Daily Carol's 365 from 12th December 2012 - A Year of Happiness

Thanks Vince :) Tried to get just the flower in focus rather than all the leaves etc around it ... seems to have worked okay for a change

Thanks Sarah and T :D

Thanks Ferj ....... bring it on as soon as possible :D

Love the yellow next to the background colours and the dof is beautiful :D

Just catching up. Like the 'splash landing'. The blackbird looks a bit sorry for himself in the rain and lovely to have a reminder of spring with the daffodil.

Now I'm off to have some oranges..!

Thanks Toni :D

Thanks Lynn :D

Today I was going to go out even if it was hailstones and gale force winds! I needed to get out of the area for a change so off I went to Cleveleys for a walk around and to look especially for this monument. I had seen it on someone elses feed on FB and decided I was going to find it .... turns out I have walked away from it so many time and never even noticed it was there :(

The Monument was erected to remember all the ships that have run aground and been wrecked along the Fylde Coast. It was placed on the Promenade in front of the spot where The Riverdance ran aground in 2008 ..... I did have some shots of that when it was being broken down but can't find them anywhere now :(

This is a tryptych of sorts as the borders are two different shots to show the wording along the edges of the monument

Thanks Jake :D It was a pain if I'm honest about it - very tall and if you stand too far back you lose the meaning of it all and the names just show as a mess, too close and you lose everything else plus it isnt straight ..... it is angled and you have to be sat inside the promenade wall to be able to get it right  Glad you like it :)

Love the citrus, they're so bright and fully of juice they just brighten up the day  cannot wait for some good daff displays this year, today's looks interesting, would be really cool to get he sun shining through it

Thanks Matt :) If we had sunshine I would have caught it but.... this is Blackpool and if the sun shines it means we've gone elsewhere on holiday  I did try to get the Tower through it but it lost a lot of focus and looked terrible and the same with trying for one of a jogger on the water line :(

Hey Carol, a little catch up again....

Being honest hun the geese shots don't work for me, :( sorry, but hey as with most of us the 365 is all about learning, and as Philip said, for those kind of shots, put the camera in shutter priority, fair play to you though for wanting to use manual mode more .

Now the blackbird shot is a good en, works really well with the rain in the background, and your selfie shots are really really good, like the idea behind them too, and you've shot them superbly.

The lemon triptych works so well, I can see that on a wall in a cafe somewhere, the vibrant yellow works great against the black background, and nice shot of the daffodil too.

Liking today's shot of the monument too, you've taken a cracking shot of something that looks difficult to shoot

That's a beautiful monument and you've shot it really well. Good job, Carol :D

Thanks Simon for all the comments :D Have learnt now that I should use the Tv more than Manual - always learning :D
The lemon tryptych - thanks again ... was so bored I did orange and mushroom as well

Thanks Toni - I was determined to get out there today and find it come hell or high water (latter was close to it by the time the rain started  )

Tomorrow I am back in Wolverhampton for a venue and then Saturday we have the All Nighter at the Winter Gardens so looks like the next two days will be POTDs to do with dancing :D But yet again I may just take a wander around the Winter Gardens and take some of the architecture - depends if I can get away .... (cig break as an excuse maybe  )

Great job on today's, I love it....and what possibilities for different angles through that hole with different skies and weather behind it! Store that one up for a revisit!

I really like how you've used the edges as borders - very creative - though the angle is annoying me - I'd want to straighten it - but then the horizon would be out!

Enjoy the all nighter - that at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool? I've danced there once - lovely venue! I'm off dancing again this weekend and this time I'll have my camera so will have some dancing shots possibly too. Have a great weekend!

:plusone:

I think its great to explore our local area so well done and you did well to make an interesting image of something that can sometimes be very nostalgic and important but boring photographically (thats a compliment, not sure if it sounds like one though!)

Like the monument Carol, as has been said, lots of possibilities there.

Todays POTD is a tired one as I am tired out already and still got tonight to go yet  Spent the day driving to Wolverhampton, then the venue at night and then driving home after it and dropping friends off on the way ...... eventually got in at 5.00am, photos on computer while we had a coffee and then bed about 6.15am ... up at 11.45 as some friends are coming to ours for the Winter Gardens tonight (I'm getting to old for this lifestyle  )
I took some shots on the way - moving car again but not bad on some of them. The venue is a wonderful place but my camera (for some reason) does NOT like it and will not take a good shot there as much as I plead and beg it to :( I tried Tv, Manual, Auto, On board flash, separate flash, everything and still nothing brilliant :( ...... I set the camera up before the venue got into full swing, took some shots, checked the flash was working right and everything was fine but when I picked it up a while later to take some they all came out blurred  Hadnt touched a thing and nothing had changed Re: lighting etc.... just didnt want to work

So I have settled for this shot of some sheep in a field (while we were stuck in a traffic jam on the M6) and an outtake of OHs Sacred Box - well one of them.

Outtake: The Sacred Box

Nice one carol!!!

Really love the sacred box.... Nice lighting

Carol, I've photographic proof that on at least two day's last year there was sun in blackpool ;) not really sure about the two most recent ones, I think that the sheep would work but for the fence

I do like that tryptch Carol, very unusual and I agree with Matt, shame you couldn't have lost the fence in the front - nice mono conversion though, really suits it.

I like the sheep in the field - and it's so much harder when you are sitting in a car with little room to move to get a shot as you would have done without that restriction. :)

I know you said it was an out-take, but I really like The Sacred Box!

Thanks Trace, Matt and Vince :)

Thanks Sarah and Sam :) Yes the fence could have done to be out of it but thought the sheep would be a little too close to the bottom of the shot ... but will try it and see :) That Sacred Box is one of 3 holding 300 records each  and we take them all to each venue as he never knows what he is going to play until we have heard what the other DJs have played and seen what everyone likes dancing to (each venue is different depending on the area of the country we are in

Well I managed to sneak out for about 5 minutes in between everything and went around the Ground Floor of the Winter Gardens and the entrance. I wanted to get a shot of the Dome from inside but I had take the wrong lens out with me and knew if I sneaked in I would NOT get out again lol

I managed to get a few but loved these lights that are just off the main entrance hall - I tried editing it to get a bit more detail but no luck unless I made the lights so bright they looked terrible :(

The Spanish Hall is a beautiful part of the Winter Gardens where we hold the Northern Soul All Nighters in February and September - there are 2 other rooms as well for Modern and Motown (held in the Harry Potter Room which I intend to get another time)

The ceiling is draped in white satin type material and all the walls are painted in an old Spanish style. In each corner is a little town setting and some of the houses have little lights in the windows. This looks great when the main lights are dimmed. I managed to get a shot of three of the corners and put them together for todays POTD

Hey Carol, the sheep in the field shot really works well, maybe just a little play with the contrast to give it a little bit more punch, still a good shot.

Now the sacred box I really like, the lighting is spot on and dof too . Bring back fond memories of my day's DJ-ing, carrying round boxes of records, decks, amps, speakers, lights etc. Lol last weekend went to pub with the lads and all DJ's now working off laptops...just lazy ;).

Again the lighting shot is a little cracker Carol, maybe just boost the saturation a little to bring out the colours, but for me the shot really works and I like the composition too

Great work too on the Spanish Hall shots, putting the 4 together really works well :)

Thanks Simon :) Yes they are lazy arent they? Love it when they say they are djing all night and how tired they are ..... All our DJs use Vinyl :D ...... One year at the Northern Soul Tower weekend a 'new' dj got a CD out and played it........ we have screens behind the decks to show which record is going on and when some of the Soulies heard the music but saw no record on the screen there was uproar!! we thought they were going to hang, draw and quarter him for the sacrilege

Hahahaha love it...tell ya modern day DJ's don't know how bloomin' easy they have it. It was an art form mixing 7" singles together, not some software with mp3's loaded and doing all the beat matching for you :bat::bat:

I know! They walk in with a laptop and you wouldnt even know they were DJs  Can tell the Vinyl DJs from the muscles ...... and wives/ partners are the same with having to carry them everywhere :)
