Yes
I've been keeping an eye on this lens as I acquire more Amazon vouchers with the hope of buying the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 lens once it reaches my affordability. It's been around £500 for most of the year but has suddenly shot up to £600 for the last couple of months and I've no idea why.

Frustrating as I have about £300 in amazon vouchers and (with the Canon cashback for £50) means I'd be able to buy it for £150 brand new.

Any ideas? Just supply and demand? Or manufacturing issues?

exchange rate

Why not buy the Tamron 17-50 2.8 now for £300 new as the performance is equally as good but half the price?

Prices rise in advance of Black Friday and Christmas. It makes the Sales prices look better.

Some of it will be the exchange rates and other economic factors.

What about the Sigma version ? I've heard good things about it but I'm curious to know other thoughts -considerable savings

Everything is creeping up, all the higher end Fuji glass is at least £100 more expensive than it was a year ago.

Maybe the drop in value of the pound? If they get them from overseas then the cost for them may wel have increased as well.
Balls. Doubt it's gonna improve within the next few weeks.

Yep, good old Brexit

I recall a test done comparing the Sigma, Tamron and Canon versions. The Canon was the best. I think one of the others came a close second. The third was pretty far behind. Hence I wanted the Canon.

Yes, I'm hoping it's this.

I used to use the Tamron 17-50 (non-VC) when I shot Canon and it was an excellent all round lens. I haven't read any direct comparisons but certainly never felt I was lacking when shooting portraits/weddings/landscape with it.

I was looking at Nikon 70-200 2.8 earlier this year and I'm sure they were around £1650 or thereabouts, the same lens is £2000 now :( and that's after a new version has been released

Looks like even grey sources (digitalrev, hdew) are more expensive than amazon.

Might well have to settle for third party lens. :sulk:
