Dave's 365

96/365 - Another close up flower shot but only because I got a new lens today - a Nikkor 28mm f2.8 AI-S - which is a manual focus lens! So as you might have gathered this is a test shot. It's my first manual focus lens and I must say that I'm impressed with the build quality and the ease to acquire focus on the D300. I got this lens as when reversed on the body it gives 9x magnification!:lol::lol: Not bad for £60! :D

Hi Dave, just caught up with your 365 (I keep up on your Flikr - it's much easier watching the slideshow version)!

You're really excelling yourself, especially since you got the D300. You set out to challenge yourself and so far you seem to be succeeding.........and winning :clap:

Far too many good ones to pick a favourite:thumbs:

nice composition as JD says and I love the kind of over blown washed out look, makes the scene dream like. That top stone looks like a good skimmer, did you skim it afterwards?

Copied from the exif:

# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/8000 second = 0.00013 second
# Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 28/10 = F2.8
# Exposure Program = aperture priority (3)
# ISO Speed Ratings = 200

99/365 - And another flower shot - this time with the Nikkor 28mm AI-s. I'm really loving the colour, contrast and bokeh of this old lens! :D (Missed the focus a bit though - it was windy!)

I struggled as well when I was using the nifty with the d40 Dave, I think the soft look actually adds something to this shot, you have the petals of the front flower spot on, not what you were aiming for but it works!! :)

congratulations on reaching 100, you shoudl be getting a telegram soon :)

ahhhh more macro shots , not fair

Forgot we are 100 days in, maybe it's possible after all.

Water droplet shot is simple, but nice.

Plentyo rain today Dave so lots of h2o opportunities around, nicely done Mate

101/365 - Well, my first HDR and I can't say I like it that much but I'm fed up with trying to get it how I want it :bang:. I think I need a lot more practice or alternative methods!

The subject is the 13th century church of St Bartholomew at Manor Farm, Hampshire, which is a Victorian working farm run by Hampshire County Council.

Great for a first attempt I must say. I can see some halos on the trees in the background. Avoiding halos and avoid increasing noise is really the main thing to aim for I find. I still find HDR processing really hard and even when you think you have it cracked. I frequently find that there are some shots I really can't get right when HDR processing, some look fantastic with little effort (like my Old Wardour Castle shot) and others take ages and countless adjustments to get a half decent effect.

The thing I find with HDR is that you need to pick a shot that HAS a high dynamic range or it just doesn't work. Yours does Dave, though I'm probably sure that you would have been able to achieve the same result by standard processing. I tend to find that what works best is when there is no extremes in highlights/shadows. The best HDR's have never been too overexposed or underexposed with the exposure compensation. If that makes any sense??

Thanks Julian. I did HDR on this as I wanted to get the foreground detail whilst still retaining the sky detail.

Looking pretty good to me Dave, quaint little church.
Thanks Alby :) Nice little place for a few hours photography is Manor Farm

Looks good to me too - I like that
Thanks Kay :)

Sort of. This was actually two shots, one at 0EV and one at +2EV. I did this in CS3 using the Merge HDR option.

Dave, I've just re read what I posted last night in a drunken stupor, what I meant to say was that HDR normally works for me best when I have no highlights blown. My previous comment was a bit of a long winded drunk way of saying it. ;)

102/365 - I went to the Royal Armouries Museum at Fort Nelson today and unbeknown to me they had a World War Two re-enactment day which was great fun. This was a shot after the Russians defeated the Germans at the battle of Stalingrad! Great fun. If anyone's interested it's on tomorrow too. :) I took loads of pictures and will post the rest in the people section once I've had a chance to sort them out!
