Cecil The Lion...killed

Why do you hope he loses everything. What had he done to you?

My view is thus. A lion would kill you or I in a New York minute. Lions do not care about human welfare. One less lion in the world is a triumph, not a tragedy. They are cruel and savage beasts, they kill other lion cubs of different male lions if the male dies.Look at how they live. They are truly awful savage creatures.

A tax paying American is being vilified for having a fun holiday and doing us all a favour. That's the tragedy.
Setting aside the subjective matters of morality and whether hunting is right or wrong. The very simple fact is that what he is alleged to have done is again the law, and not just that the knock on effects of what he has done are severe for what is an endangered species.

He is not being vilified for going on a holiday, he is alleged to have purposely broken the law.

These things breed, the species will not die out.
Out of all the stupid and most demonstrably wrong things you've posted on here, that was one is by far and away the winner.

Bravo.

Have you considered going on tour?

Today is the International Day of the Tiger ... we have lost 97% of all wild tigers in a bit over 100 years.

Apparently all Cecils cubs will get killed by the new dominant leader all 6 of them.

Yep when a new lion takes over a pride he "cleanses" the old gene pool.

yeah poor show, but hey that yank dentist can display his head on the wall and get his knob out at the country club !

Meanwhile in other news from Zimbabwe human rights abuses continue on a massive scale each and every day with people being beaten, tortured and murdered, whilst others starve.....

Just out of curiosity are you involved or part of any group, that protest against human rights abuses

But more seriously, and I'm certainly not defending the actions of the so called hunter in any way, shape or form, however
I'm surprised that at a reported age of 13 Cecil still had a pride of lioness's,
and quite frankly had the energy to defend them from a young pretender, without some human intervention.

Lions can expect to live to 14 years in the wild, but 8-10 years would be more normal due to the territorial battles.
Although it seems he was "lured out" of the reserve before being shot.

And yet when I tried this after becoming president of my local bridge club, all hell broke loose.

Not quite the grand slamming with the ace of clubs they were expecting?

Quite. I promised them a membership drive and succeeded in driving away most of the members.

True, but I've seen a couple of SA reports suggesting that he was in a coalition/reproductive alliance with a younger male called Jericho. That happens occasionally, and might explain why an ageing patriarch was able to hold his pride. I don't think there are any fences between Hwange and the area where he was killed, so he could have been lured out of the reserve as reported. There are a couple of ways to do this.

Thats interesting, I've never heard of anything like that before, seems a little strange too,
However,

I guess it might also :)

Exactly and Lions have had a similar crash in numbers and are threatened mainly by loss of habitat and conflicts with farmers
Stupid buggers shooting them don't help matters tho

Stupid buggers? Ignorant c***s is how I'd put it myself. (Hope the sweary filter catches that one!)

(Phew, it did!)

What's the betting that no action is taken against the dentist himself due to the technicality that he was relying on his local trackers and the kill took place outside the park boundary.

Hopefully not, the evident is being to show he new very well what was going on,and with Obama on his Africa tour telling African about their need to end corruption its not going to look very good,if an rich US citizen seem above the law :(

Thats true, he may just have taken the wrong "opportunity" to do this ;)

Possibly, I don't think that is much of a defense though when he saw that big sattelite tracking collar on its neck ;) Nor the fact that if this was done in the name of 'game management' $50K surely must seem incredibly cheap to such an experienced hunter.

going by his previous conviction it's a likely story

Nothing absolutely nothing. Just like the lion had done absolutely nothing to him. Didn't stop him though did it. So I hope he loses everything. The lot, living on the streets. Even that would be too good for him.

By the way, you don't contribute to this forum, you just p*** people off with your morally bankrupt attitude.

Listening to the news on the radio earlier seems the locals aren't happy and likely to boycott his business

I have to disagree.
He can be a muppet, but his landscape images are wonderful.

And, as an aside, whose morals are the benchmark?

Gaz you do realise that the OOF "gang" must of had a meet up at some point and shared a packet of jaffa cakes :jaffa: :hungover: :ROFLMAO:
Looks like you have just become a Lion :D

There's no conspiracy, just a general rule that freedom of speech is respected unless you cross a pretty liberal line.
The views he's expressed here, whilst ... ahem ... challenging, are no more extreme than those from the anti-hunting "string 'em up" lobby.

Well I will happily be one of the endangered species rather than join the "we are the dominant species and because we can we will" brigade.

I don't have to admire a persons character and morals to admire their photography. Not that I am saying I admire his photography anyway.

As for a benchmark. Not mine and certainly not his or anyone else's that find this sort of behaviour acceptable.

However,

Yip, but I've heard of it before. Coalitions are more common amongst Cheetah brothers, because the cats aren't very powerful and cooperation let's them tackle larger prey, but male lions do occasionally form alliances within a pride. There's usually a senior and junior partner, and the reasons probably include enhanced hunting capability and territorial domination, and possibly shared reproductive rights. The last part is controversial and isn't fully understood.

You said he doesn't contribute to the forums.
You are wrong.
You may not like his opinions, but that still leaves you wrong.

And I'll take your comment about morals seriously when you can answer the question.

So presumably Jericho will now take over the pride, but the question is will he allow Cecil's cubs to live, and will he need to form another alliance with another male in order to keep on top of the pride ? (plus of course will he in fact succeed or will he find that without cecil he is displaced by a third lion ? )

It will be intersting to see what happens next in terms of pride dynamics

I'm about to have a rant; here goes.

After the killing of Cecil, the African lion, there has been much outcry against such activities. Most of the 'hunting' is carried out to provide finance for nature conservation in Africa and so long as the money gets to the right place then I suppose it's something we have to live with.

However...

...what sort of sick b*****d shoots a lion then poses by the side of it smiling as if they've done something brave?!

It is said that 14 million Americans go 'hunting' but what do they mean by that? What it means is that they have gone out in their cars and wandered into a controlled environment with a high-powered rifle and under the instructions of an experienced guide, are shown when and where to open fire.

This is not hunting, it is slaughter.

If you [Americans] want to go hunting then you should take off all your clothes and wander into the woods armed only with a stone knife. Come out with a dead bear and you can say you are a hunter, otherwise you are just a killer and there is no pride in that.

I like America, I like a lot of Americans but, to be honest, some of them make me sick.

A very good rant, you could also have said ' what kind of sick b-----d tries to kill a Lion with a bloody bow an arrow only wounding it, then spends
40 hours tracking it before having to finish it off with a rifle. 'Sick b-----d' I can think of a lot worse than that to describe the dickless piece of s--t.

Only just heard that on the news, absolutely disgusting, is this going to be the new way of murdering these animals, what next an elephant with a crossbow :(

In fact, the majority of yanks who hunt do so with no professional assistance whatsoever.
They simply load up the pick-up with guns, ammunition, beer and their mates and head off into the woods.
For some animals they require a licence (bears, cougars, bighorn etc.), but for most they do not; it just needs to be in season.
