Well done Andy, and very brave too ;)... I really like the effect and it's clearly speedy. Shadows and Highlights might be able to do something with that top left hand corner (suppress the bright look maybe), although the crop is better.

This weeks will be interesting to say the least. We'll see if the comments are as positive when I post that up :suspect:

My next day off is Sunday so another last minute effort will be forthcoming :lol:

At least next week I am off work :clap: so hopefully will have a decent run at week 7.
 
Definitely a different take on speed. I like it.

Cant quite work out whether the effect looks accidental or not but it certainly works.

The bright coloured clothing helps the girl stand out from the background.

I am not happy with this weeks shot at all.

It was very rushed as I decided to get a shot in on time rather than posting one late. On camera flash with a reflector on one side.

I guess it would have worked better if I had spent some more time setting up and used off camera flash.

Lets hope this weeks theme is a good one as I have a week off work this week :thumbs:

Great idea for speed, just quite not there yet as I think you need a sharper figure and a blurred background.

I think getting in closer would have helped a little to show more detail of the watch.

Some lovely colour, but I think it may have been a bit better it you'd have got some detail in the watch face

I think opinion is divided on the speed shot. Some like it as it is, some would rather see the subject sharp.

This was as close as I could get with my current set-up. I have no macro facilities at all yet.

As above. I'm not overly happy with this at all to be honest. My self crit would be needs more detail and shadows are distracting. Certainly not one of my better shots :'(

Andy, the colours work well, but I think a closer view of the watch would have improved it a lot. It just seems to be a bit lacking

Definitely has potential as a subject for this week's theme, great colour combination and I like the orangey glow to the lighting.
But I think I'd have to agree with your own crit on this one :(
As others have said, a lower and closer angle would have helped too.
 
This week has been a complete nightmare.

I had planned to go to Blists Hill victorian village for the people shot but freezing weather, rain and snow put paid to that.

I then got a virus on my PC. I spend two days trying to clear it but had to reformat in the end :bang: Luckily all my photos are on a seperate drive which is OK.

Having finally got up and running again I have decided to reshoot present:

Following this weeks disaster with the PC and not getting out due to the weather I though I would have to play a joker.

Instead here is another last minute still life. Getting to be a bit of a habit now :)

Very colourful and chuckleworthy. A whole troop of Morph clones :) Background is whited out nicely but some extreme highlights on the right side of Mr Brown's face and Mr Yellow will always be awkward to light. Looks in need of a little sharpening and could maybe do with being off centre too. Nice effort though which has tickled me :)

The highlights on Mr Brown are actually white plasticine that was mixed in with the brown.

I should of realised about the yellow after shooting the peppers a few weeks ago :shake: I did have a few other colours around as well.
 
I've just had a bit of a play.

Cropped a bit to move off-centre and cloned out some of the white from Mr Browns head.

I have to say that now I have loked at them together "team talk" does win out.

I have just noticed how Mr purple seems to be struggling with the weight and Mr Blue is trying to balance at the top in the pyramid shot :lol:

Thought I'd swing by and pick up another thread I missed. Apparently there are over 150 active 52 threads so getting to them all on a regular basis is a challenge... Anyway. Enough excuses!

I'm not going to comment on all your shots, but looking through them I sense a love of colour coming through. Most are bright and airy which is nice to see in a collection of photos.

I particularly liked Speed, and think that's your best so far. The People shot above is also very good, although it looks a little bright to me. Your crop seems to have lost some colour too, but that may well be my laptop monitor... It also looks a little soft (as Darren said).

As far as the contept goes though, it's a great idea, and I love the "team talk".

Will try and keep up this week!

My 52 so far is not really reflective of my photography in general.

I actually love black and white and don't like still life. A bit strange when 5 out of 7 are still life and all are colour :lol:

I am working on putting that right for this week though :suspect:
 
Very clever Andy and it's worked a treat. The crop is much better, and team talk is very good. Funny too... As for behing what you don't like... that's that the 52 is all about.
 
After dismissing the obvious car engine or toolbox shots I decided on this:

I live quite close to the caldon canal and it has a few locks within walking distance. I am quite pleased with this as I finally got chance to submit a mono image :clap:
 
very nice, think the mono conversion works well too, I wonder if it would look more in context if the geared thingy (whatever you call it) was in the right hand third and you could see more of the lock to the left of it?

Great idea for people, the different colours work well for composition the last one for me.

I prefer the second shot, the crop works alot better and it's a great choice for the theme.

The only problem with this weeks image is that it has got me thinking about doing a seperate 52 based on the Caldon canal. It is 21 miles in total with plenty of locks, lift bridges, etc so loads of photo ops.
 
Hi Andy another day another 52 glad to see you are getting back to what you like in the 52 after all your still life photos,but the pick for me is your re-arranged poem shot of the tulips simple but very effective :thumbs: also like your last black and white image after it was recomposed think it would be even better if the sky was not as blown which could be altered in pp.

I have struggled with the sky in this. I took several looking down to miss out the sky altogether as it was just grey and lifeless. This shot was still the best one though. I tried to tone it down with photoshop but couldn't get it to look natural.

I really want some decent weather now. Everywhere is grey and miserable at the moment. It feels that nature is poised waiting for spring and getting impatient :lol: Just when you think it's going to improve another load of snow, drizzle,sleet or precipitation of your choice falls from the heavens :(

Mechanical - I really like the subject. I prefer the composition of the second version but I actually like the over-exposed look of the first. It makes it look other-worldly and a bit out of the ordinary.

I agree entirely about the weather!

I like your mono conversion and the composition, though the sky looks a little blown...? Or is it just empty?

There was no detail in the sky to bring out unfortunately. This was my second trip as well. The first attempt I had overdone even lighter skies and couldn't use the shots at all. I am much happier with these.

There is a blue tone to it as I was playing with the split toning in Adobe Camera Raw. I quite like the effect. It makes it look as cold as it felt :D

I can see myself spending more time by this canal in the coming weeks and months.
 
Really love your people shots! They are cracking! Great idea and nicely executed. Not so keen on this week's though... it's a bit wishy washy. You've captured the subject well enough, I think it's probably not the best composition and the processing that's letting it down for me. Sorry I can't offer anything more constructive. :)
 
The second shot works better. It looks less washed out too...
 
I can't believe that I missed your people shots Andy.
What a brilliant idea! Fun, vibrant and really well executed.
For composition I think it has to be the team talk, but the lighting and shadows work better in the pyramid shots.

Mechanical : :thinking: This hasn't had the positive reaction that I thought it would. I actually like the cold PP and the slightly washed out look adds to the aged feel for me :shrug:
I think that it may have benefited from a step further to the right for a stronger composition and IMO you could afford to lose most of the white sky by cropping from the top . . . there is definitely something pleasing about it though.

I have been a little dissapointed by some of the comments on this weeks shot so I'm glad you like it.

Personally I wasn't over the moon with the people shots but others seem to like them :shrug:

I'm struggling to work out if I'm going in the right direction or not. Let's see what "play" brings to the confusion :thinking:
 
Catch up time, for me. :)

Present: It's probably no surprise to you that I prefer the reshoot version. Reflective surfaces are always a pain, aren't they?

People: Well done for getting a shot when you thought there was no hope! I like the pyramid pose and think Mr Blue looks as though he's doing well to keep his balance, but then the team hug is vibrant and made me smile. Two good 'uns, Andy. :thumbs:

Mechanical: I love the first one for the processing and the gritty industrial feel you've created. It look as though the shot's stepped straight out of the Industrial Revolution when canals were the preferred mode of transport. I like the other 2 versions as well, and having more of the canal in the shot puts them into context. So I might be in the minority but I think this is an excellent take on the theme and I look forward to seeing lots more around this site. :thumbs:
