Thanks - me too.
This is why I need it
I’ve just bought 2x think tank hydophobia covers which fit nicely over the r6 and r5 viewfinder without any attachement
However, my R5 one is pretty worn and has broken away at the top taking away some structural integrity in the sides. Therefore the cover is harder to seat over the viewfinder to make it stay in position

I would love to get a Full Frame body, and the R6iii ticks enough boxes for me, and this will be a good addition to use along side my R7 !R6mkii announcement allegedly imminent, tomorrow night/Thursday morning, 06/11/25.
Rumoured specs?
I'll start, 33mp, same sensor as C50 .......................

I honestly don’t see any use for anything more advanced than my mk1 R6.
I really would like something retro looking that works this well. And I was hoping this was the year
I’ve shot Canon for 20 odd years, but the camera that’s given me most pleasure in that time was a Fuji xe1I would love to see a retro R body, I don't have GAS but that camera would be on my shelf, if it ever happens.

If I could have a feel of an AE1 (first canon I used) with a small 35mm or 50mm lens, that’d do. I’d even be happy if it wasn’t full frame with 22 and 32mm lenses.
But a Canonet style would do too (like the Fuji). I’m really not that picky.
I bought the M5 to replace the Fuji and fit in with my canon gear, but sadly never loved it.I had Fuji alongside Canon for a few years but decided to concentrate on Canon. I do have a soft spot for the Fuji styling, owned an M1 and a T10, sold them to fund other kit, something I do kind of regret.
The nearest thing I currently own to the Fuji styling is my little Canon M5, it was supposed to be sold too to help fund my R7 but I kept it, I love the form factor of that little camera too.
Quite often find myself browsing used Fuji gear though.![]()
Cameras are like a horse for a course, and I like my camera as action, Wildlife shooting, however a do dabble in landscape.TBF

Mtf is dead ZERO in the corner. No, its a specialist lens for doing very specific defocused images. I wouldn't touch it with a barge poleOk. So the R6iii was announced today, meh.
But... 45mm F/1.2 for £479, wtf!
Its not weather sealed, it's stm and it isn't pin sharp across the frame wide open, but it sounds like a lens for everyone.
I almost added ,except for long lens', as I thought it wouldn't be of any use for your specific use case.Mtf is dead ZERO in the corner. No, its a specialist lens for doing very specific defocused images. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole
Who is going to order the R6iii ! ?
Who is going to order the R6iii ! ?
Me too, though I have no desire to buy the R6iii.I’m looking forward to seeing a bit more about the 45 1.2 very interesting lens.
Canon have been hinting at a retro body, and that’d possibly make my day
when it approaches the current mkii pricing on hk sites I might seriously consider one due to video spec unless I own r5 ii or corresponding sony by then.Who is going to order the R6iii ! ?
It depends on your portraits work style; so yes I could potentially see that. If you are however more into clinically sharp studio portraits, then maybe look elsewhere.I almost added ,except for long lens', as I thought it wouldn't be of any use for your specific use case.
Its probably no use for landscape either.
Portraits however.
Heads up.
Book a Canon Test Drive starting 20th December, and keep everything for 16 DAYS, through the entire Christmas period and into the new year.

Random question, does anyone use their EF 70-200 F4L on mirrorless still - how do you find the focus speed? My USM motor has failed but given the price I'm thinknig of buying a second hand one to use on an autofocused remote camera
As it happens I do still use my EF 70-200 F4 , had it a long time and it works perfectly well on my R5
Thanks, I seem to remember mine did too before the autofocus failed. How do you find the focus speed? Do you think it would still be fast enough to use on a static tripod mounted remote camera? If so I am tempted to buy one from MPB early next year!
Think it would depend on how fast your subjects are moving, I haven’t done any remote shooting for a long time, I did used to use my 70-200 F4 remotely to shoot perched birds with a DSLR
I mainly use my 70-200 to shoot larger wild animal's also at the zoo on both a DSLR, 6D mk 2 and mirrorless, R5 never had any autofocus issues though
