Hiya folks :) I`m new here, my name`s Feebo (I`ve just done a thread in the welcome section) I have a cloning question for you. When I was looking through the threads on this forum to see if I liked the place (needless to say I was impressed) I saw your self portraits thread. In it were some exellent images, brilliantly inspired! The very next thing I wish to do with my day is learn how one of these cloning shots is done. I thought I could just do it so I gave it a go. I took three pictures using a tripod. One of the room, one of me on one side and then on the other. My plan was to show two examples of myself stood side by side. I`m obviously not quite the cleverclogs I thought I was because I can`t seem to get it right. lol I`m uploading the photos into photoshop CS2 in LAYERS. Then I`m selecting ALL, copy and paste into the next image, keeping one as a base. Now here`s where I`m going wrong, I thought adjusting the OPACITY would give me my result once the images were pasted into each other. I was wrong. All I get is two ghosts of myself. I tried using the history brush but that just gives me a weird finish that makes me look like I`m underwater. Five cups of tea later and I`m still not getting it right. Can anyone help me out please? I was really inspired by those photos and would like to do some of my own ideas......

Cheers, Feebo....

Hmmm.... Although that link is ideal and exactly what I`m after, my controls on CS2 must be a little different to what he`s using which is causing problems. I can`t start off in the same way because when I go to scripts, there`s no option to upload into a stack. There`s a browse option but it won`t recognise my files because it only seems to only want Java script files... There are only two options files wise and they`re both javca scrpit files. I`ll carry on trying but if anyone has any suggestions, fire away! Maybe I need to upload my files into CS2 and save them as works in progress or something in order to have them in the right format? I`m just about to try that....

You can do it very easily by having the two images on two layers. Your initial plan was right, as in you need to adjust the opacity, but it needs to be locally, so each layer is 100% where there is a person, and 0% (for the top layer) where the other layer has a person.

You need to add a mask to each layer, and paint over the area where the other layer has a person in black, so no layer shows there. Hope that makes sense. If not I'll put a PSD up you can download that will show you how it's done.

It does make sense yeah but it`s very similar to instructions I`ve been trying to follow anyway. I`d be very grateful of that psd ! I trie chucking a lassoo around one of me and copying and pasting which worked but was quite obviously a cut out. I knew there must be a way of just turning things up and down and blending certain bits of the images together......

Just put the 2 layers together then add a layer mask to the top image, now paint a "hole" in the mask so you can see the "you" on the bottom layer, you don't need to alter the layer opacity except briefly just to see where to paint (it's easier to see where the bottom layer you is) then put the opacity back up to full.

Thanks Wayne, just about to feed my animals and then I`m settling down for the evening so I can give it a go :D

Thats the way to do it. Nice and easy
