Cris_L's 52 - Update - Week 23 and 24

Well I'm very much behind with my 52 but I have not dropped out. I'm in the middle of a shedstudio build and between it and my water leak in the kitchen its taking up ALL my free time (and some work time!).

So this is my week 8 Chaos..if anyoen asks why i have submitted a portrait of a child for chaos then my response is "You clearly have never had a todler in the studio"!!

I will catch up 9 and 10 soon!

Just a piece of perspex....in the image above its giving TOO much reflection due to the dark BG. I could tone it down with a quick burn I guess..

Hi Chris

not really a portrait person so apologies for not commenting more on your work :'(

But had to pop in & say I absolutely love your cat shots , fantastic

Cheers Lynne...i appreciate you popping in to have a look. You should spend more time looking at portraits...what is more interesting than a human and their expressions?!

Hiya Cris,

I really like your photo for week 8, and I can just imagine the chaos caused by a child in a studio

Maria is a really little cutie and I love the way you have captured the expression on her face and the way she is pointing to herself as thought to ask 'who me? ..... chaos ..... never' :D

The lighting and colours are great and bring out so much detail. My only crit would be the reflection .... normally I like a reflection, but in this photo it doesn't sit right for me, and I'm still trying to figure out why.

I think it has to do with the bright colour repeating in the reflection and I think if they were perhaps toned slightly it would give a better definition between main subject and reflection  I don't have any experience in this area of photography so am just expressing what I am thinking when I look at the photo, so I may be very wrong with my interpretation here. However I do think there should be some degree of something because I think a totally black background would be too harsh for such a delicate model.

I hope what I have said makes sense and doesn't sound like a negative, but I am just as much on a learning curve and it would be great to hear what the others have to comment on this one.

Well done though, I think you have once again done a fab job.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Michael..I do love my studio portraits!

But heres a out door one for week 9...Little Liam was asking Mummy MD if we had FINISHed the walk yet as his little legs were tired from climbing these huge steps!

Thanks again! All processing was done in LR, which is unusual or me but getting more and more common. Added vignette, selective dodge and burning, desaturate, contrast etc etc

Nice location Cris ... Worth another visit..:naughty:

MD:thumbs:

Thanks for the kind comments guys...yes MD its a great location..I'm sure with a little time and creativity lots could be achieved!

Well due to my studio build and being busy with other things I've gotten behind, but I am not out!

To catch up I'm going to submit some of my portraits from the past couple of months. they don't follow the theme but I hope you will enjoy and comment all the same. at the end of the day my main objective for the 52 was to complete it with portraits/people shots (including portraits of pets/animals).

here we go...

Nice to see you back with your missing photos. They are all up to your usual high standard. Love weeks 13 and 16

Thanks Ceri....good to be back with these. 13 is a fantastic location, the colour on the rocks is ideal.

16 is one of my faves too, those kids are such characters when they get together.

Hiya Cris,

Long time no see ..... glad to you are back on track

Wow, you have some amazing shots here ... the ones that stand out the most to me are: 15, 16, 13 and 12 (well this one just takes the cake .... it is stunning, only quib is that I think there is a bit too much dark space to the left)

Well done and I can see you have been a busy bee lately.

Glad to see you are back with us.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Dawn, yes I've been busy...lots going on and not enough time to keep up with everything.

Hopefully I can stay on top of things now and get back on track commenting in everyone elses shots too!

Hiya Cris,

Awww bless that is just too cute :)

When I see this photo ..... the song 'Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)' comes to mind :D He looks well comfy there ... and that hat is so

Well done, I love this photo

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hiya Cris,

Oh WOW .... the last photo is absolutely fantastic and I can see how that is your fav from the day.

The catch light in the eyes are spot on and the whole photo have a loving feel about it.

I only have one very tiny nitpick ... and that is there is a white spot far right on the mother's hair that I find a bit distracting, but other than that is is a gorgeous photo.

I enjoy looking at your portrait photos as they are a real inspiration and I learn from each one.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Ah I never noticed that..well done! I wonder if its a reflection of an earring or something...easily removed if it goes to print!

Hiya Cris

Wow .... this is an image that really rings true to my heart!!!! I love it!

A burning fire, crouched in front of ....

The only thing that lets me down are the shoes ..... they don't fit the picture.

But other than that it is spot on

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Chris, haven't seen your thread for a while as I've been away, but I'm so impressed with the quality of the portraits you are producing. Also impressed with the variety of images both studio and outdoors. Hard to choose a favourite as there are so many great images, but for me the week 9 shot is really appealing.

The week 18 is also a winner. Great use of low key.
