Hi All...
My apologies for taking so long to respond to this thread and dragging it up a month past... But I very much needed to come here and thank you all for the compassion, time and consideration you gave to an 'unknown' lad and his family...
The last thing I could do for him really was to ensure his funeral was a darn good day that truly reflected his character... There were more Man United tops and scarfs than you could shake a stick at and it will probably go on record as the scruffiest funeral going with the world and their army turning up in casual, bright clothing... 'Sombre' did not come visiting that day... It was perfect...
His eulogy made mention of all the cards he received for his birthday and the pleasure it brought him... That so many people from literally far and wide could come together and take a chunk out of their busy days to think of a young lad and stick a card in the post was something truly amazing... I don't think I'll ever be lucky enough to see such a thing again - we were very privileged...
I received some lovely condolence cards from members on here and again, I thank you for letting my boy creep into your hearts...
He had a requiem mass followed by a cremation and the final song at the crematorium was Wheatus' Teenage Dirtbag... It was a fairly fitting exit for a scamp of a teenager who loved the track and definitely raised a few giggles with everyone there...
He fought the longest of battles for a little too long and just aimed to wake up every day no matter how difficult it was... It was hard to watch but I'm proud of his spirit and proud of the son who touched so many people in his own little way...
This is a lovely photo of Chris taken just after Christmas... He wore that smile from the cradle to the grave... And he taught me a lot along the way...
Thank you all again and a special thank you to Marcel for allowing the original post that generated so much support... He has left a huge void but knowing how many people cared goes a little way towards softening it...
