Hi,

I got the above mentioned camera back in October. Since then i have had nothing but problems with it. Firstly i had markings on my photos when taking pictures with an aperture size of around f8 which i sent back for repair. It came back the other day, no problems so i presumed it was sorted. I took it out for a few test pictures when i noticed on some images that there were some hot pixels in the image. I took two images in the dark to see the extent of the hot pixel problem and it appears to be all over the images, not in one area.

Needless to say i have put another request in for repair... only having just got it back. I pointed out in my mail that i wanted a replacement or a refund as this seems to be an ingoing issue with this camera but insist on repairing it, reducing my photo shooting time.

Has anyone else had problems like this before? If you have how did you deal with the situation? I'm not trying to give anyone a bad name here but if there is a constant problem with a product then surely it just simply needs replacing and not constantly getting repaired?

I attach two pictures taken with no light, you can clearly see the white patches even without having to close in.

I'll give a quick update on this as i got a reply from the manufacturer, i have no choice to send this back for another repair, straight after only just getting this back due to the manufacturer not giving a replacement or refund, the retailer will definitely not give me a refund as i believe the exchange period has passed.

Very unhappy, it could be case of just bad luck and things will get sorted or i could be in for a long ride of sending this unit back and forth on a regular basis.

I can't see any either

I haven't used it for a while, but I think the CHDK software has a tool to deal with it.

The CHDK Manual bad pixel removal tool allows the removal of defective pixels from each image as it is taken. While Canon firmware will automatically fix bad pixels that were found when the camera was manufactured, this CHDK feature will also remove "hot" or "defective" pixels which are not known to the Canon firmware (e.g. pixels that became defective during the camera lifetime).

Hi
I can't see any white patches.
If you're not happy and if the camera has to be continually fixed then , surely, it's not fit for purpose?

The image has been reduced in size maybe through the forum software which doesn't help, so the white spots are not very visible unless they are zoomed in, but in the full size images i have they are very visible, and they can also be seen on the LCD screen. I'm starting to think it's not fit for purpose myself but i will send it to another repairer, give it one more go and hopefully it will be sorted.

Just need a camera so i can take some pictures again lol.

Uploaded four images to a Flickr account i hardly use in this Album Here. It's best to download them or open with windows Photo Viewer etc, you can definitely see the white spots all over the place in the images when zoomed in (i can see them already but i know where to look), they are also a little darker than usual, that's when i discovered them but i did notice them in bright images too.

And this was the original problem.

Not sure if should use this whilst under warranty repair (too scared too use it in case it invalidates warranty), would it be a temporary fix though?

If the camera has been in for repairs twice since October and it's still not fixed, then I would be demanding a refund from the retailer.

If you don't get any joy with the store then you need to write a letter of complaint to their head office.

:agree:

CHDK is a last resort, I've used it on my old SX40 without issue.
