Canon EOS R Series Cameras

Yes, I read a lot about that camera and it appears to have received very good reviews.

Budget wise I would say at the very, very most given I'm not using it to make money would be circa £2.5k ish (give or take) so the R5 for example I wouldn't even bother purchasing as it's too expensive for what I would use it for...leave those high end cameras to the pros.

Thing is I have a couple of canon EF compatible lenses and flash. I didn't really want to go and buy more flashes and lenses for a Sony lol

Perhaps an RP or R would definitely hit the mark?

Other option, is to control my purchasing desires (I believe they are labelled GAS on the forum) and see if any of the tech trickles down into newer models in a year or two..or is that unrealistic?
The problem with that approach is that you’ll end up waiting forever, as there is always better tech coming out. And while you wait you don’t have a camera.

If you like canon then I’d look at the RP, R or R6. Your EF lenses will work perfectly with an RF to EF adapter and controls and menus will be familiar.

I strongly suggest an RP. Very little to not love on that camera, apart from the 4K video being pretty poor, but if you're not going to use that then,..

If I saw a decent RP deal, I'd be tempted myself again!

Some food for thought in those responses. I am heading to the next camera show, we may see some new tech by then :)

I think John Lewis have an R with adapter in stock for about £1,800 - £1,900 is that a good deal? I don't need any lenses straight away as I have my little 50 mm 1.8 (I love it but appreciate its not the best) and my sigma 105 macro lens, so that will keep me going. I read that the battery is poor on the RP which put me off a little - hopefully no worse than my little M50mk ii

I bought R5 + control ring + RF100-500 highly delighted so far superb ket very sharp results and excellent portability.

The batt
I read that the battery is poor on the RP ...
I don't want to sway your decision at the end of the day.... pick the one that you think you'd use the most.
The RP uses an LP-E17 battery which I think is the same as your M50. spare battery, less of a problem.

Buy grey import and save yourself some money.

Canon R here for £1359 with the adaptor.

Wow that is cheap....gotta be a catch bar being from overseas

It was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment given the other thread :ROFLMAO:
I’ve used them loads as have loads of others on here, never any issues.

Be prepared to wait 10-15 days for delivery but I think that’s worth it to save £600.

You can spend an extra £60 and get 3 years warranty and delivery within 5 days.

Or this one?

I think it will be between the R and R6

Hmm you must have watched a different review to me :ROFLMAO:
Image quality is all I care about and if I can pick it up grey import for £160/170 I’ll be happy with that for a lens I can not worry about being careful with. :)

That was another thing I had read that put me off the RP a little is that it has not sensor shutter to cover the sensor or something like that.
I've got an RP. I've had it since February. I've used it on the beach in windy conditions, rain, next to waterfalls with spray, changing lenses a fair few times in less than ideal conditions and I've yet to notice any dust spots on the sensor. (I'm often shooting at f8-f11, so I'd be more likely to see spots than if I was shooting at f1.8).
It was something I thought about, but I wouldn't worry about it. Besides, buy a home sensor cleaning kit and you'll be fine.

I notice from Flickr that you're shooting an M50, which is a fair bit smaller than anything full frame, particularly if you look at the full frame zoom lenses.

The RP is a bargain of a full frame mirrorless camera though.
Mine was under £800 s/h from WEX.

RP, R or R6? All depends which features you need most. Ken Rockwell has a decent summary https://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/compared.htm

I got the original R when it came out and still use it every day. Over the past year or so I’ve added two R5s to replace older DSLRs and those get a lot of use too, but more specialized - low light, fast action or big prints.

and doesn't seem to be very strong in that department

That is a bit of a size difference, especially in the lenses. I guess that size difference is part of the equation that makes the larger lenses better than these smaller EFM ones, picture quality wise.

Won't want to give them back though lol
Well that’s the point, you’ll know how much you want one. :)

but you could do an RP one weekend and the R6 the next and then you’d know what the real world comparison is for what you shoot.

I’ve a bit more patience (or less money) and I need to sell a load of gear before I buy one. (It’s much more complicated than that really)

Agree with Phil don’t rush into choosing try both then decide

Out of interest, what lenses are you intending to move on?
