All he meant was that Nikon are more professional standard and are better technically. He said that for example Compact flash are on there way out and more and more makers are turning to SD having previously supported CF and that SD are considerbly
cheaper
Note where the quoteation marks end he never actually said that Nikon were the Rolls royce of cameras (technically) I should of made it into a question but that is the impression I got

Like for like, Nikon are no better technically than other brands. I'm also not sure about CF being on the way out as new cameras are still being produced that use them and SD cards are certainly not that much cheaper. Sounds like a Nikon fanboy trying to push the brand to me. I've seen it before in Jessops.

I take it you are a sony fan

I guess I am back to square one :bang:

You may not know this but I am now crossing over to sony again

Mind you I wanted to see the continious shoot in operation on the Nikon and he was unable to get the settings right.

Sorry mate, didn't want to confuse you. As I said, you should choose whatever camera you feel is right for you, whatever that brand might be.

To be honest, the sony did feel a little bit better and even he admited that, however its not just the feel of the camera its so much more.

Both have dust cleaning functions
Sony has liveview v nikon which does not
both are 10mp
sony has tilt screen
nikon give £60 back
sony has VR
nikon does not

Nikon uses SD v Sony which uses CF apparently CF are on the way out.

Decesions decesions :bonk::bonk::bonk:

Okay can someone please tell me this putting aside the feel of the camera which camera is slightly more superior a300 or Nikon d60

TBH, they're probably both the same quality wise. And I still don't think that CF is on the way out.

Okay I am going for a300
1) it does feel better
2) it has liveview
3) it has VR

[S1]Well Done![/S1]

Sound like good reasons to make the choice.

Any tips of what to say if the salesman tries to sells me a Nikon D60 I don't want to get confussed again

You could even do Collect at Store. That way you've already made the purchase before you walk in there.

:razz:at collect@store I mean what happens if I get there and say they oops sorry mate we just sold the last one, we are getting more next week. They would of taken my money already

Something similar happened at argos my dad applied for argos card and got credit for something but in the mean time someone else came and paid cash for the item even though the staff were supposed to have put the item aside.

I had to go to the nearest store which had it in stock though and they paid for my taxi home as it was a bit of a distance and the item was quite heavy.

btw the  was NOTat you. Thanks for the suggestion I did know about it.
I am litte uneasy because how up to date is their online, the jessops I went today told me that MY Local jessops only had 2 of D60 never occured to me to ask about the a300 but what I am worried about is if the website says they have in stock but in truth they don't because some person forgot to update the website (i read that stock levels are usually done mannually)

Don't worry, I didn't think the  was at me.

Yes, there is always the chance that the stock figures haven't been updated properly. However, if you get there and the stock isn't available, just demand a full refund.

I think I will just GO there because that way my money is still intact. and I have the option of going else where

is a300 exclusive to jessops because there is a sony centre abou two blocks (Sorry for the amercian jargon) from jessops and wondered if I can get the a300 at the sony centre

i don't think the A300 is exclusive to anywhere, Sony need their cameras to be sold in as many places as possible, making certain models store exclusives wouldn't make much sense, then again, you never know.

Fabs said they had some exclusive deal and jessops are but surly sony would sell their own camera

The jist of what the guy said is 'Nikon are the camera brand to been seen with,'

Nikon are the rolls royce of cameras and sony are the skoda of cameras and cannon are the jaguars

What a redicularse thing to say.

:bang:

Apparently this was the case or so I was told, but on further investigation, the a300 appears to now be available elsewhere. It may be that it was a short term deal which has now expired.

Hi just a note to say that the Nikon does have VR too. Saw that you mentioned it didn;t earlier and didn't want that to affect your decision.

it annoys me how high street stores think making parallels to other products is some how good advice. If Nikon are the Rolls of cameras or whatever, what are Hasselblad or Leica? (apart from brands they don't stock)

I know an old chap who has shot with a Leica all his life, he went into an indy store thinking of trying a DSLR and asked about the D300, the store guiy said, since you don't have any lenses, try this.... an Alpha 700 with a Zeiss lens.

Just to let you guys I got the D60

I bought it in Currys for £379 Jessops were trying to tell me that the £379 was after cashback and currys said £379+ 60 cashback.

Very Happy

:nikon:

just got back from currys,pc world and maplins(looking at portable hard drives)and was admiring the cameras in currys.looked at the nikon, cannon, olympus and sony range, and there isn't much to choose between them TBH.you should be very pleased with the D60..it looks a very nice bit of kit...

happy days :D
