Not only is the insurance a rip off, the prices some people are asking for cars are a rip off too. I've been out looking for a Fiesta with my son today. Saw a couple of T reg cars both with dents and creases, fag burns in every seat and they were asking £1295. The cars were in that poor condition I wouldn't have even offered the £95. Seen plenty of nice Fiestas driving about, just not for sale.

I've been comparing a few quotes and cheapest are coming out at between £2500 and £3000 depending on model and engine. I've also tried entering occupations other than student and student on average is £300 cheaper than having an occupation, so his premium will be down to his age (18) and I think our RM post code gets a hefty loading too. (My son has tried his girlfriends CM post code and the quote is about £500 cheaper again).
If my son was a girl living in Chelmsford his premiums would be about £1000 cheaper.
My son keeps looking on Auto Trader at 1.4 Ghia Fiesta's which doesn't help but then a 1.25 Ghia, Zetec, LX or even base model Encore is only about £200 cheaper.
I've noticed the lack of cheap
second hand cars in the dealers now, could this be down to the scrappage scheme?
I don't think my son is going to get much for his £4500 budget.
