D810 Firmware Update V1.13

Any idea what this addresses please ?

Follow the link for details.

Having downloaded the Firmware Update to a memory card, put it back in the camera, I cannot see the "Update" bit in the Menu that should appear under "Done"

Anyone any ideas or suggestions please?

Make sure you have saved it at top level on the card and the card is in the primary slot ... typically I format the card, drag the unpacked bin file to the card and it will see it.

I can see the update on the card when it's in the PC but nothing shows up when I put the card back in the camera.

It has to be at the top level, format the card in the PC, drag the BIN file to it and try again.

Panic Over. I'd transferred the wrong bit of the update to my CF card. All seems to be fine now. Thanks for the help.

If you are on your phone it doesn’t give an details as you can’t download the firmwear to that device (or it doesn’t for me anyway).

Sorry, I don't have a D810 I posted the link to advise those that do, hopefully they can get the information they want for themselves if they need it. :)

Biggest thing it addresses for me is the occasional lockup during multiple exposures... not that I have experienced it.

I posted about exactly this issue at the weekend- thought I would have to send camera off for servicing. Wonder if the D500 also suffers.

Time to upgrade firmware and then machine gun for another thousand images.

List of the firmware updates points:

Changes from “C” Firmware Version 1.12 to 1.13
  • • Added the following supports for AF-P lenses:
    • - If the standby timer expires after focusing, the focus position will no longer change when the timer is reactivated.
    • - When focus is adjusted by rotating the lens focus ring, the focus indicator in the viewfinder (and in live view, the focus point in the monitor) now flash to indicate when infinity or the minimum focus distance is reached.
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • - Microphone sensitivity would sometimes not be correctly adjusted when movies were recorded with Auto sensitivity selected for Microphone sensitivity.
    • - The camera would sometimes stop responding during multiple exposure shooting.
Not really its sure the effort for me, maybe for multiple exposures.

This firmware v1.13 has rendered the auto-focus on both my Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO AF and 70-200mm f/2,8 ll EX DG APO MACRO HSM AF lenses inoperable. Response from Nikon: "Thank you for contacting Nikon. It' a pleasure assisting you. When we update our firmware's we make multiple changes to the way our cameras interrupt lens and accessories. This is why we can never directly guarantee compatibility with any third part product we don't sell. I would suggest not up dating your firmware until a newer version comes out."
Response from Sigma: "Please send your lenses to service center for firmware update. The newer firmware for the lenses should be compatible with the new Nikon firmware. After looking at the cost to ship these both back to Sigma, I opted to revert back to the camera firmware v1.12. Perhaps Nikon's next update will fix, perhaps not. I haven't experienced the issues supposedly fixed w v1.13.

I guess when we use third-party anything we accept that manufacturer's updates may affect something ... after all the manufacturer is going to be primarily concerned with solving their own issues, not those of their competitors. :)

The update rendered my 150-500 unusable in AF too @Richard Bean so I rolled back to V1.11 and all works spot on, looking at the reply Nikon gave you, maybe a V1.14 is on the cards and this may address the compatibility issues.

I very much doubt it. Nikon have absolutely zero interest in maintaining compatibility with third party accessories.

@Dangermouse1964 ; why would you revert to v1.11? Did you have problems with v1.12?

@StewartR may very well be correct. Nikon isn't going out of their way in a next firmware, if there is one, to fix third party accessories. Sigma offered to fix with a lens firmware update. I filled out a service ticket, took my lens to UPS and the price to ship was a whopping $37 and change for one way. So roughly $80 for each lens just didn't seem worth it. Perhaps USPS would be cheaper, I have yet to check, but may still. Sigma did also claim a lens firmware update usually improves Live View Auto focus performance of the lenses as well. We shall see...

Is this something that newer dock compatible sigma lenses will be able to overcome at home with a firmware update?

Was thinking of updating the d810 as i was getting lockup sometimes on ch shooting and this suggests it might fix it but all my ling glass, 70-200, 120-300, 150-600 is all sigma and that might be an expensive fix to a different issue

Should be, once Sigma release the firmware update.

I had the same problem with 1.02 on my D610, the AF stopped working on my Sigma 105mm macro. Reverted to 1.01 and all fixed again. Looking at the release notes for latest firmware for a few different Nikons, seems they're implementing the AF-P support across the range, so that's likely breaking support for some third party lenses. The info I read regarding Sigma stuff seemed to suggest that any of their lenses with the HSM AF system would stop working with Nikon cameras with the AF-P support added in firmware.

Yes @Richard Bean I had V1.11 on when I got the camera and it worked fine, I upgraded to V1.13 and the troubles started, none of my lenses would AF so I looked for a roll back and found V1.12 that allowed the lenses to work but my CF card slot stopped working with all my CF cards, the SD slot worked fine, so I rolled back again to V1.11 and all went back to normal with lenses working fully and both card slots working.

Just downloaded V1.12 again from a different source and tried it and both my lenses and card slots work, the firmware that buggered my CF slot was from Nikon themselves and after my recent email to Nikon this has been removed, I have just got the correct version that actually works

Just tried the V1.13 again with same results, Sigma lenses don't work on the new V1.13 firmware, rolled back to V1.12 and all is well again

For latest firmware update 1.13 bin extracted from the D810 folder

if i remember properly I copied both over to the camera not just the bin. Find them in the download folder on your computer send to memory card, then card in the primary slot on the camera

There I was trying to help (see above post ) about the nikon D810 which required memorising
I just happened to be right in the middle of typing out what I did, then!!!!!!!!!
In comes Sue asking if an old pullover still fitted.

Why is it women manage to get excellent timing wrong?

Yep, the bin file, that's the b****r...................renders Sigma lenses useless, the fix is to send the lens to Sigma UK who will charge over 40 quid to let you use it on the D810 (as if we haven't paid enough already) or sell our Sigmas and buy Nikon lenses which Nikon are wanting us to do.

AND did the pullover fit or has Sue shrunk it?????

Can remember it was years ago since I wore it

being serious for a brief moment, rare I know, but I never did get on with sigma lenses on my Nikon cameras, so sold them

my guess is to reinstall the previous version from the nikon download site, but why would you want to?

Just been looking across at other forums and press releases etc. Everyone with a Sigma lens is having a problem with the Nikon upgrade, and it looks as thought the only solution is to get Sgma to update their lenses.
