So presumably Jericho will now take over the pride, but the question is will he allow Cecil's cubs to live, and will he need to form another alliance with another male in order to keep on top of the pride ? (plus of course will he in fact succeed or will he find that without cecil he is displaced by a third lion ? )
It will be intersting to see what happens next in terms of pride dynamics
Could be any of the above. Defending 'ownership' of the pride is probably one of the reasons for lions forming coalitions/reproductive alliances in the first place, where there is significant competition. We'll see. Incoming males killing cubs, to bring the females into season, does have the positive effect of preventing inbreeding and improving the gene pool.
