Corky's 52 - WEEK 25 / FREEDOM & RESHOOT

Nicely taken shot. It's clear and the conversion has worked well. The grime on the side and the bits at the front give it that feeling of poverty.

nicely done shot. I particularly like the fact that you've used black and white!!;)

Hi Jon, just catching up :D

Agree with all the comments on the Relationship shot, a spontaneous capture doesn't always let you get the 'whole' picture - as can be seen in my Poverty shot :(, but it's a powerful image nonetheless.

Poverty - doesn't work as homeless but does work as extremely poor. Who would choose to live in those conditions? I really like the mono conversion and the backlighting provided by the sky :clap:

I can't see a door on the side so I wonder if they've joined in the middle, or just parked that wau so no-one can get in? Certainly got me thinking and that's what it's all about

When I saw this weeks theme, i immediately thought "aircraft" as everybody looks up when they hear one. This photo is converted to B+W and PP'd to give it a bit more punch. hope you like it

Jon

well done, I like the moodyness of the clouds and the lights on the towers. The fact that the dirt road gives a rural aircraft feel yet the plane looks like it would fit at stanstead is also a nice touch.

fab

Poverty - I like how you have made this relevant. I see a lot of travellers in their caravans around my home town and it is certainly a lifestyle I see as poverty. Black & white treatment works well and you've captured the shabby appearance of the caravans perfectly.

Up - Not sure about the foreground, I'd have been tempted to crop and just have the aircraft against the dramatic sky.

This is a really punchy shot and I think it would look odd without the foreground. It's also a well captured/processed sky. The only slight niggle for me is the horizon isn't straight. Would that have made the plane look wrong if you'd straightened it a bit? Just a tiny bit short of being a fantastic picture but a good one nonetheless.:clap:

Thanks Bruja....the horizon isn't level, because it isn't ;) If you look at the control tower on the left or the landing lights, they are vertical.

Just catching up, Corky. :)

Poverty: I love the mono treatment of the caravans. You've portrayed the bleakness and basicness (is there such a word?) of living in a dilapidated temporary home. It certainly spells poverty to me. Well captured.

Up: Another excellent shot. The runway lights are great and add an extra dimension to the picture - although, for some reason I think the airplane looks as though it's coming in to land :D - the sky is very atmospheric. You wanted 'punch and you've achieved it in spades.:clap:

Jean

Very good I like that. Very moody and dramatic

great drama in the sky! Would have loved to have seen the aircraft coming towards the camera with that sky behind, but it's not always possible to find the location. Just my 2p obviously!

The day I went to the airport, the shot I wanted was a take off with the aircraft rising over the lights as you described, but sods law says the wind direction was wrong and you could not get a position at the other end of the runway to get a similar shot. Oh well, next time...........

I agree, but you have done such a great B&W conversion I don't think that takes away anything from a excellent shot at all.

I think it's the best shot of this weeks themes, prurely on the fact it's a moving target and you have very little time for composition...

Congratulations...:clap::clap::clap:

Catching up:

Realtionships - lovely natural shot showing real love there between rider and horse :) Nice one!

Poverty: Agree with most of the comments - B&W works, moody shot, grim abode! Works for me!

Up: Up and away :) Nice shot that meets the brief - good sky - part of my head wants the plane further left flying into shot but that's a minuscule niggle so just ignore me :D

Good trio of shots! :D

Really, Really struggled last week with this theme, then was away for Easter hence the delay in posting. So I'm trying to post this "under the Radar" and move on to next weeks theme. BTW , my study board and the types of letter between me and the boss.

The themes seem to be getting more obscure by the week.....and my small ammount of grey matter does not like obscure ;) anyway, to this week. Duo, and my way of thinking...Duo = two of, or a pair of, so a pair of pears if you like!

Jon

Corky loving your letter shot nice interpertation of the theme.

a pair of pears  very nicely taken composition is spot on

ps dotn forget to change the title so we know your pics are there;)

No 14 is a great shot and a also a great take on the theme, well done.

No 15, a pair of pears is also very nice. Agree with Toothie, the composition is pearfect, (sorry :bonk: ) and the lighting colours etc are great!!

Well on the catch up from last week... works really well...

and the pears shot is nicely done...

Sorry I missed Week 14 - it's a great take on the Letter theme and looks really interesting and useful. Nice one. :)

Duo = pair = pear :bang::bang: It's so simple now I see your shot. :bonk:

Nicely composed (arranging 2 objects is really hard, I think!) and executed. They look good enough to eat.

Jean

Your duo pic is well composed and fits the theme well, might have tried wetting the fruit to give it a sheen, just a thought.

thks, I'll bear that tip in mind

Jon, I really like both Letter and Duo. They are both good shots, and clearly fit the theme

Hi Jon, time for a catch up :D

Really like the DoF on the Letter picture, it really draws the eye and is a great take on the theme.:clap:

A pair of pears , lovely composition, good lighting, just a little more sheen on the pears would have caught some light too. Right on theme

Love the letter shot :) Spot on! Lots of detail and right on topic!

A pair of pears - groan! Well it was out of the box and well shot too!

Nicely done!

Thanks for the constructive comments everyone :)

Jon

Nice pair! I don't know if I don't say that enough or too much... Very nice idea and nice shot!!

WEEK 16 - Longing

I seem to be getting bogged down with other projects and work at the moment to be able to give time to this particular project.....BUT, We''ll keep trying. About 3 weeks ago (22 days,11 hours,37mins and 5 seconds....but hey, who's counting!), I gave up the dreaded weed after a customer of mine was rushed into hospital with a very severe stroke, and He, like me smoked heavily. I threw the ciggies out the car window, went to the Pharmacy and bought 200 industrial strength Nicotin patches. A few days later, I rang his Son for an update to be told he was out driving a delivery van!! He came through it with only a slight hand tremor.........And I gave up my beloved cigs for him! As I told him eventually, he could have done the decent thing and stayed "sick" for a bit longer to justify my pain. ......I will get even.

BTW, these nico patches give you some weird and wonderful dreams. I'm off the patches now and doing well. No Cigarettes were harmed during this shoot. The owner removed them to a place of safety!!

well done for quitting  The image is perfect imo, sitting on the garden table as it is not the done thing to smoke inside anymore :)

Well done for getting your shot in when you are busy elsewhere - I feel your pain with work intruding :nono:

I like the composition you have used and it definately fits the theme

Gave up 16 years ago now and although I would never go back to it, I do feel your pain.

The shot itself is fab, The colouring is excellent as is the clarity. well done

Great story and love the pic.

I very nearly shot something similar.

I can REALLY sympathise with your longing, my wife stopped on April 1st and she was a heavy smoker.

I have been off since New Year's day, Its a long tough road but gets slightly easier every step till you no longer think about them.

A strong pic, really looking for somthing to crit. I might have had a reflector(tinfoil?) at the left to kick back in some light and lift the shadow.

Very well done on the pic and the quitting.

Well done for finding the time to get this shot done. Well done for quitting, and well done on a good shot - I like the composition, the colours and the location!

I've never had to go through this particular pain - I've never smoked - but it must be really hard going and to be close enough to the cigs, handling them, arranging them etc must have been hard. You deserve a medal. :D

Yep I remember that feeling giving up the weed, I stopped 20 years ago and still remember not know what to do with myself after eating...:shake:

But it's all worth it in the end...

Oh and nice photo by the way...now bin the props...

Excellent shot, love the composition and the background really sets off the cigarettes :clap::clap:

And well done for quitting too :clap:
