Dizzy - My 52!! 52.26 Night

For someone who thought he had no inspiration, this ain't half bad. :D

You've captured the theme exquisitely, imo, Dizzy. It must be one of the most intense longings to have if hope is followed by disappointment month after month.

Well done on lots of levels - the idea, the execution, dof, and, dare I say I like the b&w!!!! The only small (and I DO mean small) niggle is the slightly distracting (for me) mirror through the archway. I realise you probably couldn't avoid it, and since I've never tried balancing a tripod in the bath I can't talk, can I. :D

Well done David, that's superb. Wonderful DOF, you did well getting the Coop from your OH for that long... I wouldn't get the time of day ...

Well you have come up trumps again this week...

That's a great intepretation from you (and the lady assistant) you just get better and better each week...

The focusing is spot on...

and yes it's a classic B&W shot from you...:woot:

I had both of my boys on fertility treatment, and had four and a half years of this shot...

This is an absolutely inspired idea, and well done to your other half for posing for it with you.

The DoF and the mono both add to the feel of the picture, and the whole thing feels as though it belongs in a soap (not a bathroom pun, and meant as a compliment)

well done.

Duo - great shot, don't know how I missed it

Longing - I think this shot is this weeks winner. It oozes emotion

Jon

Outstanding - easily the best shot this week!

The focus is spot on and B&W treatment works well. Great interpretation of the theme and I can imagine how difficult it was to set up. Well done you - and your OH for joining in :clap::clap::clap:

I'm stamping this one Class Swot.

Very,very well done.

Thanks, Jean! I did try to shoot from the other side which was much easier as I just had to set the tripod up in the 'closet', unfortunately, there are several windows behind where I actually shot this and they were all in the shot leaving the light all over the place and lots of blown areas! I'm not sure why, but the only doors in the houses round here are the toilet and main entrance to bedrooms so I couldn't even just shut the door to hide the mirror! :bonk:

Cheers! I got her a nice bunch of flowers the next day as a thank you! She insisted on changing her top because she 'had a mark on this one...'. I tried to explain to her about DoF and that nobody would be able to see and then saw I was on a fast track to having no model and no shot and shut my trap!! :D

Too kind, Marcus. I'm very pleased you think I'm improving though. Thank you

This is an absolutely fantastic shot David. So atmospheric, filled with emotion. Great DoF, composition and the b&w really is perfect for this. Definitely the best shot this week.:clap::clap::clap::clap:

That must have been really hard for you, but I'm sure the end result was worth it!! We know a few people that went down that path and it was incredibly testing times for them. My well done goes to you

oops, just remembered how to do the multi quote... I've not had much sleep for the last week!!!

Duo - great shot, don't know how I missed it

Cheers, Jon. It's quite bizarre as it's only last week, but I had to go back and check what I'd done for Duo!! It must be the lack of sleep.

That's very kind of you to say. I'm sure Jo will be very pleased that everyone approves. Probably, she'll be more pleased that I wont be sulking for a few days because I wasn't totally happy with my shot!!

Lovely, DoF, Focus, Composition, processing all spot on

Thanks!!

I'm stamping this one Class Swot.

Class swot?? Well there's a first! I was always the one that never did my homework or revised. Always far more interesting things to do outside!!

This is an absolutely fantastic shot David. So atmospheric, filled with emotion. Great DoF, composition and the b&w really is perfect for this. Definitely the best shot this week.:clap::clap::clap::clap:

I'm blushing now. I'd better go and get my thinking cap on for this weeks theme and make sure I don't get complacent!!

A huge thank you to everyone for keeping my morale and motivation up during a very difficult few weeks!

52.16 Longing. Another chaotic week and no inspiration! That was until I was in the supermarket getting some toiletries and I saw a young couple, with nervous excitement buying a home pregnancy test. I spent the next few minutes wandering round the store trying to work out a way of displaying the longing a couple feels when they've been trying to conceive for a long time. The excitement that builds when they think, this might be the month, and the anguish when the test is negative. The moments that really say to me, longing. I had an idea how to pull it off and ran back to buy a kit ($4 well spent I hope) and then sweet talked my better half to pose with me. It took a lot of fiddling around trying to find a way to get the shot composed with the tripod balanced in the bath and keep Jo's good humour intact, but I think it is the image I had in my head! So, here we have 52.16 Longing - This time?

One word:
BRILLIANT!
:)

52.17 Dark. As far as bad weeks go, this has been right up there. As a result the 52 had to go right on to the back burner and I was very lucky to find half an hour to capture and process this shot. I had lots of ideas for outside shots and star trails etc, but as time was a factor I went for one of my neighbour's Devil masks. They date back to the 1940's and are from Mexico City (where he is from) and are used in Easter celebrations with Angels fighting dark spirits and devils. It's the first time I've tried to shoot something like this and I'm sure that I could do better with the lighting/DoF (had to open it up as I had no tripod time), but it's in and I'm fairly pleased with it. 52.17 Dark - Hiding in the darkness

thanks!

I like this a lot, colourful but still fits the dark theme on a couple of levels.

I like the way its off to one side, leaving a little neg space, I just want to see the top of the horns, other than that, great stuff.

:agree: with Hyster, great shot, love the lighting, just clipped the top off the horns.

Thanks, there's actually quite a bit of horn clipped but that was because we only had a small amount of black background to work with an there was no way I could keep them in shot against the background!

That being the case, you have done extremely well, you should be very proud of this one.

You might have lost the great composition if you had chased those horns.

Dark is a really interesting shot. I am usually a fan of all things ugly, but this really just creeps me out! But in doing so fits the theme perfectly.

Agree with Hyster's comments in that the top of the horns would have been good, but are not worth ruining the shot over.

Tis colourful and clear, well done

:agree:

Sometimes you have to compromise and losing a bit off the top of the horns by no means ruins the shot so I think you made the right decision

Blimey...

That's a shot and a half...

I'm in two minds on this one...

I didn't like at all to start with...:shake:

but after going away and coming back to it, it seems to be a grower...:suspect:

It's not anywhere near your excellent standard, but you pulled off a nice shot in the end, so well done...

This certainly conveys the dark side and the floating in space effect gives this an eerie quality. Not my favourite of your photos so far but an excellent take on the theme.

And given what sounds like an extremely hectic week full marks for the committment to the challenge :1st:

I totally relate to 'we only had a small amount of black background ...' - that's just the sort of compromise I find myself making week after week.

Well done on this one - it fits the theme well, and I certainly wouldn't want to meet it on a dark night. The colours are excellent - moody and scary at the same time. Hey...... colours......:thinking::thinking: Again!

It sounds like the 52 was more like in the fridge than on the back burner, so another well done for getting a good shot posted.

Jean

thanks for the comments. I'm afraid freezer would be more accurate, Jean! I feel like I've let myself down a little this week. Jo's parent's and her sister finally made it out to visit us after what can only described as a dreadful 18 months with her sister recovering from a huge operation and chemo and her mother recently diagnosed with a terminal lung condition. The day they arrived her Father's brother was taken in to hospital back in Derbyshire only to find he had a very aggressive cancer. He very sadly passed away 10 days after being admitted. It was such a shock as nobody had any idea he was ill.

We went back to the UK last Sunday and I've just got back over here today, emotionally drained and very tired. I will try to get a shot this weekend to keep up, but please accept my apologies if I don't manage to get an entry submitted this week; I do feel like I've let you all down at the moment. I'll get caught up as soon as possible.

David there is no need to apologise: "Life gets in the way of hobby" is a headline we all have to now and then! And please accept my condolences for your loss - sounds like the family have had a very rough time :(

Its sounds almost inappropriate to comment on your dark now but its a great shot and meets the theme in at least two ways!

Take a break, gather strength and be back soon!

John has summed it up perfectly for me. I'm sorry and moved to hear of your loss a truly terrible time for you all.:(.

I also agree, and would like to send my best wishes to you and your family at this time. Take care xxx

Don't apologise - you have way more important things to contend with at the moment. I'm really sorry you and your family have had to go through this crappy time - best wishes to you all.

As an aside - this is your 52 project and you can shoot the photos whenever, and in whatever order you like... for whatever reason.

Have to agree with all the others. You have nothing to apologise for.
Condolensces sent out to you and your family

Dizzy - I'm so sorry, my flippant remarks were totally inapproriate. My sympathies to you, Jo and all her family.

You've more important things to think about at the moment than your 52 and have absolutely nothing to apologise for. I'm unlikely to get my shot in today for totally trivial reasons, ie rotten time planning.

Take care and be good to yourselves. :)

:hug::hug: to you and Jo.

Jean

I'm so sorry to hear about the terrible time that you and Jo have had recently and send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Certainly no apology is needed and you haven't let anyone down, least of all yourself.

Take care and look after yourself and your family first. We'll still be here when you feel up to it.

I think this sums it all up from everyone, hope to see you when and if your ready... We are all thinking of you at this time...

A heartfelt thank you to all of you for the kind comments and support. It's getting beyond a joke at the moment for Jo's parents as the day after the funeral they went to check on their neighbour of 50 years as her curtains were still drawn at lunchtime. Unfortunately, she'd passed away the previous evening and they discovered her on the floor of her lounge. It's been very stressful, but I can see light at the end of the tunnel and I'm hoping to get back in to the 52 saddle this weekend. Thanks to everyone again from us both!
