Hello there,
I am thinking about purchasing an SLR in the near-ish future. I have always been a point and shoot man because of the expense involved with SLRs, and was wondering which is the best for an entry level fellow such as myself?
I was looking at the EOS 450D with the extra lens, but I HAVE NO idea if the extra lens is any good, or if this is the best SLR set-up I can get for under a grand.

Any advice? By the way, I am a complete newbie when it comes to photography, so go easy on the jargon.

totally, was out with my father-in-law, trying to convince him to upgrade, he didn't like the feel of the Sony A380 at all, but the Canon 450D he liked and the Sony A500 was much nicer - you need to see which you like
