Right on theme and works really well in B & W.
The focus works well and I don't think you really need to see more of the bike as it would take the focus of the brakes slightly

Finally a theme that had me thinking of different ideas and got me out and about with the camera. Managed to get 3 shots!!

The first is the one I had in my mind from the start, its the bridge where myself and my wife had our wedding photos taken at and it randomly in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere, isolated you could say.....
Thought it needed someone in the shot so go the wife to walk into the shot from the left, it was raining and think here umbrella adds to the shot as it helps seperate her from the background.

The second shot is one I wanted to do to portray agoraphobia which isolates people from the outside world. Again I used my wife and wanted it to look quite dark.

The last shot is a bonus one, when driving back from the bridge shot I spotted a barn house in the middle of a rapeseed field, thought the colours were really nice and helped isolate the barn even more.

Still not sure which is my best but I'm just pretty chuffed to do 3 I'm happy to put on the thread.... and a day early too.

3 really good shots there from you for this week. However, if I had to rank them in order of preference, I would say 2-3-1. I think your wife's facial expression in image 2 really does demonstrate agoraphobhia in how she almost looks scared of the outside world and feels isolated. Not just that, the lighting also isolates her from the background which I really like.
Th barn shot is cool too - really like contrast between the colourful rapeseed field and barn and the moody sky although in my opinion, I think there is a bit too much sky in the frame and the image could do with a slight crop so there is a little less sky. The first image doesn't do a lot for me but what matters is that it's personal to you and I think adding your wife with the brolly definitely has worked well.

1. good composition again but the lighting is very flat, not surprising given the conditions.
2. Excellent and really conveys the sense of isolation.
3. Also very good - I like the composition and the colours (and was looking for something similar myself without success!).
My fav is no.2 - it has something special. Well done!

The contrast of the dark indoors and light outside make it for me - and you've got that white sheet to stop the indoors aspect from being too completely black.

Number one doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. I can understand your reasons for taking it though. I think it is the lack of tonal range that spoils it for me. The black and white needs more range to stand out and not look so flat.

Number two is superb. It is a really strong image. Well composed, well set-up and well lit. One for you as a photographer and your wife as a model to be proud of.

Number three is good but not in the same league as number two. I always seem to have an issue with OOF strong foregrounds. Maybe just me :shrug:

1 - what an ornate and pretty bridge to cross a stream/river from a field to field in the middle of nowhere............ Having the Wife with umbrella adds to the shot definately.

2 - that's a disturbing and moving picture. Almost has "Charity Poster" screaming at me..... lucky you have such a willing model. Sharon runs a mile usually if I point a lens anywhere near her.

3 - I just like - unusual barn, but I am getting bloody fed up with oil seed rape round here in Norfolk now...........

I wouldnt say she was so willing.... but it added towards the expression on her face.

Never struggled for motivation more than I have this week.

The rain stopped earlier today, just enough for us to pop out for a walk around the block and have a bit of quality time together.

Camera on tripod, remote shutter release.

The shot is exactly what I had in mind so thats a bonus.

Please lets have a better theme this week.

I like the composition, particularly the angles in the image,your arms draw the eye down to your clasped hands and then through the scene into the distance. Maybe just needs a bit more contrast to make it pop a bit more but other than that... Iain

Yet another catch-up from me, Dan.

Ingredients: I can't make up myu mind about this one. I feel there's a good shot to be had, but somehow it doesn't grab me. (Sorry), but I do love that amazing pestle and mortar and I am intruiged by all the ingredients - I've never made curry from scratch! Perhaps there'll be a theme which will lend itself to you posting up a tutorial on making curry.

Stop: Given the theme, I don't think you could have used a different pov - this is spot on. I like the dof and the mono treatment - definitely a good 'un.

Isolation: A totally rubbish theme, and you've managed to come up with three stunning and very different interpretations for it.

My favourite is #2 and your wife's expression is just right. I love the pose and composition, and there's just the right balance of light from the window and shadows from the left.

#1 is interesting but for some reason I want to see the view from the other side of the bridge, hoping it would give the bridge more prominence in the shot and there would be lots of empty space over on the left to show the isolation. I hope that makes sense!

#3 is well-spotted and I like the contrast between the heavy sky and the brilliance of the rape flowers. It's the sort of shot you'd see in a tourist brochure (that's meant to be a compliment, btw)


Quality: If this is what you produce when you're not inspired, then I can't wait to see what you produce in a good week! It's a subtle, beautfully crafted shot - well balanced with good use of dof and mono processing. I really, really like it.

Really like the first two isolation shots, Dan. The rape field one suffers from a lack of vibrancy. I always feel rape need sun to make it glow.

Not a bad attempt at This weeks either, fella. Nice feel to it and compositionally it works. Just a little soft.

Cheers Iain, pushed the contrast as far as I dare to as because it was a crop of a bigger pic I was already starting to lose sharpness.

Good point about the rapeseed, its was a bit overcast.

It is a touch soft for quality, it was a crop of a larger pic but I stupidly hadnt noticed the camera was set to low quality jpeg and it started raining so couldnt get back outside.

I like the composition and the black and white works well.

The only slight distraction is the highlight at the top of the tree inbetween you.

A good image considering you didn't like the theme.
