Eyecup

I can only find the attached which is a larger version.

Thanks - me too.

This is why I need it

I’ve just bought 2x think tank hydophobia covers which fit nicely over the r6 and r5 viewfinder without any attachement

However, my R5 one is pretty worn and has broken away at the top taking away some structural integrity in the sides. Therefore the cover is harder to seat over the viewfinder to make it stay in position

Sounds like a query for Canon UK. Seems odd that they do not have one in their online shot.

Yes and I did contact them via facebook last night. They provided their service hotline which I'll phone next week.

R6mkii announcement allegedly imminent, tomorrow night/Thursday morning, 06/11/25.

Rumoured specs?

I'll start, 33mp, same sensor as C50 .......................

I would love to get a Full Frame body, and the R6iii ticks enough boxes for me, and this will be a good addition to use along side my R7 !

I honestly don’t see any use for anything more advanced than my mk1 R6.

I really would like something retro looking that works this well. And I was hoping this was the year

I would love to see a retro R body, I don't have GAS but that camera would be on my shelf, if it ever happens.

I’ve shot Canon for 20 odd years, but the camera that’s given me most pleasure in that time was a Fuji xe1

If I could have a feel of an AE1 (first canon I used) with a small 35mm or 50mm lens, that’d do. I’d even be happy if it wasn’t full frame with 22 and 32mm lenses.

But a Canonet style would do too (like the Fuji). I’m really not that picky.

I had Fuji alongside Canon for a few years but decided to concentrate on Canon. I do have a soft spot for the Fuji styling, owned an M1 and a T10, sold them to fund other kit, something I do kind of regret.

The nearest thing I currently own to the Fuji styling is my little Canon M5, it was supposed to be sold too to help fund my R7 but I kept it, I love the form factor of that little camera too.

Quite often find myself browsing used Fuji gear though. ;)

It would be cool if the camera could recommend the best frame in each burst based on the style of shoot or event... not sure how much processing power that would require.

I bought the M5 to replace the Fuji and fit in with my canon gear, but sadly never loved it.

And I also browse used Fuji gear, I’m not doing it though.

Cameras are like a horse for a course, and I like my camera as action, Wildlife shooting, however a do dabble in landscape.
I do like an aggressive AF system !

Ok. So the R6iii was announced today, meh.
But... 45mm F/1.2 for £479, wtf!
Its not weather sealed, it's stm and it isn't pin sharp across the frame wide open, but it sounds like a lens for everyone.

Mtf is dead ZERO in the corner. No, its a specialist lens for doing very specific defocused images. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

I only recently bought a R6mkII and I am still learning what this has to offer, and getting used to it. Plus I knew the mkIII was coming out when I purchased it, so I made a considered choice base on the spec and price of the mkII. (tight git) I have never felt the need to be an early adopter, although the increase to 32mp would be nice but not essential. Just bigger files sizes ! . Plus I am more than happy with what the mkii is producing for me so far. I also don't do video, so that's wasted on me. Might wait to see what the mkiv version offers in 3 or 4 years times might and consider an upgrade then.

I’m looking forward to seeing a bit more about the 45 1.2 very interesting lens.

Me too, though I have no desire to buy the R6iii.
The mpix and AF in the mki are good enough for my needs.

There’s always a chance a new lens will pique my interest, but only a completely ‘different’ camera would raise an eyebrow.

I mostly travel photograph nowadays. And my R6 and 24-70 is fab for that, but it looks and feels all wrong.

If I had a smaller body with a 28 (or 24), 35 and 50mm lens I’d be more than happy, and even if they were APSC and equivalent I could live with that.

Canon have been hinting at a retro body, and that’d possibly make my day

I have an R6ii - I'm interested in (particularly). something with better low light AF performance but I'm also fond of both of my kidneys remaining where they are.

Who is going to order the R6iii ! ?
when it approaches the current mkii pricing on hk sites I might seriously consider one due to video spec unless I own r5 ii or corresponding sony by then.

I almost added ,except for long lens', as I thought it wouldn't be of any use for your specific use case.
Its probably no use for landscape either.
Portraits however.
It depends on your portraits work style; so yes I could potentially see that. If you are however more into clinically sharp studio portraits, then maybe look elsewhere.

Don't forget the 50 Sigma ART. While it is well behind the current E mount revisions, I find my copy extrelemly sharp for landscape work at 5.6 even on high megapixel sensors, and essentially perfect for lifestyle close to around f/2. F/1.4 does display some softer image but should still comfortably beat "45mm" rf; and best of all it can be had for maybe 60% of the cost. The next step up is the RF 50mm f/1.4VCM or the 1,2... That is a BIG jump in expenditure. OR 40mm ART which is a little wider but super sharp.

Heads up.

Book a Canon Test Drive starting 20th December, and keep everything for 16 DAYS, through the entire Christmas period and into the new year.

Well, I had a go on the R6iii at the Wex "hands on" in Wex Newcastle. Not in any rush to upgrade from the R6ii

Are there many items that are hire free, as last I look all I would have liked to have used came with a hire / rental price !

It is normally free for 48 hours and they allow one day for despatch and a day for return. They require a returnable deposit.

For periods that include a bank holiday they give extra days. Where there are bank holidays close together you get several extra days. So great at Easter and Christmas but you generally need to get in early.

Good luck.

A lot of things have gone, not available, but i just added when something was there, and checked the dates, it give you the cost, 0.00 etc,and the deposit required.

The times ive done it though, they sometimes ring a few days before asking if i want it early ,no extra charge, i say yes.

First time i tried hiring, i went silly added r3 , and a few L RF Primes, and they required extra insurance, but the last body only times, its been fine.

All of them come 2 days for free. And at bank holidays that stretches.

You get quoted a price only if you want to hire for longer than the free period

Random question, does anyone use their EF 70-200 F4L on mirrorless still - how do you find the focus speed? My USM motor has failed but given the price I'm thinknig of buying a second hand one to use on an autofocused remote camera

As it happens I do still use my EF 70-200 F4 , had it a long time and it works perfectly well on my R5

Thanks, I seem to remember mine did too before the autofocus failed. How do you find the focus speed? Do you think it would still be fast enough to use on a static tripod mounted remote camera? If so I am tempted to buy one from MPB early next year!

Think it would depend on how fast your subjects are moving, I haven’t done any remote shooting for a long time, I did used to use my 70-200 F4 remotely to shoot perched birds with a DSLR
I mainly use my 70-200 to shoot larger wild animal's also at the zoo on both a DSLR, 6D mk 2 and mirrorless, R5 never had any autofocus issues though
