Did you visit the Sigma stand - I did and was amazed by the size ( and price 😳) of the huge lens at the corner of the stand - 300 to 500mm I believe ??

1stCameras.co.uk, I actually went for a Canon refurb for £885 (body only), comes with 12 months warranty still.

I did yes, the cannon like lens was 400-1000mm :eek: weighs a tad over 15kg as well, wouldn't fancy carting that around!
 
Sounds like you got a good deal there Ollie, they had a huge selection of lenses too didnt they - I was tempted but resisted as it wouldnt have gone down well :bat:
 
Well it arrived my new 7d and i go on holliday on saturday 2 weeks of sand sun and playing with my equipment that will go down well with the gaffer

Yay, I upgraded from the 450D too. Oh I found the manual pretty useless, I ended up buying an independent user guide more aimed at 'how' to use the camera rather than this button does this and so on!
Oh this forum has also taught me lots.

Had my first outing today with my new 7d can already see the differance from my 500 d going on trip tommoro and looking forward to a good days togging

hi folks,

im still new to my 7D and im wondering if there is a way i can get it to take one picture every 15 or 20 seconds continuously until i turn it off?
and i mean for a normal type of exposure not 15/20s

Not a built in function, you'll need some external device like a laptop or timer remote. Think some 3rd party Chinese grips have this function too?

You need a intervalometer, they range from the crazy expensive Canon one to basic £15 chinese copies to ones that work wirelessly that double as remote triggers, also built into some 3rd party grips like the LinkDelight ones.

i have a question that probably has a very simple solution but i cant find my cameras bloody manual...
im shooting a music event later tonight and i want to know, with the external flash perched on top of the camera, how can i get the camera to focus in low light conditions i'm expecting?
does it only do that pre image taking flash to help it focus with the on board flash?

Depends on the model of flash u have mate, but most have this red grid that projects out in low light to help AF.

You'll also need to be in One Shot AF mode. In AI Servo the focus assist is disabled. Just try to pick out areas of strong contrast for the selected AF point(s) to home in on. An eyeball, mouth or hairline will make for a better target than plain black clothing, for example.

Yep good tip as that has caught me out many a time as I tend to use back button Af and have then farted around in the menus wondering where my grid has one! Lol
 
yeesssssss cracked it!!

in between my last post and this one ive been to oxford and picked up a speedlite 430 exII because i quickly realised the cheapo flash i had wasnt going to cut the mustard!

thanks very much for your help, ive been panicking a bit but im now sorted and the last piece of the jigsaw was the one shot AF mode

Thank you all very much, my panic's over and i can now sort myself out in the hour i have left before i need to catch a bus to wantage! :thumbs:

Cool just be aware there are 2 of the 19 Af points that won't trigger the 430ex2s assist lamp in single point mode as its the 580 model that covers the higher Af points of the 1d series!
 
Can anyone help please, when I have my 7D and 24-105mm set up together I am experiencing an issue with autofocus on the lens? The lens autofocus system appears to be continually trying to lock focus even though I have the focus confirmation lights in the viewfinder? I also had the err 01 message up a few times when in av and tv modes??

How old is your camera and lens? I've heard there is an issue with the 24-105 lens and the err 01 message (didn't stop me buying one two weeks ago though) I would speak to Canon!
 
I've had both camera and lens for approx two years and have had no trouble at all with either. The lens is superb you made a good choice! Cant understand why it's suddenly started with this issue- in wondering if it's operator error lol as it still locks focus, just seems to continue to whir away to itself !!
 
I have to say the lens is superb, it's hardly been off my camera since I got it!

It is strange how it's suddenly started. I take it you've checked/ cleaned the points on the lens and body?

I was reading a thread on here about excellent customer care from Canon, I'll post a link for when I find it.

It might as well be glued to my 7D as its very rarely off it! Yeah checked and cleaned the contacts- they were spotless anyway.

It's running again at the moment. Smooth as butter here.
 
Hi everyone. So I've had my 7D for 18 months now and only just getting to grips with custom functions and little bits. One thing that was infuriating me was flash sync speed, well I've just discovered how to use high sync speed with a flash gun attached:bonk: But does anyone know if it's possible to set high sync speeds when you use wireless OCF?
