D90 Owners Thread - Anything D90 related

I've said it before, I'll say it again . . . "the D90 is heading for 'Classic' status'? . . .

Its strength; button controls, body motor and a superb viewfinder . . . 'unpretentious quality', it simply gets on with the job as 'you require' . . . what more can be asked:shrug:

Add the Nikon 18-70, f3.5 and you have a superb, reasonably priced, walk about combination . . . taking the hobbyist a long way down the photographic road . . .

Just my humble opinion of course . . . CJS

Camera won't be here til next week now :( Leaves me camera-less over the bank holiday now too

Is it better than the D200? I'm undecided

well the other half has got me a second hand d90, its not arrived yet but im so excited, he has claimed my d70 as his now and were going to share my lenses till i get new ones, oh i cant wait for it to arrive.

After a long break of madness I am getting back into photography, and I am going to sell off my Sony alpha 200 to part fund a d90.

Also looking at getting the 35mm 1.8 lens!

You'll enjoy the combination of the D90 / 35 1.8. Great to use for all sorts of shooting.

Really looking forward to getting my hands on it! I enjoyed using a 50mm prime with my film om10, I am right in thinking 35mm on crop sensor is about 50 equivalent on a full frame?
I think I worded that wrongly ;)

Yes, on a Nikon 35mm is about 52mm I believe so very close to what it was on the old film camera.

Hi ya

just popping in to say I've now joined this club

Have yet to try the D90 but looking forward to it after reading all the positive comments on here. Got it as a main camera , relegating my D80 to backup or macro body

Welcome to the D90 club Lynne.

Guys!

Im new to all this and so im in the market for my first DSLR but i really cannot decide i really like the d90 so i want an honest answer....And dont shoot me for asking

Is the d90 out of date?

I have been shooting with the D90 when it was first introduced. It was an upgrade from my D70. This is one camera I doubt will ever get outdated but only get better with age. I believe the Nikon D90 will one day be one of those truly classic cameras. Get one and go out and enjoy all that it has to offer.:love

Bit of advice please guys, I'm thinking of selling my Nikon D90 just wondered if anyone could give me a rough price I should advertise it for please?

It has took 470 pictures and has a 18-105 nikon vr lens, Nikon camera bag, with 4gb sandisk extreme sd card, all boxed with all instructions etc.

All brand new condition.

Any advice would be great.

;)

I'll gladly relieve you of the d90 for the price of postage ;)

Body only on these pages are going for about £400 - £430; the 18-105 about £125.

Ask for £575 and hopefully get about £525.

The new rules that new site members cannot access the buy and sell section means that there are fewer sales on low-end gear.

I am saving for a D90 and up to now I haven't heard any negative comments about the camera, would you mind saying why you are thinking of selling it? Regarding the price, a new one can be bought for just over £500 so £400 for yours with such a low shutter actuation sounds about right to me. Although I would prefer new I would probably be tempted at that price.

Chappers whats that lens like thats going to be my next buy!!

I have it too. Love it for zoo visits. Have taken some nice shots of sports too, mainly baseball, so its good light and being a very minority sport you can get close enough with the 300 for good action shots of the batter and pitcher. It really struggles to focus on a subject that's close up but that's not why you buy a 70-300! It's no 2.8 lens but for the money won't complain and I'm really glad to have it as part of my kit. Hope that helps, CJ

As it's been said, it's a quality lens, not too heavy, well made, sharp images, quick to focus etc etc. I did think about a cheaper alternative (including the Nikon 55-300) but decided that the 70-300 VR offered the best quality and features. I also bought it used (there are some for sale in the classified section on here at the moment for very reasonable prices).

I'm very impressed with it - it had it's first outing with me at Rockingham race track the other week and handled that with ease!

Thanks for the information guys really helpful i wanted the lens for sports to mainly motorsports

What do you call reasonable money as i still have alot of posts left untill i can look at the classifieds

OMG! Had a 1st little play with the D90 last night trying out the Tamron f2.8 macro lens I've also just treated myself too .....can't belive how much difference there is from the D80:eek:
Only problem now is that I was going to relegate the D80 to back up or just use it with the Tamron ,using the D90 with my bigger lens for motorcycle racing.....now I want to get rid of the D80 & get another D90

Don't tempt me !

A question for all you D90 owners as my brain is a bit frazzled & I can't work this out .I've tried reading the manual ( ) & Ken Rockwells info but still a bit lost...apologies for being a bit dim.....

On my D80 you could move the focus point left right up & down using the toggle button on the back of the camera .You could see where it was by looking at the LCD display on the top of the camera in a little square to the side of the AF-S AF-C indicator

How do you move it on the D90 ? At the moment the little box is on the righthandside in the view finder ,bought the camera 2nd hand from here & the previous owner had it set up differently to my D80( yes I have asked him but he shot in manual so never bothered with it )

Any clues ? or shild I just reset everything to standard settings & start again ( though all the other controls I have figured out & can live with )

cheers

Move the lock button to the little dot rather than the L. Then use the d pad as normal to move the focus points

go to custom setting, menu a1,in left column highlight pencil.on the right select a autofocus.select a1 af-area mode, select single point, this will let you select focus point with the selector,if you want to lock focus point, move the switch (with the l on,) off the dot
