hi everyone

I was just wondering how people frame their own prints?
I've made a couple of different attempts, with varying success. The most successful method I've had involves the following, would appreciate any pointers, advice, do/don'ts

- 20x16" frame with detachable (usually MDF-type) backing board (like this)
- A3 mount
- mount spray (like this)

- I position and affix the print to the backing board with spray
- lay the mount over the print
- place both of these into the frame
- seal around the back of the frame with mounting tape

I'm not sure whether affixing the print to the frame's backing board is the best thing to do? Or whether I should get another piece of backing board as well as the one which comes with the frame.

If there are elements of this process which ring alarm bells or could be improved, info would be most appreciated! :)

I never fix my prints to the frame back board, I do attach small pieces of sticky tape to the top of the print onto a mount board, then drop the print and mount board in to the frame making sure the glass was spotless first, then add the back board, pin it and then masking tape it up, turn it over and admire my image and handy work  promptly hang it on the wall as proud as punch

sounds like mount board is the best thing to use to attach the print to... presumably you attach pieces of tape to the reverse of the print? I guess the print needs to be flattened out first, something I never remember to do until it's too late! as they usually come straight out of a cardboard tube.

:plusone:

Same method as above, although I usually cut my own mounts (to varying degrees of success) and secondly, they're usually bought prints and not my own work

Yes to both questions, I always lay them flat, when I first get them, I sandwich it between 2 prices of cardboard

Same method as above,

although I usually cut my own mounts (

I cut my own mounts also, I use a Logan Mount Cutter, I buy my mount board (60" x 54") but you can get smaller like double elephant which is half the size I get, down to A4 and smaller, form a local art supplies they have lots of colours, I usually go for shades of grey, from dark to light, buff or white, although some times dark green, depending on the individual print

In a 20" x 16" frame all prints must be spray mounted to a piece of board or dry mounted or somehow affixed to it. It is preferable to use mount board rather than the backing board. If the print is not affixed to a board there is nothing to keep it flat in the 2mm cavity created by the mount aperture.

thanks for the replies... sounds like I've been going along the right lines, just a tweak here and there :)
