Pretty much the same could be said for all other companies. If they cease trading, you are on your own.

Sorry I can't remember having a problem with anyone regards an "appropriate timely response" except a lady buyer who was desperate and couldn't do without a camera for a day but Canon resolved her problem quickly. Anyone who buys a camera and has a problem I am happy to honour any warranty for 1 year regardless. I have never let anyone down but yes I do admit I sometimes have been slow in replying to e-mails. Thats all taken care of now as a family member will be answering any e-mails or messages when I am on vacation next! It's been a problem every time I have had a week or two off previously. I do not plan to cease trading for a long time and will honour anything I sell for 1 year regardless. Stop worrying and enjoy your photography. I appreciate all TP members business and will not let you down. Regards Ian.

Thanks for the clarification Ian. What is your current price for the 7D?
 
The videos shot off this thing are seriously pushing me towards it. I know some see it as a gimick, but the quality is so good. Some live examples of music photography (one of my main areas) and I have to say they look stunning)

This is now looking to be a worthwhile upgrade to my 40D. The iso looks great at higher numbers, and the autofocus would be great for my sports photography.

Around a grand is where I am wanting to spend. Might wait til after xmas and see where it settles to before I take the plunge.
 
RRP here is £1699 vs $1699 (£1030) in the US. Add UK VAT @15% to the US price and you get £1185. This is why I will not be buying a 7D here.
 
Got mine coming in from the states a friend has a couple of stores out there im getting mine at cost then only have to pay import duty. Then i will just be waiting for 1d mk 4 in new year

Just checked Canon website if you have a international warranty with your camera and sales receipt the limited international warranty is carried out in the following countries USA, UNITED KINGDOM, CANADA, AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND and a friend has just had a lens purchased in the USA repaired here under warranty please note Japanese imports are not listed with international warranty that i could see hope this helps to clarify matters

The lens that came with the 50D I bought from Digital Rev malfunctioned back in May and Canon UK repaired it under warranty no problem. They wanted proof of purchase which of course was the DigitalRev invoice so they would have known it was an import.

Not surprising though really, lenses have an international warranty regardless of the country of origin, whereas camera bodies don't.

My thoughts too but to import a USA camera yourself you would also need to add import duty as well as VAT!

That's the only thing I'd be slightly jealous of when compared to my 1 series MkII. It certainly looks like a decent camera but I can't see me off loading either of my 1's for it.

Not going to happen CT :nono: Might have missed it but I can't see anything about weather sealing for this which for my purposes puts it behind the likes of Nikon's D700 and arguably even the D300.

I'm just speculating but given that they've changed the algorithm's for the autofocus it wouldn't surprise me at all to see a firmware update at some stage for the MkIII. I'll wait for the MkIV to come out and pick up a high milage MkIII with a view to getting it serviced and replacing the shutter at the same time. Don't really care what the camera looks like as long as it works :)

According to the press release, it has weather sealing equivalent to the 'legendary' EOS 1N.

LOL. The 7D is well weather sealed to the standard of the EOS1n which is pretty good.

I can't see a firmare upgrade happening for the 1D3 tbh. This is a completely new AF system with new hardware and electronics behind it. My guess is that they started work on this AF system about 2 years ago when they realised they needed to redesign it following the problems with the 1D3 that many users reported. I suspect the 7D is a test bed for the system as much as anything else. It's certain to find it's way into 1 Series bodies in due course though, that's for sure.

I'm with you on not caring what the camera looks like - just the pics. :thumbs:

You're right, I did miss that. I skimmed over the "impressive design" bit. :) Strange they choose to compare it against afairly old 35mm though :thinking:

That probably would make it more attractive though :)
 
Kerso has quoted me an estimated price of £1300 for the 7D body with delivery in October. It comes with one year US warranty but, since Kerso provides a UK invoice, this is honoured by Canon UK.

The 1n was used and abused by counltless pros though, and in all weathers, so it will be a high level of sealing.

You could well be right :) I'm just hoping that if they have learnt anything from the MkIII "shortcomings" during the development of this they sneak it in during some other upgrade to the firmware.
 
How good is it then? Will it stand rain or is it more for moist air and dust?
 
I'd say it will stand exposure to quite heavy rain. FWIW I've had my 50D well soaked a few times and it's never faltered. :shrug:
 
people really need to think about things more, worrying about a bit of drizzle/dust - how good is the weather sealing on the 30D? as i've had mine covered in gravel dust every minute for all days at rallies, covered in mud, down the beach with sand, soaked literally rain dripping off it, covered in snow from snowball fights and it's never put a foot wrong.

You'll have to add on sales tax in the US unless you ship out od state, and legally vat but no duty on cameras when you return.

NY Sales Tax is 8.25%. Add that to the $1699 launch price and convert to pund notes and you get £1120.

Lucky my wife was born in LA and holds a US passport then:D. Anyway, I think Passport Control they have bigger issues to worry about. Also, so long as it is used within the USA beforehand I believe new sales import duty and VAT will not apply.

Do you think certain well respected sellers on here pay full import duty and VAT?
