weekly ChickenDipa's 52 week 2012 Colour + Shadow added

Alex industry left me uninspired and I wasn't happy with anything I took either.

Onwards and upwards, a new theme tomorrow:thumbs: I'm up in Barnsley this w/e so fingers crossed I can catch some northern inspiration!

I am sure you will! We'll be sorted if its anything related to rain as its meant to pour down.

Are you heading any where specifically inspiring?

Hi Alex

love your 2nd shot for Industry...those light colors hit the spot for me & make Industry seem really interesting

Root...nice set of imahes & very unsual find...think Posiview mentioned the slight oofness ...think it's #2 for me...nice spot of color in the leaf & the tree in the background make it work

Thanks! I just wish I could have had a bit more of a free run of the place to get some better shots.

Was very glad of the sunshine then, could have been a very different shot otherwise!

Wow. The colour industry is fab. I think I'll have to go there for a go at that.
I think the root 3 edit is the best. Lots of detail and some nice tones.

Thannks, was aiming for that with #3. Enjoyed finding that tree, was a nice find for the theme.

I like your industry shot's. Bakery one for me. personal though as it was my late Fathers trade. That sounds daft for picking the picture, sorry about that!

Root's are good, I like the B & W

Hello Alex,

Apologies for taking so long getting around to your thread! Here's my thoughts on the most recent weeks:

Industry - Different, on theme and interesting.

Root - Bang on theme of course, but for me personally they are a little messy and there's no real point of interest. If I'm being too harsh, feel free to give me a virtual slap!

Hairdressers tomorrow;-) So a theme like 'sharp' would be well received!!! It looks like it should be sunny on Sunday so we may dump the kids on the grand parents and head out, my hubby is from up here so I may use his knowledge and look for some more industry too!

OOoo edit 1 for me... there is lots to see but not too much, the bit of colour helps it for me :)

Thanks! Always interesting to see what appeals and what doesnt! Been a split week on opinion :)

No probs, if that one speaks to you then thats great. Thanks for the comments

Haha no virtual slaps, we all like different stuff! I liked it because it was a bit messy and gave an extra dimension.

Hi Alex,

Industry - I think the colour shot of the neon workshop is my favourite and what a great idea!:)

Root - #2 of the root is my favourite, I like the lighting on it, at first I thought the leaf was distracting but now like the extra colour it brings to the shot.:)

It was good to be able to get out and take some shots outdoors for a change though I think this week will bring us back to indoor again!!

'Root' i'm a big fan of monochrome and really like number 3. I am enjoying your work Alex

Thank you, glad you are enjoying it. I'm loving the challenge so far. Thanks for commenting.

The neon workshop place was great, so much potential there for a shot. May ask if there is a chance of that at some point.

Was great to get out and take some outdoors. Had to be tree roots for me as I was going to the woods that day and was determined to nail it then!! Though I do feel like they have been my weaker shots so really must try this week!

As you say, back to the table top this week.

Hi Alex, just catching up on some feedback ..........

Industry - I like #2 of the neon workshop set. The colours set the picture off nicely

Root - Again #2 for me because of the nice lighting although I keep jumping to the B&W - I like that one as well.

Hello

Thanks for the comments. The colours have worked quite well with the neon workshop one, really didnt think it would work when I took it.

I've settled on the colour one but have the same thing with the B&W, I do like a nice B&W.

Not competition material though :)

I am definitely going to go homemade tomorrow. I just do not know where the time has gone!

Well done alex, I love the colours on the beads and your use of lighting which allows the plyers to be seen but not take over is great! The plyers pull the picture together to fit the title handmade!:)

Looks good to me - spot on DOF and nice muted colours. Mike

Thank you! :)

I was just going to do beads at first but soon as I had the plyers I knew I had to have them in as well. Brings the theme together. We are all about the lighting in our house at the moment!! Thank you :)

Does that mean Jon will be looking at buying you some lights soon!;)

This is lovely Alex. I really like the colour tones in the beads, the lighting is great too and the inclusion of the pliers pulls the whole composition together.
This could be a product shot, I can see this in a glossy magazine advert. Great work all round. Iain

Hi Alex,

I love the lighting on the beads and the DOF, they really stand out. The pliers also add to the handmade without causing a distraction.

Can I ask how you lit this? Is it all as shot or any PP to help?

Cheers.

Marsha.

Hi Marsha, I use two flashes, one to the left and one to the right. I think the left one (my left) had a softbox on. I did tweak in Photoshop but not loads as I am not very good with that side of things yet!

Thanks for the comments.

Thank you, it came together better than expected really.

I was a bit stumped by money, a few of my ideas would require a big favour from a nice bank manager so I went with this. We went to Cuba on our honeymoon and we 'smuggled' out some pesos. I like the note because of it colours, Jon suggested that I iron the note but I like the creases so they stayed.

Quite like handmade and the DOF is just about right. I wonder if a different composition would improve? Having the handle of the pliers at the bottom left or right and leading up, with the beads across it? Maybe...

Money, letterbox works well and unironed is much better. 3 pesos is a strange ammount.

I've said elsewhere...for me, I don't know, it feels too literal with just the note there.

BTW, Cuba....ggggrrrrrrr :D

Cheers.

Thanks for the comments Andy, good thinking on the composition. May try and try that at some stage.

I did not want to do literal and if it was just an English note I do not think I would have. Inspiration was a bit lacking this week and time was a little short so had to go with this one. Was meant to be the back up shot.

Cuba was amazing and I will definitely be going back at some stage!

I like the colours in there. The crop works very well.

Thanks for the comment!

good shot for handmade really nice colours

Thank you, was pleased with the beads and how they have come across.

I really like handmade. Great colours and DoF.

I like money too. There's nothing wrong with literal; if you use a week to get the best possible shot of a literal subject, learning technically instead of artistically, that's great I recon.

And this is technically a great shot; spot on colours, exposure, focus and background. It'd make a great catalogue or auction shot if the note had any value!

Point well made. Thank you.

You are right, it was good playing with the lighting and settings etc and then playing with photoshop to see what can be done there.

Thanks! :D

Hi alex playing catch up

Root -i'm pretty sure i recognise that tree ;);) nicely taken and am very drawn to the b/ w

Handmade - very nice, the colours are very deep and rich, you've nailed the DOF

Money - yes its literal, but its well taken and spot on the theme

Hello

Haha you probably will recognise it! Taken at the lovely Seckar Woods :)

Thanks for the comments. Going to Crufts on Friday so hoping to get 'win' there, if not....I'm a bit stuck! May get Terrys Good Citizen rosettes out!

You'll need something long for crufts and the lighting is atrocious
