Did Amazon mess up, or did I just get a good deal? (game pre-order)

I was playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue the other day, and was really enjoying it, so thought I'd see if there were any good deals for pre-ordering the full game. I went onto amazon, and it was listed, available for pre-order for £17! I know when it comes out it'll be £39.99, so I thought I'd save myself a few quid and order it there and then.

Anyway, I checked back the next day, and the pre-order price had gone up to £38. It's under my 'Not yet dispatched' section, as it won't be out for a few months, and as per the Amazon pre-order promise thing, I'll get it for the lowest price it is at between now and it shipping, but I was just wondering what was going on here?!

GT5: Prologue is now listed at the same price that I pre-ordered the full version for, so do you think that's coincidence, or they messed up somewhere?

And they're not going to suddenly change their minds and charge me the full £40 are they?! Has anyone got any experience of this? Cheers,

Chris

i think they might have messed up. but you should still get it for the price that you have paid especially if they have already taken the money from your account. i remember a few years back when lcd tv's had just come out and argos listed a huge one for about £200 pounds but it should have been £2000 but all the online orders for the £200 price were sold at that price and there were thousands ordered

i would expect you will get an email saying they made a mistake and that they have cancelled your order.

This has happened on play before, and iirc, they have a clause in the T&C saying that mistakes are made and if the wrong price is put up you will not get the item

or something like that :)

If it's just a pre-order and they don't actually have the goods to supply to you yet and especially if they haven't taken any money from you yet then they have plenty of time to realise their mistake and cancel the order and give you the opportunity to re-order at the correct price. You never know though, you may be lucky and they could honour the lower price. Fingers crossed.

There's something in the T+Cs about the contract not becomming binding until the goods are shipped. Basically means that they can alter the price and cancel your order at any point between the order and dispatch.

I know that a lot of companies that have those terms and conditions, and I'm not sure if amazon do or not. But they also have this "Pre-order price promise", where you pre-order, then if the price changes at any point between pre-ordering and the item being sent to you, you get the lowest price.

I don't know if that counts if they make a mistake or something though, the price on the website has gone up, but it's still under my orders at the price I pre-ordered it at!

Has anyone done this before, as it would be good to hear from someone who's done it first hand! Cheers for the replies guys,

Chris

I reckon that means if the price changes, not if they realise they've mucked up. But then again, whether they mucked up or not, they still changed the price...so you could argue it.

also did you actually buy it from amazon or from a seller on amazon ?

last week girlfriend ordered something for £5 that was £12.50 everywhere else then amazingly the item was never shipped as the seller had stock issues, but had loads for sale at £12.50

:plusone:

I ordered something since it was a good £100 cheaper than the going rate but they canceled the order within a few hours and put the price up. (although i think it was coming from a 3rd party selling on amazon)

It was direct from Amazon, not through the marketplace or a seller through amazon. I guess we shall just have to wait and see!

Amazon have a policy of not debiting your account until the item is ready for dispatch, this acts as a catch all in the event they have underpriced goods. In fact it was implemented for this very purpose when they were caught out a few years due to some dolt pricing HP PDA's for 7 quid each. They had to honour the transaction for the ones they had debited the amounts from the bargain hunters' accounts. The rest they cancelled.
