COD: Modern Warfare 2

yeah spec ops is really good. currently stuck on gulag? on veteran. its pretty solid.

well I finally got my copy today, had a quick go online to level up to clantag.
Feel free to add me on PSN- scottyk617

14 hours to complete it in regular and veteran :( its so much easier than COD4 and WaW. Don't like multiplayer, as soon as I run through Special Ops, its on eBay

on an American server. :D

This is exactly what the mass market can't fathom, there are no "servers", IW removed support for dedicated servers. Its all run on a P2P network, which sucks hugely and is a big 'screw-you', to the PC gamers especially.

(That is not to say a Europe-to-America connection wouldn't lag even on a dedi server)

I just don't understand why all the hype. An SP mode which barely last 10 playing hours if you go steady, which isn't all that enthralling because everything is so routine and scripted; too perfect.

Then the MP, which (I don't think) matches the experience in the original COD4:MW, and ofcourse the server problems.

:bang:

It's a flawless game. I'm sorry but pick a fault that really detracts from the game. I challenge you to beat the game on veteran. It is savage. A real sense of accomplishment when you get past a checkpoint.
Routine and scripted? Did you even play any other COD game? That's what it is! It's just one long interactive politically-driven edge-of-your-seat blockbuster action film!

Spec Ops is fantastic too, and that easily gives you another 15 hours on top of SP. Me and a friend spent easily an hour on just one mission on veteran.

How does multiplayer not match up?
It's just COD4 with way more upgrades, guns and new levels... There isn't much different gameplay mechanics wise, there is just tonnes more depth.

I honestly think that this is one of those things that has become cool to hate.
Like the Halo series of games, like popular music (RHCP, G'n'R etc - most people are like "Ew popular music I prefer indie stuff"), like the BNP (most people don't even know what the BNP stand for, let alone why they hate them!) etc etc etc

p.s. for the record, I think that lack of dedicated servers is a shame on PC, because that's what the PC community do. Mod, glitch, hack, and generally don't like playing with anyone that isn't on their forum. I for one couldn't care less.

lol its good cos its scripted and cod games have always had short campaigns its not halo

i disliked halo cos i got lost with cod you cant its just great

I have it now, have played about on SP a bit then straight into online MP.

I see it as more of a expanded COD4- more gadgets/ bling for your kit, new maps and thats about it.

could easily have been an add on pack!

Great game. Prefer it over the first one. I felt that the campaign was too short though as people have said. I also do not like how you now invite your friends (PS3), not sure if it is different for 360 users.

Awesome game though... The Tactical Nuke online looks quite good lol.

I've been playing this almost non stop, or as much as possible around work and uni.
Single player campaign was ok, but multiplayer is where its at for me. Rank 38 or something like at the moment.

If anyone is on xbox360 add me: snuffet

That's amazing :D

Have you seen IGN's top 10 halo 3 kills of the week?

Some of them are brilliant. I wish MW2 had a video option, it would be sickkkk

Just had a look, some great ones there, not sure number 1 was the best though. Number 2, threading the needle was my fav.

Its a real shame MW2 does not have a video option :(

I completed this on the PC and I generally found the game really good. I would rate it up there with COD4 Modern Warfare. I also agree that it is one of those games where it has been hyped so much that it almost becomes "cool" to hate it and rant about it on forums, being overly critical. I found the soundtrack excellent and lots of emotion comes across as you play it. Some of the missions on single player are really well done. The last mission is very exciting to play. I liked the previous cliffhanger mission. I thought that was quite original. In fact, a lot of the missions were original despite having previous COD releases.
The only criticism I would make, is that like with previous COD titles, it is still a very linear game. There are times when you try to be stealth and take the long way around something, only to be blocked because they didn't extend the playable map area to accommodate where you wanted to go. The amount of different weapons is amazing. Some of the special missions you do are quite cool. The plot is great with the very controversial and disturbing mission where you play as Terrorist. I liked the way they tied different stories in together and overall the maps and visuals are great.

You can't really ask for much more from this game and I can't see why it gets so much stick. It was always going to be a follow on from COD4 with added missions. it's more of the same...which means more goodness.

My flat i now devoid of all life- even the fish have gone.

On the bright side I can now play MW2 as much as I like!!

The single player, although short, is dynamic and exhillarating. It really was worth the 4 hours or so it took me to complete (although I'm not sure what that ending credit sequence was supposed to convey??!)

The multiplayer, although also excellent, has been ruined on PC by forcing IWNet down our throats. I initially thought it worked rather well, but since then I've experienced the lag issues on at least half of the games, host migration which rarely works, dropouts, party members not being added to the games, etc, etc, etc. Unless a patch is released soon to address all the issues, or dedicated server support added, I see a large migration to Bad Company 2 in Feb!!

What I want to know though is how good the multiplayer is. Is it anywhere near as good as Counterstrike?

This is probably the best game I have played on the 360 - period!

That or Brink. Both have confirmed dedicated server support and adjustable configs both serverside and user based.

I quite liked the sp, the mp however is shocking, to the point where I have actually uninstalled the game.
Left4Dead2 will keep me occupied for a while. I still have Enemy Territory too which eats up most of my gaming time.
Tbh if I get on with the FragFX for my PS3 I may migrate to that for FPS going forward.

Seconded....

Only this weekend got a chance to play it; OMG, the greatest online multiplayer game I've had the pleasure to go at. Miles better than WAW, apart from the zombies.

Single player really isn't of interest but the Xbox live stuff is superb; the customisable killstreaks is a good idea and the bonuses for getting the crate etc are very rewarding.

Not sure on some of the maps - Afghan, Wasteland to name but two - but Skidrow and Favella more than make up for that.

Loving the TAR and the SCR so far; just busy doing the weapons achievements on these before I crack open the big guns :)

Shame I can't play it at will, what with a little one and the missus to think about, but the waiting makes it all the more appealing. Best £27 I've spent for a loooong time :)

i don't think anything will ever beat counterstrike 1.6 (or beta upwards) for me

Counterstrike is very very good I have to say... although close second has to be Left 4 Dead

MW2? Single player is a bit boring really, I feel like I've just sat through a very long cut scene, its not like I've had to do much thinking really, just endure it?

Last night was the first time I've suffered serious lag problems on XBOX live with this game and it was a real PITA. Not sure what or who was causing it but it wasn't cool.

For me it beats Counterstrike (1.6 and source) hands down.

Reasons:
It's a lot more accessible - if you've not played CS in a while, you literally get dominated on every server. I stopped playing because I played a lot for a while and it was just no fun.
It's a lot more intuitive - It's a lot easier to get started
It's a lot deeper - 70 levels, tonnes of game modes, loads of different guns etc
It has purpose - Kill, plant bomb, die, next game, over and over. Admittedly, that's pretty much what most FPS MP games are like, but with MW2 I'm finding that I constantly am working towards something.

You need to get Trails HD from XBOX live. Amazing fun.

Wicked game.

I love the spec ops on this game, the fact that you can to "proper missions" with a mate online is awsome!

A proper co-op mode is something the COD series has been lacking for a long time.

I'm on university internet, lag is savage.

i have completed this on veteran i honestly dont think it was as hard as the 1st modern warefare

but still enjoyed it just got the 45 intel achiement and the special op achievments to go

One of my mates has got all 69 stars on Spec Ops. Fully effort.

Thats true of any multiplayer FPS - MW2 is only fun because its new, it will become the same old same old very, very quickly.

I think you sold the multiplayer to me mate. I'm off to get this.

It really is fantastic. I've just been playing Team Deathmatch as it doesn't require teamwork (I can't play with my mates because the internet here is crap and won't let me connect with them) but rest assured when I get back home onto some awesome internet again I'll be playing capture the flag and the more objective based games with my chums.

The aiming does take getting used to if you're used to mouse+keyboard, but I personally find the layout of the Xbox controller works better for COD than on the keyboard (possibly because I'm used to xbox...)
