New? Absolutely.

The lens only would be £1100+ if you bought it new, and the body only would be £700+. So you could buy the package and sell the items separately for £1200+, maybe more.

Note that the 70-300 DO is a strange lens. It's expensive because the DO technology makes it very small and light. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and if you don't know anything about the lens then it's probably not for you. But you could sell it for £700+ as a "mint condition" used lens with 11¾ months warranty remaining, so that means you've got yourself a 60D for less than £300, perhaps much less.

Depends who the seller is?

As Stewart said, the 70-300mm DO an interesting lens, basically its a compact light weight 70-300mm lens ideal as a travel lens, but has some flaws and is seriously over priced.

Yea the first reply is over priced! The lens is worth around 400ish

Down to price I think if it's all new it's a steal but I'm thinking it's most likely not... But I think for me I think it's just over priced maybe 900 second hand.

Did you read the all important letters 'DO' after 70-300?

It makes a considerable difference.

Hmm it's a tough one as I wonder why if he bought the lens in December why sell it the month after?

I might be out abit with the lens as I missed the DO could stretch to 500 but but still I think the first post was reading the L series

I think if he can produce a proof of purchase go for it. I would maybe see if you can meet in a public place to view it also.

Na camera was brought in december as a back up to his 7d might just keep my 400d and sigma 70-200 as i would have to sale these to fund

'Hole' and 'Digging' spring to mind-:D

I'm willing to bet that Stewart, whose business is lenses as you can see, is not confusing a DO lens with an L lens given that Canon only make 2 DO lenses and neither have L designation.
Given that he also provided a link and Mark gave you the benefit of the doubt, I think it's slightly disrespectful and not helpful to continue to assert your view on the price of this lens when it's obvious you don't know what a DO lens is.

I thought about getting the DO but I ended up getting the "normal" 70-300mm.

As far as I remember what I read at the time was that the DO is no stellar performer optically and that it's big selling point is its compact size. If a relatively compact lens is important or if it's a bit of a bargain I suppose it's well worth a look.

70-300 DO is neither that small nor light. It's short when zoomed back to 100mm, but gets very much longer at 300mm. It's also fat and about 100g heavier than the cooking 70-300 IS - which better performing and much cheaper. The DO has bad zoom-creep that annoyed me a lot, and they tend not to hold value well (mine didn't LOL).

Cheers Dr_O!

Whether or not the 70-300 DO is "worth" £1100 new is a debatable question, but that is what it costs.

There are currently 6 of these available on eBay used and they're priced at £600-£700 'Buy It Now'. Whether or not anyone will is another matter. There are three which have sold on eBay recently and they've been at £400-£500. That seems to bear out Richard's comment that they don't hold their value very well.
