The TP 52 - 2025 Cuthbert's 52 for 2025

Nice set :)

I really like the lighting of your chosen pic, although Mario would also have worked well - he looks very happy :ROFLMAO:

Thank you! I do have I think a more interesting wider shot of that statue, but it was taken before the challenge and I didn’t want to break my self imposed rule of using existing shots - but it wasn’t possible to take it again or even a similar shot because the drapes, curtains and other statue had been moved.

But here it is:

Anglesey Abbey is well worth a visit if you are out that way, so many interesting rooms and trinkets. Gets a bit too busy in the summer and school holidays and sometimes it can feel like a tube train with everyone trying to cram into a small space rather than waiting for 2 minutes lol

Nice - looks like Hermes / Mercury.

Nice shot and think you picked the right one. I was bit confused as have been to Anglesey (Island off North Wales) dozens of times, but not Anglesey Abbey, Cambridge :)

Nice set Mark but the second shot really stands out for me. Love the softness, the grain and the play of light on the statue.

Thank you again everyone, I will make sure I ask about the statues the next time I go! Yep, Anglesey Abbey is a rather odd name... apparently derived from "Angevin" or "Anglesian" - it's one of the few national trust places around here where you can actually go in most of the rooms. Ickworth House, pictured below is a really impressive building but you can walk around it in 20 minutes really.

And a few that didn't make it this week

This is outside a public toilet in Cambridge - no idea if it still works, it looked pretty abandoned. Ideally, this would have looked a bit better centred, but unfortunately how it was positioned on the wall I couldn't centre it without getting a bit of the door in, which was angled and the shadows didn't fall as nicely or was the same colour so it looked off - but I liked out it turned out - I was really drawn to the texture of it - a relic of an era long past.

Lovely - what did you shoot these on?

Thank you Kell - they were all shot on a Canon EOS R6ii with a 15-35 2.8. On some of them I've used a black mist filter and a star filter - nothing special, https://amzn.eu/d/eanKfvJ and https://amzn.eu/d/iBEQK2H just to add the halation and glow. IIRC, on shrubby pic I used both filters - star closest to lens, mist on last to that extra bit of glow.

I like your chosen shot, and personally I think the off centre framing suits it well.

All nice shots but not what I'd call Street Photography.

ONLY 20p though! Bargain :) Most of ours here are now 40p by card only!

I agree - I do feel a sense of moral conflict photographing people in private moments, making them the subject, even if they are in a public space. I’m not saying it’s wrong or that I’d never do it, but the photo would have to be exceptional for me to do so. I did go out to Cambridge on Saturday thinking I could capture something for the challenge but I didn’t see anything that wasn’t in that category so I went for something that was very much a manifestation of the human.

I like it the colour is really nice, I'm with you on street photography, also I find a lot of it to be very poor and quite lazy in a way.

Love your chosen shot, very loose in terms of 'street' photography but it ticks all the boxes for me with that lovely patina, light and colours.

Nice shot - and a great band :angelic:

Great use of light Mark, as always. I really like your work.

Thank you Bill, it’s not for everyone but I love just making the everyday look a bit less mundane.

So for this it obviously would have been better if the sun was on the front of the building, but that would have meant getting up a 4am lol

Great use of a low viewpoint, and having the one wall in shadow really works well

Spooky feel for sure! :runaway:

You've made this work really well, despite the uncooperative sun. Really like your POV.
