Thank you everyone lol

I wanted to go for a 90s album cover vibe for this one, you know, a really naff band that had one song that people kind of remembered, but never got played.

My son is holding those sausages and wouldn't let me make his hands any wetter - I feel that if it were more obvious the hands were dripping wet it would have elevated the shot, but I couldn't persuade him, even with money.

For my favourite place, sadly the weather didn’t play this weekend so one from the archive taken earlier in the year:

I have lots of favourite places - really I just love being outside… but if I had to pick one place, it would be Sandringham - we lived fairly close by whilst our children were little and have so many memories of them playing there, in all weathers. Since around 2020 Charles took over running of the estate and it went from somewhere quite quirky aimed at families to a more polished tourist money making machine - everything is expensive, more events etc not quite as it was. But still, the woodland, parklands and gardens are beautiful, but I live further away now and only manage to get there one or twice a year.

Another difficult one this week in terms of getting to the right place at the right time to get what I wanted..so I got something a bit trite, but I burned some calories getting there!

Nice set, like the starlight in the reflection. Seems to be loads of berries this year, nice creamy background in the 3rd shot (y)

For the glares and flares, it's just a cheap 4 point star filter with a couple of diffusion filters stacked in front of it for that glow - this is the exact configuration:

Star filter, 1/8 and 1/4

I'm liking this one Mark. Was this taken through a window? What are the white streaks running through the frame?
 
Always really like your processing of your photos. Do run them through something like DxO film pack?

Thank you, Bill - it's a very simple long exposure shot with first curtain flash - I press the shutter, flash fires, and then I moved the cameras around to get the trails from the lights, I thought it was a way to get something under very horrid garage light looking a bit interesting lol!

Thank you Firewireguy, that's very kind. All of my photos are processed in Capture One. My style is probably the culmination of nearly 20 years of refinement and tinkering - it's actually a very simple adjustment, slight green shadows, but of grain, a tone curve, and some tinkering with the hues. I ran hundred of my photos through my various test iterations to get it to work consistently across a huge array of pictures - it's not supposed to emulate a specific film, but rather an idealised film, something like you remember old photos looking like, if you get me!

That's interesting, thank you. I've been really enjoying the 2-3 film types that come with Photolab and have been thinking about getting the full film pack they do. I hadn't considered it would be possible to come up with your own versions of it. I may have to investigate that.

I was chasing the perfect film style with those VSCO presets that were for Lightroom back in the day, and I never found anything that worked for me, it never looked right, it does take a bit of experimentation to get something you are happy with - I'm not boxed in by them though - I have about 30 styles I've built over the years that i sometimes use depending on the shot to get the feel that I want and I've got variations for sunny days, beaches, etc, I definitely see it as part of the whole process!

This photo was taken in Hunstanton last Saturday. I was originally waiting for all the seagulls to fly over me and create some chaos and movement (there were loads on the green and a lot more than ended up in this pic) when this chap wondered in and sat on the memorial - not sure if he was a vagrant or someone on an adventure - he was intrigued by what I was taking a picture of but he just vanished soon after and I didn’t see him again.

Out of season, there is a surreal emptiness to the place. Most of it is closed, with a handful of places that stay open all year around. It’s very run down now.

I'm liking your snapper's shot a lot Mark. While I like your chosen shot for urban, I find the second image really intriguing. I think that I would be planning to go back to this spot to see what I could capture under different conditions.
 
Think you picked the right shot for urban, assume the darkened area was done in pp.
Middle shot shows a bit of history and you got the name right for the last shot.

I'm afraid to say, not a lot was done to that image other than my colour grade and minor adjustments - and you can just see to the left there is a doorway, which sadly, seems to be somebodies entrance to their flat.


This type of civic design is something that intrigues me - that somebody - a human as come up with all of these disgusting buildings now this is a dreadful p*ss soaked alleyway with a door to somebodies home- with that naff light, it must be horrible to access at night (wasn't nice in the day!)....and so many of our towns are like it. Quite a few of my photos to explore that my own way, the horrible stuff people walk by every day and accept., it is fascinating.
