weekly Chevin's 52 for 2022 .... Week 42 ... Precision

You learn something new everyday!

Love the lighting and the detail. Personally I'd have liked a touch more space in front of the whiskers at the RHS, but that's probably just me being weird.

Thanks for the kind comment Nick. I shoot images at full frame and very rarely crop, an old habit I reckon. I did see that the RHS whiskers had gotten too near the image edge, but in the set of stack images they were well inside the edge the edge. I take an 8 image stack and process in-camera, the resulting jpeg seems to "grow" by 10% ... don't know why though

I've seen a pike caught on something similar but much more basic - a cat toy tied to a hook! Certainly an unusual object, well shot.

Thanks Nod ... I've caught pike on imitation perch flies and other gaudy flies and carp on dog biscuit imitations

A wee bit late this week as I've not been feeling very well.
Went to an ancient sessile oak wood looking for textures and wild flowers and took these images
The bluebell are just and so coming into flower and they'll look well in a few days ... another excuse to go back there.

Lesser Celandine

Lovely shots Duncan. I like the bark ones and the lesser Celandine is well captured too.

Nice shots Duncan, you chose the right one to post in the main thread.

A nice set. My choice leans to the celandine.. it pops out at you.

I would have gone celandine too Duncan. Light is perfect on this one.

Nice work Duncan. The first is the best one for me too.
Thanks Pete

Thanks Helen & Peter ... I must admit I did prefer the celandine image however I went for the wood anenome as Mrs Chevin liked it the most and it's best not to argue :p

Technology - A really interesting back story and a miniature marvel of engineering. There was some very clever people about years ago who didn't have the advances we sometimes take for granted today.

Discarded - Looks like the ground is encompassing the tyres, it's a sad reflection on today's society that you don't need to struggle to find all manner of discarded rubbish.

Flora - Really nice flowers accentuated by the lighting.

Unusual - There is no doubt that meets the theme, there is always something new to learn about on here.

Snappers Choice - The Lesser Celandine jumps right out to me and is my favourite of your set.

Trees - I'm assuming the planted trees have a narrow footprint, they appear very close together. Good to see the established and younger trees captured in the same photo.

Good thinking certainly fits the theme. They do seem to have been planted very close together but I guess they know what they are doing.

Tends to be a "survival of the fittest" situation - plant lots and let nature sort them out! Some will fail, some will get munched and a few will make it. In the meantime, the roots will help stabilise the ground.

That is good to see and different from all the other shots I've seen. The other trees give it scale and you've chosen a lovely day to take the image.

Nicely done - a good take on the theme.

I like how you have included the large tree on the left, good shot!

Lots of new trees. Meets the theme well.

Thank you for the kind comments. Did you spotted the soaring Buzzard in the shot, blasted thing wouldn't come any closer, it was just stooging around enjoying the day.

Thanks for the comments. The area has been predominantly planted with Hazel, Silver Birch, Rowan, Hornbeam & Alder, interspersed with Oak, Ash & Beech.

No I hadn't spotted it, but I have now :) What a shame it didn't come nearer!

A good take on the theme Duncan and good image. I didn't see the buzzard either.

Another one that didn't see the buzzard... I can see lots of trees though :)

Catch Up ... Hole

Exotic Hole ;) ... it's Italian

Nice closeup. It give the impression of power without having the whole vehicle in the frame. You could almost use this in the current theme,

Looks like it might make a lot of noise....
Nice shot.
It sure does :). Thanks for the comment Simon

Thanks Bill, it's a gorgeous looking and sounding motorcycle.

I'm with you on your chosen image Duncan. The trees in silhouette work well for a subtle sunset image.

Either image fits the bill. I'd struggle to choose :)

Edit: That is an exotic hole - Ducati? I like the contrast in the red and teal background. Liking the shiny metal too :)

Thanks Simon ... it was quite a strange sky at twilight and I just thought that an under exposed image might work

This is nice Duncan, I think that you made the right choice.

Thanks again Bee ... much more exotic than a Duc ... it's a MV 750 4S developed into a Daytona race bike from 1970. Would be in my dream garage but @ £80k I'll currently have to pass

Could always go for one of the modern MVs - but watch out for it boiling its rear brake fluid (among other nice little design touches!) Still half fancy a Brutale but can't help feeling that it would kill me in a week!

Modern MV's aren't designed for the fuller figure, plus Mrs Chevin would be off looking for a solicitor if I bought a road bike ... so I'll stick with my Bultaco Sherpa and carry on dreaming

Week 19 ... Sport
Caught up :)

Dominos is a sport and if the Jamaican Domino Federation had there way it would be an Olympic event :D

Well it a game :)

Nice Black and White-o-chrome :)

Liking the plan view, and well captured. I'm curious as to whether you spent ages on the composition or if you just played and that's how it turned out ? :) The extra loose pieces add to it.

Thanks Oy ... alleged difference between a sport and a game is the physical aspect ... having seen enough domino games descending into a boxing or all-in wrestling match ... it's defo a sport ;)

Thanks Bee ... This game was totally staged and played with 7 dom's in each hand. Playing the five/two stitched up the game so no further dom's could be played ... on the count-up the double blank and blank/one beats the blank/two.
