Canon EOS R Series Cameras

Does anyone have the R? I've noticed on mine when I flip the screen around it seems to be having a little "catch" or something; It's just not 100 percent smooth it seems, like it is on the RP. Anyone able to do a bit of flipping on the EOS R and confirm its silky smooth with no "catching" at all?

Mine seems to be smooth. At what point does it catch on yours?

I worked in Runcorn for 10 years and I'm shocked that something so visually appealing can come from a WA7 postcode :)
I just need to get down there when the tide is in so I can get the full reflection.
Looks like tomorrow should be a full tide around 6pm so may see if I can get back down.

Fabulous shots Paul @Hanley It's all so photogenic these days. It was worth photographing in the old days too, but for different reasons. The transformation has been amazing.

Love the symmetry you've captured in that bridge over the Prince's Dock.

I've only lived here 20 years, from the North-East originally, but I wish I'd seen it before the transformation, it's got a great vibe about the place now. In front of the Liver Building on the waterfront kids go down with their skateboards, don't hassle anyone, people just sitting round enjoying the view, nice place to go for a walk.

I struggled with the bridge, I think I could get a better shot but it was my first time shooting it so I'll definitely go back. :)

I left in 1993, but first moved there in 1979 when all the docks were in decay. The last time I visited was in 2012 - when I took this shot from our hotel room - possibly at Prince's Dock - almost opposite the Baltic Fleet. The place was absolutely buzzing then :) https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...-technique-fill-the-frame.720247/post-8883513 I feel like I've come home when I visit, even though a lot has changed. :)

I really like both bridge shots.

My R6 comes soon. I traded in my 70-200 for the RF with Park at the end of last week and also added a grip which is eligible for a spare battery on the photo show website and they didn't tell me...:(. I am hoping they will sort that out for me.

Did they give an estimate as to how long you’d be waiting for the 70-200?

I’m still going back and forth (after about a month!) as to whether I can bring myself to use my current trade credit towards an RF one (currently have the Mark II)

Just can’t seem to pull the trigger and do it :D

I love how small the RF 70-200 is to put in your bag, that's a worthy upgrade for me :)
The pic above was taken on the RF 70-200

I have it; used in pristine condition but have nothing to test it with until next Monday.

I know, it’s something I should be seriously considering every time I stop myself from trading my current one in towards one :D

The weight doesn’t bother me, as such.
But as you’ve said yourself before, it’s a long term purchase (as with all lenses) that should outlast a good few bodies down the line.

Especially now that I only have the R5.

I'm in two minds about my RF 70-200.
Having sorted some initial AF problems I'm still left with two things I don't like.
I can't fit tele converters which is grating on my nerves a bit and, the tripod mount is always in the way unless I remove it.

Anyone have a foolproof setup for people eye AF?
To say the least, I'm not having much success with it.

My R5 is set to face + eye AF with people priority.
At least 50% of the time, with a person in from of me, the AF point will pick something random like a coat button or a dark circle on clothing or handbag.

Most people rave about the function so it's my guess I'm missing a setting somewhere.

I've removed my tripod ring. Find it to be too big.
I get the point on teleconverters, although I never really use them so that's not an issue for me, I have the 100-500 if I need to go further. I guess this is a design decision hat was made, even on the 100-500 the TC only works from 300mm onwards due to how close the lens mount is to the sensor.

Do you back button focus and use servo mode?
Works perfectly on mine.

I do not use back button focus but do use servo mode.
It would be nice if I could select say, a centre group of nine points as the AF start point then recompose.
To be honest, getting the R5 to find a person is proving awkward as canon af always opts for closest focus.

I use back button focus, AF-ON is set to single point focus, and * button is configured for EYE-AF.

If I bring the camera up and I press the * button but it doesn't find the eye, I'll use the joystick to move the single point onto the subject and then activate EYE_AF again by pressing the star button.

But I can probably count on one hand how many times it's failed to pick up the eye immediately.

If you go into your AF menu 1 do you have:

AF method - AF followed by the face/tracking symbol
Subject to detect - Enable
Eye detection - Enable

Yes I have those options enabled.

Maybe it's specific to the 85mm 1.2?
That said, I've not gotten on well with the R5 AF since I've owned it. Spot and single point AF never fails but tracking is something of a hit and miss affair.

Perhaps I'm expecting a little too much.

When I had the 85mm 1.2 from Canon on the weekend test drive I found it to be fine, but then again I didn't use for any great length of time.

My 50mm 1.2 works fine all of the time, as do my other RF lenses.
I guess it's just me. I'm old and all this ne fangled tech is a bit confusing for.
I remember when toasters were easy to use.
