Anyone using 3rd party with no issues ?
On my 40d I used 7day shop but they took an age to charge, just wondering if their are better ones out there or just bite the bullet and get Canon

Seem to remember reading on here of people struggling with 3rd party batteries on the new bodies with the latest firmware - do a search on batteries and charging (can't link the thread at the moment via phone)

Personally, I think is bite the bullet and buy a Canon one...

I'd go Canon as well... LP-E6 I think on the 70? is around £50 for a genuine one from A mazon - but make sure you get the 'Sold by a mazon' one - not the market place one.. that's very important!!

The only down size with used though is that you might not know the history... Mine are now 2 years old, have had heavy use, and are now down to the red bar....

I am using LPE6 equivalents from seven day shop. Got 4 of them for about £20.00. The LPE6 shipped with my 7d does not hold charge. After just a few months it's well and truly knackered. The seven day shops ones? Can't fault them.

But not suitable for the newer generation of cameras from Canon as they've updated firmware which rejects them.....

:D I have read a few reports about latest firmware not recognising Canon batteries too. But not to worry, I guess I am just pleased I don't have to throw money away on another LPE6 bearing in mind the one I have is dead after only a few months.

I had this problem with my 5D 3 when I installed the latest firmware. I am told by my local Canon dealer that Hahnel batteries work fine. I have just looked on the WEX website where a Canon battery costs £65 but you can get two Hahnel batteries for £53!

I have a 50D and purchased 2 spare batteries from a local wholesale outlet. They are Duracell Li-on rechargable, same spec as Canon original. Have served me well with reasonable recharge times. Only problem, one came with safety cover, one without so kept in a plastic bag.

That was a Nikon issue, there have been no reports of this happening with Canon batteries. The early copies didn't have the ability to interact fully with the cameras battery management, but later ones work just fine.

If it's just a few months old - should be under warranty? Have you attempted to return it?

No Chris. To be honest, I had ordered the 4 non Canon batteries and was not bothered too much by it. I was going to get the alternatives anyway and figured they will last me years anyway. So decided I am not too bothered about the Canon battery. I can be a bit too relaxed about these things mind you.

My 5 year old 40d was powered by non canon batteries. The canon battery gave up life long before the 3rd party batteries which are still going strong. So I just get used to the fact that in my experience I have found third party batteries to be better quality.

When I got a Canon 6D I brought two counterfeit batteries as well, and they were a big fail because the camera knew they were fake. So I did some research and found these babies. I now have two of them spare and they work just like a genuine :)

As the listing states, it has the necessary 'Infochip', which is what the other fakes normally don't have.
The error the new firmware camera's give is something like they are not compatible, so they won't give you a battery reading but will still provide energy. The ones in the link work just as normal and provide all the information you need. They do come from a seller in Germany but they arrived real quick.
Of course it's down to you to take the risk in not buying genuine batteries.

Thank you all for your input and links, will give it some thought before I buy

Chris what is the difference?

Think Chris is thinking about the fake's out their - hence why suggesting buying from Amazon themselves...

I have a 70D and have 2 Hanhel batteries in the grip. Got these from Amazon @£27 each.
They charge in the Canon charger are seen by the camera and work fine. I would recommend these as they are half the price of the Canon rip off ones.

After updating the firmware of my 5D3 and then getting a 70D as well I decided to get a bunch of genuine batteries so I looked around and found a dealer who let me have 6 in one lot for £35 each. I know it was a fair amount to lay out all at once but it was much cheaper than getting them at £50 separately. I know there are some of the newer 3rd party batteries that do now work with the 70D without any problems but at the time I just had to bite the bullet. I've now got 8 Canon batteries altogether, used in pairs in grips for my 70D and 5D3, but by the time I need any replacements I'll be looking into the 3rd party ones again.

I'm using third party batteries in my grip with my 70D without any problems. They charge quite quickly and last well. (although I'm not sure if the charger lights flash the same) They've never given any problems. I paid £16 a pair but I see they're now cheaper at £14 a pair. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EJF14YS
