Looking to treat myself to a new monitor to replace my Dell U2414H (older 24" 1080P Ultrasharp). I was thinking of treating myself to either a 27" QHD, 4K or even a 32" 4K Dell Ultrasharp (dependent on how I'm feeling on any particular day!) Then I started seeing reports of issues with significant backlight bleed on newer Dell Ultrasharp models, which is putting me off I have to say! I don't have any backlight bleed issues with my current monitor (brightness set to 75% and hardware calibrated) - panel brightness seems pretty uniform across the screen. My current model has a very narrow bezel (as do the current models) and that seems to be related to the issues being reported.

Any of you guys and gals have any of the newer Dell Ultrasharp model (U2719D, U2721DE, U2720Q or U3219Q) and if so, do you have any issues with the backlight/uniformity across the screen/backlight bleed?

I use two Dell Ultrasharps the older monitor is a U2312 and set to 81% brightness but is 6 years old at least, The other is a more recent U2518 which is set to 27% brightness. The brightness is set using the Spyder 3 Pro but the backlighting fades over time. The last Dell Ultra sharp eventually had to be set to 100% but from that point, it could not be calibrated but was 7 years old. They will usually need to be about 25% when they are new. I have not been aware of any other issues or calibration problems. I now use Display Cal with my Spyder and the Spyder software is not compatible with W10.

Brightness is at 75 on my 8 year old U2412M. 15 would be deep twilight. A wavy shadow has also appeared on the right hand side of the screen...

I didn't think fading brightness was a thing with LED backlit screens TBH - plasma TV's yes, but that's another story... Can't say I've had to adjust mine over time and I've had it a good 5 years or so.

Personally, I have used duel monitors for over 15 years and could not go back. My wife now wants a second monitor. It is not just that LR is designed for duel monitors and it is a great advantage for PS but I find it valuable for most things I do. I frequently need more than one window open at a time (e.g. Outlook and Word/Excel/Access). I also use accounting S/W and often need another window open with that.

I use dual monitors at work and they're great for productivity (much better than snapping an app to each side of one screen), but don't really see the need at home - if I'm editing that tends to be all I'm doing. I don't have desk space for two monitors at home either. I've tried dual monitor for LR, but didn't find it really worked at all TBH - think it was loupe view or something like that, maybe I'm doing something wrong

Have you bought one yet?
I've just checked the price of the U2720Q and it's £629 direct from Dell and £530 at laptops direct.

Big difference there.

Edit. Quite a lot of complaints on Amazon reviews about build quality and backlight bleeding

I haven't, still procrastinating over this one! Keep getting distracted by other kit too ;)

Yes, there does seems to be a fair bit of negative feedback amongst the Amazon reviews, hence posting here to see if anyone has personal experience of them

I have the BenQ PD2700Q and is superb.

I don't see the need to spend any more.

Interesting, good price too - still undecided over QHD and 4K though, albeit I'm sure there'll be a 4K model in the Benq range

I have the 2719D, and am pretty damn pleased with it tbh. Straight outa the box it`s good, but I calibrated mine with DisplayCal, and it`s even better. Yes there is a little bit of light bleed when you have a totally black (or dark screen), but in the real world it`s not noticable at all. For all I know, it might even be ambient light hitting it from elsewhere.
fwiw I also have a little Dell soundbar clipped on to the stand, which makes it nice and descrete.

Thanks Paul, have to say the idea of the soundbar is something attracting me to the Dell models rather than starting to look elsewhere
