at and I think I picked a good un'!!

Another nice shot from you, I love the different tones in this shot...

and the ropes look very good...

only niggle I don't like the fence creeping in to the shot...

but still a great effort...

Very kind of you to say and thanks for taking the time to catch up on all of it! I think those are 3 of my favourites too.

Thanks, Marcus. I didn't actually notice the fence until I was uploading it :bonk:

I'm not sure if I could have cut that out and still got the shot. I wanted to keep as much detail as possible in the ropes so a shallow DoF wasn't really an option. In the immortal words of Captain Darling, b****r.

I like that one David. An interesting interpretation and a well taken shot. I hadn't noticed the fence.

Cheers, john

Well spotted, dizzy. And there is at least one other 'S' in your photo - the rope Snaking over the quayside. Was there a letter on the other side of the capstan?

The shot works for me - and the railings are just part and parcel of what you'd expect to see in this kind of environment.:clap:

Glad to see you've receoverd from your recent attack of colourisation! :D

Jean

Thanks, jean! There wasn't anything on the other side if memory serves me. I'm getting far happier with some of the colour shots so I'll just keep you on the edge of your seats all week wondering which it's going to be!!

Thanks Toothie, it's nice to be back under the black & White blanket again!!

52.15 Duo. These are the wheels that power the famous San Francisco Cable Cars. This particular 'Duo' are on the Hyde Powell route. Located inside the Cable Car Museum at the top of the Hyde route in the City. I was annoyed that I'd not got the 17-40 with me so I could try and find a way of getting all of the left hand wheel in but very pleased to get this shot with over 1 sec exposure hand held! So here we have 52.15, wheels keep on turning!

Love the blur of these wheels, makes the shot.

1sec hand held? I could not get anywhere near that and keep the rest of he pic sharp, very well done.

Very well done indeed, 1 second hand held phew!!!... Love the image and the wheel blur is superb. A good Duo

Wow that's a great image for the time hand held...another superb shot this week...:clap::clap:

You must have had the camera resting on something to get a handheld shot that good at 1 sec.

It's great interpretation I like the contrast of the movement in the wheels with the stationary machinery around it.... looks good in black & white too.

I'm back too now David :D

Letter, glad to see you are back to your old (b&w) self  I love the gritty feel of this picture, great composition and great detail too. Just shows what's around us if we open our eyes :clap:

Duo, love the blur on the wheels (and it works well in b&w), fits the theme nicely

Hey Dizzy, well done on the duo shot, absolutely superb. I love the sense of movement in the wheels in contrast to the techno environment around it.The black and white works and the clarity is excellent.

WAy too many to catch up on but...here goes :

Relationships: Splendid interpretation and very good shot!

Poverty: Odd how we (or I at least) associated poverty with cold wet dismal weather and here we have an example in the baking sunshine - it looks odd but works so well the B&W is tip top - great capture

Up: Clear, crisp, nice lines and colour - and spot on the theme!

Letter: again great B&W and composition on this one - well seen and taken!

Duo: Phew - caught up - the power and speed you've caught there is great and again I love your B&W treatment of images looks good and the image fits nicely into the theme :)

Now I must keep up :D

Letter - I like the shot and the frayed rope lead in line works well, I think a closer crop to remove the fence though would have been made this even better.

Duo - 1sec Hand Held  impressive, but I feel your pain about the composition - never good when you want a lens you don't have with you

Thanks all for the very kind messages. I'm having a bit of a mental week and have just finished catching up on everyone elses shots (if I missed anyone I am very sorry indeed). There were some great ones this week and it amazes me that every week the bar seems to be raised higher and higher. I'll respond properly to everyone above at the earliest opportunity.

52.16 Longing. Another chaotic week and no inspiration! That was until I was in the supermarket getting some toiletries and I saw a young couple, with nervous excitement buying a home pregnancy test. I spent the next few minutes wandering round the store trying to work out a way of displaying the longing a couple feels when they've been trying to conceive for a long time. The excitement that builds when they think, this might be the month, and the anguish when the test is negative. The moments that really say to me, longing. I had an idea how to pull it off and ran back to buy a kit ($4 well spent I hope) and then sweet talked my better half to pose with me. It took a lot of fiddling around trying to find a way to get the shot composed with the tripod balanced in the bath and keep Jo's good humour intact, but I think it is the image I had in my head! So, here we have 52.16 Longing - This time?
