Conspiracy theories

I'll start a new thread with what I'm going to share, okay? Just letting those following this who're interested know.

Does it involve any of the first 22 men?

I read the other day that rats are to blame for the lack of trees on Easter Island, rather than the islanders cutting them all down to move the 'statues'.
One day, someone will admit that the Moai were living creatures and they ate all the trees! :suspect:

I can't reveal anything about the other 22 men. It's above top secret.

Rats? Where the fork else do rats eat trees!?

The one thing that convinces me that Neil Armstrong actually stepped foot on the moon is, it was the main reason he stated for his mental breakdown after they returned. He kept saying that his life held no meaning any longer after he was the first to step foot on another planet and how could anything he ever did ever top that. If it was all a con I really doubt his mental health problems would have developed as they did. In an interview I was lucky enough to witness (being in the audience of a show) he said "It's an interesting place to be. I recommend it. It's a brilliant surface in that sunlight. The horizon seems quite close to you because the curvature is so much more pronounced than here on earth."

Are you not thinking of Buzz Aldrin?

Nope, Aldrin had his own demons for being second on the moon, but Armstrong was so bad he became a recluse for years. Only in later life did he come to accept what he'd accomplished and open up about it. He did so much before he went to the moon and would talk about it, but afterwards was hardly mentioned for years.

I have read so many books about the American space program including his authorised bio, and none of them say anything about him suffering any kind of mental breakdown.

There are various claims/rumours that Armstrong and Aldrin saw unidentified spacecraft on the moon, observing the landing and moon walk, and that it was hushed up in the interests of 'national security' or some other claptrap. I am slightly interested in this sort of thing, and paranormal activity, but mainly sceptical.

These rumours come from people that allegedly heard the non-public radio transmission between the Eagle and Huston. However in the years since July 1969 no one has ever been able to provide a recording of any transmission relating to that. It's the usual 100% *****.

I think mental breakdown might actually be too strong, it was much less than a breakdown and it was at the time just before he became something of a recluse. It took him quite a while to get over it and start talking about it all again and he obviously overcame the problems in later life as he did quite a few interviews in the end. Suffice to say, after seeing him in the flesh, he was so articulate and honest about everything I fully believe he went to the moon.

Yeah. I know about the "non-public" radio transmission, the two minute loss of communications, and the "secret" interviews that Armstrong/Aldrin allegedly gave to unidentified people years later. I don't think it really matters. A lot of people are curious by nature and conspiracy theories, mysteries and the paranormal can provide food for some interesting discussions. Some even smack of a degree of plausibility!

The "explosives" used, "nano thermite" are just Iron Oxide and Aluminium in the presence of heat.
Aluminium plane + rusty Steel beams/supports + heat of a plane full of fuel burning could easily cause a small scale thermite reaction. It's not a conspiracy theory, it's just chemistry.

The amount of thermite needed to bring down a structure of that scale is laughably enormous.

Also, the Journal that published the paper has a history of letting suprious research through to publishing with no peer review.
It's just bad science that appeals those who like controversy.

Looks like king of the conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, is finding it harder to peddle his rubbish thanks to YouTube, Facebook and Apple amongst others.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

Interesting that the social media sites etc where Jones peddles his rubbish have finally taken action just at the point where he's in court for his Sandy Hook nonsense and his persecution of some of the families.
He's claiming the right to free speech for his actions. Jones went so far as to reveal parents addresses, those who had moved away from the area as those that believed Jone's theories were harassing them.

6 more families have now filed suit against him

No doubt he will claim it's all part of a government consipracy to shut him up, but it'll certainly affect his income from these streams.

I love how the conspiracy theorist regarding the WTC argue that explosives were planted on both buildings and 7 world trade centre, an enormous logistical operation, yet no one saw them and no one supposedly involved has come forward since. If the US gov had actually destroyed WTC themselves, I find the fact that no one has leaked details since 9/11 far more far fetched than the actual conspiracy theory itself.

I remember reading the Was God An Astronaut book and thinking there were some compelling arguments for the case.

.... but that was when you were young and naive and didn't know stuff about science.

[You seem to have left your post unfinished, so I finished it for you. You're welcome.]

Now i'm older and wiser I realise God wasn't an astronaut, just a fictional character like Harry Potter or Santa
The visitors were just advanced aliens who came with technology much the same as the cargo cult worshipped transport planes in the south pacific after WW2

I agree with you. However, when I saw the buildings collapse, my only thought was 'controlled demolition'.

Steve.

I read all of those books when I was in primary school.

Steve.
Me too, fascinated by the cave drawings of people with what looked like space suit helmets and the runway patterns only visible from high altitude.
Still love all that stuff, daresay people felt the same when they read the bible with all the miracles and resurrection business, who doesn't like a good story

Yip. I remember Erich von Daniken's books in the 70s. They were popular at the time and a lot of people took them seriously. I'm not quite sure what I thought, it was a long time ago and perceptions/memories tend to be distorted by what we learn later, even if we're not fully aware of it.

Read the book of Ezekial. There is a good description of a space ship in there.

Steve.

"I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north -- an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures."

Is that what you refer to? Is that the “good description of a space ship”?

Of course, you'd have to believe that whats written in the bible is true.

For me, that passage is just another fairy tale.

Yes. The four creatures being engine cowlings.

Makes more sense than the traditional translation of bible stories.

There be Dragons here :D
But who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory / fairy tale?
