I've never compared the two Matt, but if no one has answered by the weekend I'll give them a quick test and let you know. Wont get a chance before then as writing a new site and it's taking all my time (and doing my head in).

I'd be quite interested to see myself as I've never tried the 50mm on my M's.

As Ed said, the 40mm is fantastic. I bought it ages ago whilst still using a 7d and wasn't impressed so gave it to the Missus. On the M's it comes to life (22mm good).

I'm now allowed to "borrow" it :rolleyes:

Thanks for the replies @Wissel and @edster, have heard lots of good things about the 40mm, but having already got the 50mm, I was just wondering if would notice much difference, aside from distance!!
 
Just had a catch up with the thread, been taking lots of pics with my 70d, but not the M. Far too fast paced for the M. Did a little bit video of interim events at bolsover castle, but not totally happy with the sound recorded. I am thinking about off loading my 40mm for the new nifty fifty if I can afford to do it.
 
I love the little M, I use it quite alot for video work because of the low cost and lightness of the body.

Here I a recent edit I made with it while having a drive across wales last bank holiday.

I have also taken some quite nice photos with the little gem which i will try find.

I recently invested in a separate sound recording device (following advice in this thread) and I love it. Well worth it as the inbuilt mic on pretty much any camera is rubbish...
 
All quiet on the M front?! My EVF that I'd ordered from Japan arrived today (great service off eBay). Only had chance to have a quick play but all seems good with it.

It fits the camera with a lens attached, plus room for a couple of other lenses. Back and front pocket areas have space for other accessories.
Its light as a feather compared to my dslr backpack loaded with gear.

I really like the fact I can put the camera, and a couple of lens' in my bag and not notice the weight, compared to carrying round an slr.
How are you finding the M3 compared to your previous kit?
 
I haven't had much chance to use it yet, but I like the size/feel of it.
Still waiting for the tamron 18-200 issue to be resolved as that would likely be my walkabout lens with 11-22 for landscape.
 
A quick couple of shots with the M3 tonight to try out the EVF. Am liking it very much. Also had a play with the HDR setting in lightroom.

Has anyone found a pouch type case for the M3 that fits just the body and the 22mm? I know we discussed this for the original M but not sure if those discussed will fit the slightly bigger M3?

Try the Lowepro Dashpoint 20.
 
Not sure about the WiFi capabilities of the M3. It will only connect directly to smartphones, so not much point in that.
If you want to download images to PC you have to go through Canon Image Gateway and then download them as (very) small files which are no good for editing.
On connecting the camera to the PC through WiFi you only get to launch windows media player to see recorded movies.
So - back to taking the SD card out and feeding into the computer as before.
Has anyone worked out a better way??
 
Took my origional M on holiday last week, crusing with my parents and got some lovely shots with the 22mm it really is a great combination, I'm still hoping Canon will give us a couple more pancakes but it doesn't seem to be happening I'm sure the market for a 17mm and a 35/40mm pancake in the M mount would be decent.

I've never used wifi to download pictures from a camera to a computer, only to control the camera or quick preview on phone/tablet. Will try and have a quick play with it over the weekend .

Personally, getting to a "certain age" I am not keen on looking at images on a small phone screen - so I doubt I would ever use it for that. I would have thought the best use for WiFi would be to connect and get your images straight from the camera.
Maybe it's just me :arghh:

Yeah I can see that as a use for the wifi. My own experience of using wifi to download from a camera was that it was slooooow compared to card reader or usb cable!! Also you have to make sure the camera doesn't power off mid transfer, or possible corruption!! But agree would be nice to have the option there to do it.

I suspect it is more of a sales decision on Canon's behalf. They probably want you to buy the NFC storage unit (the name escapes me), in order to transfer your images rather than standard WiFi.

The Wifi app for Panasonic cameras allows you to use an iPad to control the camera remotely and gives a live view, so you get a much larger screen than a phone or the camera. I don't have an M3 (yet) so can't confirm if it will do the same.

The canon one is the same. You can also download the photos to your iPad.

I quite like the wifi camera control on the canon's. At least you have the option to change quite a few settings, unlike when I used the Sony version with an RX100m2 [emoji106]

Agreed. Tim's cycling photo using his monopod homemade selfie stick and the WiFi control (earlier in the thread) was a great example of this.

If the lens fitting is the same as the M3 then we could see a lot more lenses from Canon.

Tamron have announced a firmware update for the 18-200mm to function with the M3.
I'll have to send it to their repair centre, just awaiting further info.
