weekly ChickenDipa's 52 week 2012 Colour + Shadow added

they're potatoes but I looked at them and thought 'aww how cute' lol

Joy – I like both these shots. #2 could also fit pride especially if you saw this brave fella talking on TV.

Authority – Well caught up. I can’t believe it took you this long to find a police sign to take a picky of. Out of these I’d go for #1 because of the symmetry (although that was another theme)

Reshoot – Nice shot The blue background suits the colour of the subject well

Small - I like this one. You've captured a nice balance of tones between the potatoes and soil. I must admit I wouldn't crop it further as I quite like the oof soil at the bottom.

Thanks for the comments.

That want even what I wanted for authority, that opportunity just presented itself and I just wanted to get it done.

Thanks for feedback re. potato crop.

Hi Alex. I'm desperately trying to catch up here, so I'll just pick my two favourites from your recent ones.

Moody edit is great work. The original was too flat, but you've lifted it really well.

Joy one I think is great, and works well as you've presented it. I maybe would have liked a border between the two images, but think it works very well.

Alex

Small - like the comp and the pov. Lovely warm, comforting colours - and my favourite vegetable.

Good take on the soil and detail around the small spuds

Thanks! Potatoes are very popular in our house too. These are a homegrown crop (the EU would never let them in that small) and they are so easy to grow. Recommend it!

No worries, hope you get caught up.Thanks for looking :)

A creative, original, fun take on the theme Alex, I like the warm colour tones in your image. The focus point on the small potatoes with the chosen dof really draws the viewers eye into and through the image.
I agree that the soil, empty space in the foreground helps to focus on the small fry at the front. All round great work, I really like this. Iain

Hi Alex
Bit of a catch up. Your really went al out with abstact. The roof shot stands out for me.
Moody - both shots work well, prefer the tweaked version wihich appears to have more depth.
Symmetry, this shows better in the second version through the processing but a bit off colour.
Joy is written all over the face of the torch bearer, shame about bottom right interferring.
Short, an OK shot which fits the theme
Small, I like this shot because of the short dof. Hope they tasted good.

Hi Alex, I'm a few weeks behind!

I like your moody edit, it looks much better now.

Joy 1, kids love nothing better than launching themselves off things! I agree a border would have helped.

Joy 2, considering you were jostling for a spot you've done well. He looks so happy. I know you can't help the background but have you tried a crop just to get rid of the woman in the left with the very pink phone? Or just desaturating her phone so it's less obtrusive

Authority, both work well for the theme. I prefer number one, it's almost symmetrical!

Short, nom nom nom, I would possible consider cropping the bottom left when the cloth falls away slightly. Nice lighting though. Did you try them on other backgrounds?

Small, what cute potatoes you have! Nice lighting and DOF. Again I would crop (I think I have a cropping problem!) tighter to remove the top left corner.

Hi Alex, sorry I've not been around in a while.
Your tweak of moody works better than the original and stand our from the latest bunch.

Abstract was in the bag last year, I thought I'd struggle, but when you look there are various things that suit, you've a collection of things there.

Love the DOF on the potatoes.

Thanks Iain, very glad I kept the soil at the front of the shot in.

As a picture, it's growing on me slowly. Great dof though, concentrating on the 2 small fry at the front and certainly on theme.

Thanks, the more I look at it the more happy I am with it. Which is rare for me!

Thanks, and thanks for catching up! Short is still just an ok shot, but better than my original! They taste very good, recommend growing them and they last ages once picked!

Hello, thanks for looking. Know you are a busy bee at the mo. The crops of the potatoes just didnt work for me but it is one of those shots that I think could work from differing angles. Thanks for the comments!

Np, you are welcome to stop by any time! Abstract was a funny one at first, really struggled but then it just hit me..only the rain stopped me :D

:D @small... an interesting and very clever interpretation. I really like how you've done it, the warm tones, and the DOF suit perfectly.

How did I miss small? I LOVE it; the tones, the composition, the DoF, the connection to the theme; all wonderful. I hate you for it!!!! (not really).

Like #1 for the quirky pp. #2 may have benefitted from lower angle or longer view of the path. Both meet the theme

Hi Alex

You certainly caught the look of joy on the flame carriers face...great expression...well captured ,especially given the amount people there

Liking your tweaked version of Moody...great detail in that sky

Small ...what a brilliant yet simple idea...can't fault it

Straight...both images right on theme , the pp style is growing on me ,#2 maybe a lower pov so you get led in to the distance ?

Keep up the good work

Number 1 for me in straight not really sure about the PP on either not really my thing though .

Loving what you've done to these. I especially like #1 with the almost damaged or scratched feel to it. Good stuff

I agree. Liking the mysterious and somewhat Silent Hill feel to this one. I'd prefer portrait orientation, though, bit too much room left and right.

Cheers.

Thanks for the comments Michael, John, Lynne, Allan, Andy and Marsha. Also sorry I have not been around. Have had a very hectic few days!

Take on board the comment about being lower in #2, was crouched down already and due to wet floor was not going any further!! (was away from home with only 1 pairs of jeans).

Snapseed always makes me do something different with pictures so enjoy using it from time to time. Has some nice features.

I have an idea for letter and an idea for contrast so will get that sorted this week. Though its another busy one, off to flyball with Terry and picking up a new doggy on Friday :D

Straight, interesting... prefer 1 to 2, 2 needs to be lower down... but both fit the theme... rather liking the processing on 1. Not played around too much with that bit of snapseed... will have to at some stage soon.

Thanks John for popping in. Snapseed is interesting I cant help but do a little different pp'ing on it.

Here is my letter(s) submission. I spotted this letter box on the way to our dog walk and finally took the camera with me today. Not come out quite as I envisaged but still I like the results. I really wanted to get an outdoors shot and not do a table top one this week.

Another one with a little different pp'ing...I am lethal once I start messing around

Theres a couple more on Flickr :)

Hi Alex,

For Letter, I prefer #1 (the ink filter edit). I was going to do something similar for my Letter photo (when I get around to it -- still trying to catch up!)

hi Alex
I am drawn to #1 for the pp'ing, I do like that gritty high contrast feel to it. It really brings out the detail in the stonework.
But I think I am equally drawn to #3 too, as it gives it a sense of place IYSWIM. By taking a wider shot brings in the lovely curve of the wall and the flower border too. Keep going with your catch up, you're nearly there. Iain

Hi Alex,

Just to be difficult... I like the brick wall in 1 but the letterbox in 2. That said I prefer 3 overall; it gives a nice context to it. The only niggle, to me, is the sign on the wall, but that's not really within your control :)

Thanks for commenting, good luck on the catching up. I just do not know where the weeks go!

Hi Iain! Thanks for stopping by. I did think of you when doing that particular pp'ing :-) My inspiration! I have the ideas just need a nice relax evening to get into the mood :-D

Number 1 for me, I really like that processing. Does it need a straighten? Or is it just me?

It may need a bit of a straighten though one of the other shots I did I kept trying but nope it was apparently straight. I think the outter edge and the wall is just wonky. It made my eyes go funny in the end :bonk:

Hello! Think I might have got into trouble if I had started pulling signs off the walls :naughty: thanks for the comments

Have to agree with vicky a mixture of 1 and 2 would be good

Interesting pp in #1, I like it, however, I much prefer #3, the context and the flowers help bring it all together nicely.

Hi Alex

Straight - #1 is excellent, although it made me smile as that 'old' feel that yuo have applied brings to mind many of the 30 year old photos in my albums. :D. Imaginative and different take on the theme

Letter - on theme. Like the processing on #1. But #3 has potential I feel for a slightly different angle to include some of the flowers but exclude the sign an double yellow lines.

I also like the processing of #1. You've given it a nice feel to the wall. I would agree that it just needs some straightening at the bottom to improve.

Hi Alex, I also like the processing of #1 but think I prefer #3 with the flowers, I like the curve of the wall and the added interest with the flowers!:)
