The colours are great, so vivid in the image. I think this would make a great print, as big as you could get. It wouldn't look out of place in a holiday brochure or magazine. What It does portray to me is power and movement and I think this because of the contrails. The jet eflux is very powerful portraying great movement and fast movement, conveying people all over the globe to get their business done or to get to a holiday destination as quickly as possible. I actually really like this, despite you not being entirely inspired.. I think it's beautiful. I love looking out the window at the evening light to see what the sky is doing :) lovely colours!

Stare.... I think you have hit the nail on the head with this shot as you have definately achieved your goal.

Peace.... Love the spur of the moment shot, the evening sun has helped produce a great effect in the sky. Great capture. oh the smaller border is better as well.
 
Week 18 Indulgence/ Close

Given the option of two themes complicates things, do i do one or the other, or do i do both? In order to simpliyfy things i tried to do both together.

Indulgence to me is consuming things to excess or eating things we really shouldn't! i decided to focus on food and sweetness at that. It wasn't that simple too as i decided to create my own chocolate shapes with some melted chocolate and a syringe. Once i started adding whipped cream to the mix it all got a bit messy.

I took the image using my macro lens although the final offering is not exactly that much of a close up.

Chris, I like your image a lot. it is a simple well lit image that is bang on theme. Its very sharp and composition is good too. I also like the processing on it too, the vignette seems to highlight the strawberry too. All round good job. :thumbs: Iain
 
mmmm that looks good enough to eat lol. Looks like something from Masterchef. Nice sharp image.

Wow. Could be a fancy restaurant desert there. Nice imagination.

Photographically, it's a really good shot. I really like that vignette and the shaded background. Looks lovely. The colours look spot on to me, and it's sharp as a pin.

cheers mate, i like the vignette too, it helped create a bit of darkness to the indulgence. I did initially take the image in the dark but i didnt like the way i had it lit and the shadows so i opted for the light tent instead.

thanks mate, i did work in a restaurant for 9 years before my current career choice but i dont think i was that creative:lol: cooking is more for joy now than for a living.
 
Really like that Chris, the vignetting adds to the image nicely.... just think I'd like a teeny more lighter colour in the strawberry.

Lovely lighting and the shadows under the chocolate make it looks like its floating.
 
That strawberry looks too good to be real!

I like this very much. You have put a great deal of thought into the arrangement and composition which work very well, while your lighting with the vignette works beautifully.

Impressed by the work that has gone into this and as a food shot it works really well in that it is making me hungry, the chocolate looks great.

Agree with the comment above that the strawberry could perhaps stand a bit of a colour boost, but would be interested to see a version without the grey vignette as my gut reaction is that it doesn't seem quite right on a food picture.

A shallow depth of field so that the front of the strawberry and cream is in focus with the back sliding gently out of focus might have been an alternative way to add that contrast that you were perhaps after with the vignette?

Doh!!!!!

It does work very well for close and indulgence although not being able to indulge yourself kind of takes the edge of a little. A shot of somebody else taking a bite would have been great too.

thanks Ian, it was great fun setting it all up, i hear you with the alternative dof suggestion but i think i still like the larger dof getting the whole shot sharp:)

I think it's all been said, but to add my 2p - pin sharp, mouth wateringly delicious and well lit.
I'm not too keen on the vignette - I would have preferred it without I think. For me there's enough impact against the white background that you don't need anything else.

You've obviously put a huge amount of effort into it (that chocolate lattice is brilliant) and it's really paid off this week.
 
Super image - I love everything about it, but would like to see the same photo without the vignette as I think it could be better still.

Week 19 Ingredients

Pah what a poor theme, i kept denying i was doing a challenge all week as i couldn't think of anything good to shoot. i've had almost a full week lacking inspiration, until i was backed into a corner on the last day. Anyway moaning aside i have chosen to shoot the heavyweight of all ingredients, and a delightful spice it is too. Worth its weight in gold(actually more i think they say). So here is an offering of the golden yellow!

And now i'm praying for something a tad more interesting for next week and i might try a re shoot tomorrow while i'm out and about.

Beautifully simple and the contrast between the saffron and what it's on really works. Makes it almost abstract in a way.... I too really struggled this week , I suppose thats what makes a 52 fun....:):thinking:




I think not too long back Saffron was more expensive than gold, but gold apparently is at a high.... (Sorry to be anal about it, but obviously I had to go and check... 0.4g of Saffron from Waitrose is £3.49, which equates to £8725 per kilo. Gold though is a whopping £27.17 per gram, so 3 x as expensive)

:lol::lol::lol: thanks for being anal mate nearly 9k a kilo really gives an idea how expensive it is!
I deliberately chose a blue coloured plate as this is one of the best colours contrasting with orange.

Given you said you lacked motivation, you certainly have kept up your stream of good shots for the project.

cheers Pro, i did take a single stamen but to be honest it lacked punch as an image and had more impact as a small pile.
 
Chris, I love both of your last 2 shots. The colours in the ingredients are stunning. I would not have thought to put the saffron onto a blue background but it works really well. I like the lighting too.

I missed last weeks, but what a great indulgence. I cannot imagine setting up that photo and not being able to eat it afterwards! I love the angle, the colours, the lighting and the vignette.

thanks Jenny, i know it was a difficult task not to eat it although thankfully there are a few alternatives to chocolate and cream that are not that bad.
 
Both your last two shots are bloody perfect, mate. Really solid technically and inspirationally.
 
Just love your ingredients shot - the colours of the saffron are sooo beautiful offset on the blue background.
