Car insurance

Have a look around as well Matt, I remember when I was looking for my first car. I ended up with a 1.8Ltr Volvo 440 as it was cheap as chips to insure compared to a Nova/Corsa/Fiesta etc.

Also had a Pontiac Firebird when I was 20 as it was also so cheap to insure! £700 less than I paid for a Calibra.

I just think insurance companies just pluck figures from the air

You make a good point.

It would be probably safer to hang back a bit and watch you understeer off into the nearest hedge.

Erm nah, out of all my mates big cars like civic 1.4 and ford escourt 2.0 and golf 1.3, mine has the best handling.

I can't believe someone would say something like that, my car handles differentlly to any other corsa.........

Matt - Remember that you can haggle with insurance companies... Im with tesco and with some ruthless haggling by my mum she managed to get the quote down over £300 a year.. so Im currently on about £900 a year although Im going to shop around a bit more in the next week or so.

Regards, James

i have a corsa and i aways said i would never get one lol
but as a first car its great, ive had it 2 years now and looing at getting a mini soon instead

How much did it cost you to replace the entire suspension system?

Work it out for yourself, new cav's

i cant believe ive been missing this all my life, a vauxhall corsa is the best handling car in the world.......

Erm ok then, where once did i say it was best handling car in the world? read properly before you start shouting alligations about next time?

So this is for you    That's for not paying attention to the thread you was posting in.

Dude even a beemer couldn't keep up with me down these roads, not because i was speeding but i can take the corners better than him.....

New what? Are they expensive?

Blimey. You ought to get yourself over to Munich pronto and show the BMW engineers where they've been going wrong.

Now now calm down, pack it in and all that.

I'm not even going to say what i've changed because by what i said if you are any man that is in to cars, you know what they mean. Don't you?

I can't be bothered arguing, im already in a mood because what has happend tonight and im not going to let me get banned from here.............

Can't believe we let Vauxhall drivers on here in the first place, let alone allow them to talk about the damn things...

Bit of Forum Trivia for all you newbies (like in the past 24 months) - TP was orginally formed by a group of Ford Mondeo owners...oh yes...

Some of us still own Fords...OK mine's a Mustang GT V8, but a Blue Oval's a Blue Oval...

Im not even bothering anymore, if you can't believe i can keep up with them cars then don't believe it.....

Irrespective of your 1.0l Corsa p0wah and l33t driving skillz, I'd still like to know what a 'cav' is.

It's possible. After all, the Vauxhall Cavalier was widely regarded in the motoring world as being the best handling car* in its class.

*Called a Cavalier and made by Vauxhall.

Haha it's pretty funny you don't know what it is, maybe because you have never touched a spanner and put it anywhere near a car? it's ok, i only know because i've been brought up around cars

Maybe it's the suspension set-up from an old Cavalier...? :D

haha nope

Oh your so funny, following on other peoples laughs.....yeah good one

Bit defensive isn't he? Must come from driving around at 35mph all the time...

I've touched a spanner. I've got a whole toolbox of them in actual fact. And I've even put one near a car.

Would you say we were bonding sufficiently for you to reveal the secret of the cav?

it's ok, i only know because i've been brought up around cars
So what, you were left on a Vauxhall forecourt as a baby and raised by a Cavalier and an Astra?

The Vauxhall Lotus Carlton was one of the truly greats, it's just that Corsas were never much cop - especially the new 'GM-Modified' ones...

And some of us were being brought up on cars back in the 1960's and 70's...so we might know a thing or two also...lol

Enlighten me please.

I work with cars all day for a living and its not a term in regular use.

Enlighten you to what?

Am i saying the corsa is a great car? no ofcourse it has it problems like any other car. I just don't see how you don't even knoe me or have never driven with me and yet i seem to not be able to keep up with them cars.....

Forgive me but your earlier posts suggest quite the opposite...throwing down the gaunlet in such a manner is bound to get people's attention...
Maybe your Corsa does have excellent cornering abilities, the real test would be on a track and since that's not likely to happen, your argument is moot...

...and unless you can do a 1/4 mile in 10.2 seconds or less, you'll be looking at my taillights for the remainder...

so...what's a cav? c'mon, we're all dying to know - or is it some secret code only hoodies are privvy to?

C'mon! Added Vroom? perhaps

I think the latest VXR series are magnificent, but it's still fun to windup Vauxhall owners....almost as bad as owning a Canon....

Using a Cavalier inner CV joints on a Corsa isn't unheard of... wouldn't make that much difference to cornering over stock though unless it's been lowered and stiffened, had uprated coilovers fitted etc etc...

The current VXR series look quite nice but are still very understeery (atleast the Astra and Vectra), except the Monaro which will wag its tail just a little.(not that i have driven one of them) There desiels rev well, but lack torque compared to my tdci, havent driven a petrol one.

Id much rather a standard Fiesta (driven my brothers) or Focus (owned a 1.8 version and had a TDCi one while having mine serviced), or even a Fabia (mate has one) then a standard Corsa, much better handling cars in standard form. Which is more advisable for a first car, as modded cars cost far more to insure, which is high enough when starting out.

Volvo's are very cheap to insure and the T5 is mightly rapid in striaght lines, i very nearly brought one a while back.

Rovers and there MG's are bloody expensive to insure for what they are. (except the MG'f which is very cheap for a group 16)

This i can keep up stuff, hope its on the track? with someone that is actually attempting to out run you, otherwise it is very errevalant. If you are racing on public roads, then i just hope no inocent party falls foal of it.

he like the rest of us is facinated as to what a CAV is...

Jees, it's facinated you all? well why not use google or whatever search engine you use and it quite cleary tells you it's short for Coilovers.......

Forgive me but your earlier posts suggest quite the opposite...throwing down the gaunlet in such a manner is bound to get people's attention...

Dude, im not saying your car is sh&t if i did up there i was talking sh%t and it was in anger. Give me a mus anyday and i'd leave the corsa for it

WTF is a cav? I've been thinking and the only mechanical part that could possibly be shortened to CAV is the constant velocity joint but these are normally called CV joints.

I know what a CV joint is..........................

thats all i can think of as well andrew, and very few cars use them......

Very few? well mine does and so does the others lots cars

Using a Cavalier inner CV joints on a Corsa isn't unheard of... wouldn't make that much difference to cornering over stock though unless it's been lowered and stiffened, had uprated coilovers fitted etc etc...

never heard of coilover's being called cav's for short, and i've been modding my own car's for 8 years, and been in the scene a lot longer

got coilover's on my corsa c, and still wouldn't call the handling the best, much better than standard thought

edit, i know they are dirty, been taken off for a freshen up ;)

They do make alot of differences on the handling yeah, being in the business a long time doesn't Necessary mean that you know more.

I thought corsasport closed down  like last year sometime

I've never heard of coil overs being called Cavs... This is despite 15 yrs plus in the classic car industry and 10yrs+ in the modified parts world supplying parts to 70 countries worldwide - you get to hear some strange names for things. And several of the cars I cover have these as standard equipment.

Maybe you call them cavs, but the rest of the world doesn't!

Technically most dampers on modern cars are coilovers but the term has shifted to refer to those with a height adjustable spring platform, allowing people to lower the ride height without particularly altering the spring rates or damping characteristics.

Anyway I hope you've declared them on your car insurance because otherwise your insurance is likely to be invalid.

hence the headscrathing smiley, most cars have them. i was mearly taking the ****.

also never heard of coilovers being called cavs and search on google (for 'corsa cavs' 'cav' 'corsa cav' etc) brings up nothing either.

can i suggest you remove your head from your arse a bit, you've only come under scrutiny in this thread because you threw down a gauntlet at the start and then in retaliation to the attention from it you start calling everyone else (people who i have absolutely no doubt what so ever know more about this subject than you do) stupid because they havent heard of your 'terminology'

Ah right and i've got my head up my own arse because? i know my stuff about my cars, and i have no doubt that flash does as well, it's not about having my head up my own arse it's about knowing stuff, and you seem to not like it when a boy younger than yourself knows abit more about the car he owns and drives everyday.

I think you will find i didn't call everyone else stupid, check your facts before you start bringing them up please. Oh right so they know more about what's on my car? the one sitting on my drive? that i have worked on many a times? oh right i get you.

I might just get it all back to standard, sell it and get my next car early. you won't have nowt to say about that, or on the other hand i could keep it like i was going to because i love it and not care what anyone else thinks?

Maybe you should pull your head out your arse and stop egging on a argument over the internet, with people you don't know

ROFL Your testing my car knowlege online? howwwwwwwwwwwwww sweeet.
