So not everyone is skinny.. Whats the issue

they should charge you for the total weight when you are travelling by air

Wah wah wah.
Isn't it about time you cried about it to the airlines instead of whining about it over and over here?

I have - but it starts with a "public" debate

why should I have to pay more to take an extra "bag" (my 600mm f4 lens plus tripod etc. etc), when a "big fat lump" sitting next to me who weighs over 23 kgs more than me pays less ....

In fact why should I have to sit next to a "big fat lump" who "spills over" into the seat that I have paid for

..... if you want democracy there has to be "fairness"

And you'd gain what from that?

obviously "sharper images"

that should be obvious as it is a "bloody" photographic forum

What's with all the "...."?

Jesus Christmas Bill quit with the bloody rudeness I posted my question before you replied to Ruth about taking your camera on board!!

Upgrade to first/business class I understand they have bigger seats, ;)

Perhaps they should have planes especially for the miserable skinnies :p

just lighten up - rudeness - it is just a "joke"

- generation gap, or something - do you understand the thread - did you read the title?

as I said "pathetic"

(Oh, I get it now, most women think that they are "fat"[even thin ones] - it's not about you!!! ...... vanity thy name is woman)

I've gone to two seats against the bulkhead - extra leg room or sometimes this traveller plus thing

If he's lighter, his flight would be cheaper.:p
Maybe there is a case for total weight to be looked at? Don't They charge for overweight cases on the basis that the plane uses more fuel?
I'd have to pay more than my wife as I'm overweight:eek: or maybe she'd pay less than me, so as not to offend me by asking me to pay more. :(

Or they have a max weight allowing for body shapes... All these that complain I'm sure wouldn't if for some reason or another piled the weight on and we're made to feel bad ;)

I don't think air fares are his issue really. You could let him fly for free and his complaints would continue IMO.
Judging by his attitude and choice of phrasing in this and other threads, he's simply offended at the mere possibility of being seated next to an overweight person.

Its a shame we are not all a cubed or rectangular shape really, they could do away with the seats, and stack us neatly around the edged,
Thus saving weight on the actual seats

hmm wonder what my nephew would have to say about this. hes 6"6 tall, weighs 17 stone and is a heavyweight kickboxer. don't think he would be to impressed by a pay per pound flight.

Fat people contribute to majority of NHS (or equivalent) spending. Heart disease, diabetes, worn joints, etc. It is almost as bad as smoking and alcoholism. We should heavily tax all sugary and fatty non-essential foods. Heavy sugar intake is incompatible with human health.

P.S. My granddad has all of the above problems due to obesity. Yes it hurts but it doesn't make it an excuse to justify it. If he had been pressurised by his GP and taxes on certain foods he might still be a healthy and fit chap.

On the other hand a few weeks ago I met an 80+ year old local photographer and mountaineer. He looked like 70 or less, physically fit, and was lively and chatty despite being older. Here is a good example what a healthy lifestyle can do to the quality of life.

I agree about the dangers of being overweight. I've been overweight most of my adult life.

However, I would like to see efforts targeted at the large commercial situation that allows such crap, overprocessed food to be absolutely everywhere at a ridiculously low price.
It does cost more to eat healthy, home cooked meals and many people do struggle.

I'd also like to see efforts put towards proper treatment and rehabilitation.
Not enough people view problems with food as real problems like we treat alcoholism and drug addiction.

I'm carrying extra lbs, sometimes I eat healthily sometimes not, I smoke but rarely drink, I have a very active job, I bet I have more stamina and am fitter than a lot of "average weight" people that spend their life sitting behind a desk. You can't generalise.

The irony of it is that he's complaining on here and if statistics are to be believed he's insulting 2 out of 3 people.

One thing I have noticed when out and about with friends too, it's not always the ones that look fit that are.
When I damaged my knee and then an elbow so was inactive for a while I put on weight, when I was active again
although I seemed to be losing weight clothes wise I wasn't, my physio explained it, muscle weighs more then fat and as such although
I was reducing the fat I wasn't losing overall weight .......................................damn it can't win :(

I'm 5'8" and weigh 15 stone, I weight train to achieve that weight, by BMI levels I am obese although I'm likely to just take up a little more arm and possibly thigh room, I won't exactly be spilling over onto someone elses seat, so would have no problem if I had to pay more for a flight. If I stop training my weight drops back down to 12.5 stone if not too active, probably 11.5 stone if I still remained fairly active, it's my choice to weigh that much as I'm sure it is your nephews.

Although I don't eat the processed foods, I do eat the healthy stuff, it is easy to find frozen healthy food which sometimes works out cheaper than buying fresh all the time as it is all too easy to buy too much fresh food and throwing it away because it has gone bad before you can consume it. It is surprising how much you can save by moving to frozen food in as many cases as possible.

Wow....Bill is on a real crusade here..........or was....................:D

i got to 20 seconds of that video before i wanted to slap that woman.

can someone tl;dr for me?

First vid: I'm an alleged comedian that nobody has heard of. I think I can become famous by deliberately antagonising people. Also some mildly funny stuff about the Walking Dead (yes, I used fast forward a lot)
Second vid: I'm fat and I find it offensive that anybody could make fun of that (she may have a point but I used FFWD a LOT because crying)

HTH

To the OP: I'm pretty sure I mentioned Air Samoa last time this came up.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/10510159/Pay-as-you-weigh-airline-expands.html

They reckon if you weigh 120 kilos or less then you'd be better off on a pay by weight system. Which is interesting because I'm shopping for airline tickets this afternoon and my wife and I weigh less than 120 kilos between us.

To long didn't read. Not quite right for a video but I'm going with it.. :D
Thanks for the translation ;)

First there was first class & cattle class, then along came business class.
We had Smoking or none smoking, they seem to have skipped the drinking or none drinking class,
but gone straight for the "fat" "normal" or "skinny" class, where will it all end I wonder ?

Men only class? Colour of your skin class? Oh wait "we" did that and look where that all ended up ;)

Men Only? Class? Surely you mean Mayfair?! ;) :D

I fall way into the not skinny description but my width is due to my shoulders not my gut - I have to sit semi twisted or in a window seat with my outside shoulder in the window. If I sit in an aisle seat, I get clouted by the trolleys. I'm under 120kg so should still get a cheap seat on Air Samoa if I ever fly with them! IF a roomier class was available on the flights we take, I'd be very tempted although for 4 hours, I can rough it. Leg room isn't a problem - despite being over 6', I have short, fat, hairy legs but a long body.

Maybe we should charge more for people with colds. ..risking my health with their foul germs.
Best not charge by the weight of shullbit though....some folk would never get airborne again
