bought new ,returned faulty, then resold second hand. usally bought by dealers then sold (used) at a handsome profit.:'(

So what's wrong with this?

It's reasonably recommended practice if you want to sell something high value and have some protection (haha protection with ebay...). Also it could be for tax reasons too, making it easier to control it.

I wouldn't call it shill bidding either as you say they are only around for a matter of minutes.

i didnt call this shill bidding, i said theyve been told off before for shill bidding

Maybe the buyers contacted the seller and they agreed at a certain price, then the seller advertised on ebay with a BIN for the buyer.
That's how I dealt with an ebay seller like kerso before.

its a shame you cant see whos getting them, you used to be able to, dam ebay and privacy laws !

the thing is , they were sold as buy it now, but that doesnt show up on the main page, and it should.

Its very dodgy, seems like they were offered privately somehow

What's wrong with that? Ebay aren't a public service where you have to advertise to all and sundry.

Ah ok, sorry, just you seemed to be insinuating that.:)

Exactly. It's a bit like phoning up a shop and reserving the last few of something. Others go there and it's out of stock but you walk in and they hand them over for the set amount of money.

These have gone for way below what there worth, why sell them cheap if you could make £500 to £1000 more?

shill bidding is where people who have no intention to buy, bid on an item to increase its value.

I thought shill bidding was done by the seller with a different account name so they appear to be legit buyers, so the price will go up. They bid on their own item to increase the price.

Sorry to say that's often done on e-bay the place is full of snake oil salesmen, sharlatans :nono: and the odd few genuine and reliable sellers:)!

Oh how we all love e-bay!!

I used to sell consoles on ebay, sometimes someone would ask for an extra this or that. I then put a BIN on with the extras and send the item number to that person. That way I was covered (LOL!!) by ebay/paypal claims.
Normal really.

What gains would this seller be doing really? They will have ebay fee's so not doing any favours to themselfs for doing it for no reason.

selling something for below market value is fee avoidance

I sold a new console below market value, did I avoid fee's? Or just sell it cheaper ;)

But surely that is canons decision and not yours, if they decide to sell at that price that is up to them and I bet if you could you would buy one at that price.

whats the difference between doing it yourself under a different account, or getting your mates to do this...

My apologies is I misunderstood you, I was just quoting what you said earlier- "people with no intention to buy", which could also mean people not known to the seller.

its dodgy because the same people get them all the time, within minutes of them going live, this has been going on for months and months, my guess is someone works on the inside and tips someone on the outside the wink.

It's not "dodgy", but I'll bet I know exactly who is getting them, the same thing happened with the Nikon gear Jessops' were selling on Ebay, all the dslrs were snapped up within a couple of minutes,by one of two buyers. One of them is well known on TP and not for good things.....

I never understood why Jessops - who are not in the soundest of positions financially - were knocking out D300s at £640 and D3s at £1650 for you-know-who (cough Harbour48 and FilterFantastic cough) to resell on Ebay for 20% mark-ups when they could have sold them all day themselves at more sensible prices!
