Daily Carol's 365 from 12th December 2012 - A Year of Happiness

He's cute!!! I love the monkey one... You done well

Fab job Carol! I have a couple of a 6 month old boy and it's not the easiest but I really enjoyed it! I love shooting babies when they can't move fast or far

He was like a little whippet Toni :D

Being prepared for an audience the next time makes it easier as you can think of ways of handling it. :-)

Well I think I may have a long line of cups of coffee being made then :D

I know nothing about portrait shots but knowing children at that age, well done on getting him in focus at all! Just watch out for the shadows behind him.

Thanks Phil :) and I will :)

Carol I think you have do a great job , love number one but Monkey does it for me x

Thanks Vince :) Mum loved No. 1 but have to say my favourite was definitely No. 2 with the Monkey :)

sorry playing catch up ...

The heron is ace
The lighting on the shoes is perfect
and how cute and adorable is he?

Good range of images here

Thanks Tezz :)

Very dapper shoes there, Carol! And what an amazing model you had today, with a great job by you as well!! :)

Thanks Sam :)

Like your baby portraits, very cute indeed (think the 2nd is my fav).

Very nice shoes too!

Thanks Tim :)

Thanks Trace :) I think it is the look on his face that does it for me :)

He is gorgeous, I think you did very well for your first time

Thanks Sarah :) Gives me hope for future shots - would love to try and shoot a newborn :) That sounds bad doesnt it? Thank Goodness we know what we mean

Today is the first day of four off :D But I had to do all kinds of stuff around the house so not had a chance to get out and about - though I intend to tomorrow :)
So kept the camera by the patio doors and the curtain pulled up so they werent scared by the movement from it and hoped :) Got a couple of starlings, sparrows and doves but then I saw him..... on the table and on the patio so stood as far back as I could and just shot away :D Am I one happy bunny even though I never stepped out of the house :D My job is done!! Got him  Got a full album on my FB as well :D

Thanks Jake :)

I have to say of the two, I think that the second one is my pick, I just have a thing about kiddie photo that they need there cloths on, and the first :( not for me for that reason, he looks a right cheeky little chap

That robin is a good one, thought he looks a little fed up of the cost weather :(

I agree Matt but Mum wanted him done like that ........... Tried to keep camera as high up as I could for as many as I could

He was :) and decided to smile loads once I had the camera away and my coat on to go

Know how the Robin feels there

Lovely tatty little robin, very sweet.

As for the wedding, I'd only say one bit of advice. "Just say No!!" :) I was pushed into doing one last year as a favour & I'd never ever do it again. Shots were fine, but the feeling before hand that I could ruin their day by not getting the shots at an unrepeatable event made me feel sick. I was only agreeing to doing some formal portraits after the service as well, free, as it was someone who works at hubby's place. But the week before, the bride was assuming I would be there from Breakfast to last dance as well. Had to say no to that one, she was a bit of a bridezilla.

Thanks Sarah :) I have to admit it is a bit nerve wracking for me..... have told them all that they have to get a Pro in. I dont mind doing a few shots of them but am not going to say yes to a big day and not know exactly what I am doing. I keep telling them that I am merely a beginner in the photography department - regardless of the fact that I have taken photos for years. The camera I always used was fixed lens and automatic so didnt have to do anything. This camera is a whole lot different and a lot more complex than that was and I know it is going to be a long long time before I understand even half of it. I'm just going to stand my ground and tell them they have to have a Pro there and will just take a few special shots of them - end of! :D

Like the robin Carol, one of my favourite birds. They have so much character

Thanks Trace and Vince :) Glad I got him at last :D

Thanks Phil :) This little blighter has evaded me for a couple of weeks now but I amgetting sneakier

Carol, I think you are very sensible, at least if they get a pro in for the standard groups and set shots, you could then go and take some candids away from that action. They get a set of pro shots and from you a story of he day and no pressure.

2 of the weddings are good friends of ours so OH would be left on his own for most of the day - well nearly all of it - and the other is my Best Friends daughter and I know I just wouldnt enjoy the day as much with all that pressure. Why do people assume that because you have a 'fancy' camera, as they like to call it, and you enjoy using it that you will be able to do it without a worry in the world  If only that were true :)

Aww lovely shot Carol!

RE: weddings. I done one recently. It was a very, very small wedding and was the parents of a family friend. They weren't going to have anyone at all as budget wouldn't stretch whatsoever. The family friend asked me to do it as a surprise. She only wanted a couple of the standard posed photos but then I could "do what I want" during the ceremony etc and if I got any, that was great. If not, no biggie! The photos weren't fantastic and they weren't my best but the bride, groom and their families absolutely loved them.

My cousin has asked me to do her wedding next year based on those... a big church and all the trimmings wedding...

I wouldnt mind doing that tbh :) But two of them are BIG weddings as well so even more scary

OMG don't go there with the wedding
The robin does look a little chilled. Congrats on getting him at last

Aw, poor little Robin Redbreast - great job, there, Carol!

First Robin I have seen in t'north and it looks lovely, good work Carol :)

Thanks Ferj :)

I'm so confused Carol...I swear shortsighted that I post a comment...then wake up in the 14th century only to spend two weeks hiding in Mrs fotheringays skirting board ...to return to your thread and not find my comments .. . What sorcery is this??

You did comment Kev :D about blue eyes was a redhead and that the shoes were nice as well :D Dont know why they are disappearing - am sure they are still here :) I dont delete them - dont have that ability :)

Today has been one of those days where it didnt know what to do with itself weatherwise - rain then snow then rain then snow and now rain again - so I didnt go too far unless I was in the car. I started to read one of the books OH got me for Christmas and got an idea from it and thought I would try it out.

I had to have a bowl of sweets, a CD cover and some water and try and create a reflection in the water droplets which had been sprayed onto the cd cover :) Sounds easy right? WRONG! Didn't have any sweets  so had to use plants Couldnt get the tripod to go close enough so had to hold the camera as well as the cd cover and automatically focus then change the lens to MF and then refocus by moving the cover back and forward until I thought it was right..... after about 20 tries my arm was aching  but I think you will get the idea from the photographs. Not the best but not bad for a first try and maybe should have used a cd cover that wasnt so marked - forgot the camera would pick every little detail up

Carol, both are great BUT, for me....number one....wow! There are so many things I like about that one......the reflection across all, the kind of 'suspension in space and time' feel to it, the differing sizes and strange abstract look to the drops.

Works for me, if you couldn't tell!

2 is great and interesting, but not my winner. Others may disagree. :)

Thanks Sam :D I had seen this done by so many others and thought Id try it - not exactly as brilliant as theirs but worth the POTD. I liked No. 1 as well seems a bit clearer what it is as well. No. 2 was a flower head (one of those bright green things they stick in a bouquet to fill it up  )

Thanks Vince and Lee :D always good to try something new for a change :)

That's a good idea. I did do my friend's wedding but I bought a second flash, a better lens, went on a course, borrowed a camera as backup, borrowed a longer prime and a wide angle, did practice sessions with friends, went to the venue to look around and take test shots, went to the rehearsal to see the church and talk to the minister - it was a lot of work! A detailed shot list, a friend along on the day for moral support and back up, a long day and a lot of pressure. Friends still expect you to stop and chat but you can't relax and be a guest.

I loved every minute of it though!

I like the droplet shots - though sounds like a lot of effort to get them!
