Help me decide, Canon EF 100mm f/2.0 USM Lens or 85mm f/1.8
Both Great Portraits lenses, both razor sharp..... :help:

Just to add, I already have the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II in my kit bag.

if the difference in focal length isn't relevant then the 100 f2 seems to be sharper

(according to: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/...meraComp=453&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0)

i've read several reviews and there isn't much between them. i have a 85mm lens (on a full frame body mind) and it's a very nice length for portraits, either the 85 or 100 on a crop will be quite long though spot on for outdoors.

you might find the reviews for each lens on the digital picture to be of help:

the 85 1.8 does suffer from purple fringing - this isn't something i've seen mentioned about the 100 f2.

also, if you are edging towards the 85mm then take a look at the Sigma 85 1.4 if you want something a bit better than the Canon. I have the Sigma 85 1.4 and it's a truly excellent lens. I can post some sample photos/100% crops if you would like.

I will be using this lens on my 40d, so the 100mm is actually 160mm which im happy with.

Thanks Mark,

TBH I'm edging towards the faster focus 100mm.

Just hope i get it right this time

Have seen a mint 100mm for sale, guys asking £225 delivered, is that a fair asking price?

Have the 85/1.8 on a 7D it's is amazing. Super sharp, super fast. Love it.
