Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Where's the cheapest (and reputable) place to buy now that Panamoz have whacked their prices up?

Well Panamoz still have body only listed at £1825 shipped. Don't know if that is something that was missed when the y updated the other pricing.

I've just checked body only is over £2k at the moment.

Hi guys,

Does anyone own a:

Canon 600EX RT?

How well does this work with the MK3?

I'm looking to take the plunge in May and get a MK 3. But looking at using the 600 with my 400D also.

and want to use the 600 off camera too

I have, and i also have the ST-E3-RT transmitter to match, works fine with the 5d3 (i think it was designed to work with the 5d3) really powerful and a quick recycle time with decent batteries in

Plus +1

Thanks guys,

Think ill have to save for the ST-E3-RT transmitter as spending £400 on the flash. Ill look at Eneloop batteries.

Nice purchase. I almost got the same last month because i stupidly thought i could do away with my triggers but of course i cant, so i kept my 580EXII.....for now.
Actually im really interested in getting the 270EXII as id like to get in to using fill light this summer but dont fancy carrying my 580 around.
Fill light, and flash in general is an area im really not used to. I can happily bounce flash indoors but other than that my skills are very lacking, and with my daughters wedding coming up in May i feel flash is the main area i need to concentrate on

By the way, my (second) Tamron 24-70 has gone back to Amazon and my Canon 24-70 f/2.8 II is due here tomorrow from DigitalRev. I cant wait, although with my run of bad luck with lenses recently im a bit apprehensive as well.

My 24-70 f/2.8L II just arrived.
Blimey, its really nice. Not had chance to use it outside of the office yet but the look and feel of it is much nicer than my Tamron (IMO)
Very happy. I thought i would have buyers remorse after over spending so much but no, just a shame i didn't pick one up in the first place from Panamoz when they were cheaper.

Thats exactly what i did, bought the 600, used that on camera for fill and bouncing, then bought the ST-E3-RT and now starting to use it off camera

I use these Yongnuo triggers with my 580EXII, both with my 5DMKIII and 60D. Even though the 60D has a wireless trigger it still doesn't work as well as these triggers.

Only cost about £50-£60 for a pair.

The advantage with the canon one though is you can adjust the power output of each individual flash from the camera, you dont need to keep going back to the flash to adjust power output

Nice one. My 24-70 arrived via the same route this morning, as did my Canon S110 on Monday, both from DR.
Bloody hell, ive spent a bit much this week :cuckoo:

I shot this last night at ISO 2000... done a little skin smoothing but no NR other than what was a by-product of that.

Can't believe how epically good the body is at this ISO... my 7D would have melted trying to produce anything other than 'ok' at this ISO!

Lovely shot, very clean. Every now and then i get my 60D out and am amazed at the difference in ISO qualities between that and my 5DMKIII.

I was out testing my new 24-70 last night and took this at ISO 12800 :-)

Wow there's no noise at all in that shot!

It's weird being able to go so high... with the shot of the girl I was in my mind still nervous about the ISO 2000 because I've not done a real life shoot at that high an ISO before, but this camera is just an absolute beast!

Yeah, im really pleased with that shot. Its also a crop so not even full frame. It does have noise but for posting on line and printing at smaller sizes the upper ISO settings are very usable.
In the past I'd happily use ISO1600 on my 60D, even ISO3200 if i really have to, but with my 5D ISO3200 is not an issue and 6400 is still pretty clean (again, only if i have to)

Wow Mark, thats a fantastic shot. I love the deep rich colours.

One thing i hate about the 5DMKIII is the fixed LCD. I used the flip out one on my 60D all the time for tripod shots. As im over 6ft tall it came in handy.
I understand why they did it though.

The vast majority of my shots are off the tripod down at low level, I too am 6'3, so spend a lot of time sat on the floor or crouching down, I bought a set of tradesman's knee protectors, they're ideal, save your knees from rocks and also from wet sand, mud etc.

This is the main thing that puts me off upgrading from the 60D. Can anyone recommend an external screen? I've found this but it seems to be mains powered.

I really wouldn't let that one thing put you off. The 5DMKIII is light years ahead of the 60D :-)

That looks like a nice little gadget though. Might take a gamble on one next month and see now it works.
I must admit ive hardly used my 5D on a tripod since i got it, ive gone almost 100% hand held, although thats partly laziness. I do need to get back in to using the tripod more.

Dave, can you post a 100% crop of that shot? I'm a little unhappy with my 5D3 at 12,800 ISO and want to compare noise.

I can let you have the raw file if you like. I can put it in drop box and PM you the link.
This shot was a bit over exposed, I'd just been shooting in a dark street and forgot to change or check the settings. That would explain why it's cleaner than if I had exposed it properly.
All my shots go through Lightroom 4 and I do apply NR in that.

Let me know if you do want it.

Nah, I've never got on with back button AF. I find its not needed most of the time and clumsy to use. I've tried on on numerous occasions over the past few years but always go back to the standard settings.
For me just holding down the DOF button for AI servo when I need it is much easier. I don't use AI Servo much so its not a big deal.
Thanks anyway. I don't want to debate this, it's a personal thing, i know lots of people like doing it this way but I know what works for me.

Mind me asking where in the settings you've set this up Dave?
